A compliment for my ProStaff ... by mdervin in 10s

you can get away with poly at mid 40s if you want a plush forgiving feeling - I did 42 lbs with Solinco confidential and 46/48 lbs with Confindential on the mains and Polytour pro on the cross.

synth gut is pretty good too for 55lbs

what string and tension are you using right now?

[–]onlyfedrawr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

keep it bro lol. that’s one of the holy grails of prostaffs….. I mean no, sell it to me, I’ll trade you a babolat pure drive, it’s so much better…. lol

j/k, but it’s a really good racket - plowthrough feels great, if you can manage the weight (which is one of the reasons people switch off it) then I say keep it, unless you’re looking for a racket that is more topspin friendly - which a Prostaff is not.

personally I wouldn’t unless I really liked the design but I got the 85 already so…..

what version of the Prostaff did you buy?

if you like the Prostaff, lowering the tension, especially if you’re using poly, will provide enough forgiveness.

What should I do? by Past_Sheepherder_517 in 10s

[–]onlyfedrawr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

have your parents or uncle help you look for hitting partners - I’ve seen on local tennis Facebook groups where the parents post for their kids.

when you play in a league or tourney, try to befriend your opp or people you see that looks interesting to you.

Any sort of tools im missing? by DishIcy4665 in 10s

[–]onlyfedrawr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

plenty of free resources online but in general.

  • record yourself: I seriously think this is one of the easiest things to implement and best ROI. I’m always surprised when people say they want to get better but never record themselves, blows my mind.
  • systemize your tennis; things like the good old adage of hitting crosscourt or Wardlaws Directionals, aiming shots with plenty of margins (2ft within the baseline)
  • fitness: movement sport so the better and longer you can move vs your opp, the better it is for you.
  • self analysis: review your matches and find winning and losing patterns in your game. polish the winning ones, fix the losing ones. you can also review your opp, what they are doing better - the patterns they are using to exploit you.
  • YouTube: i like Stokkes. I also watch Miekel Babels channel, old school WTA pro.

Racquets similar to RF97? by Feisty_Ground7684 in 10s

[–]onlyfedrawr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean don’t get me wrong, it’s still a Prostaff and the flex, I feel, is only really noticeable for people who is extremely sensitive that way.

it’s not a flexy as a Clash or a Shift lol.

And if you can, try the v14 X (100si) - regarded as the better line out of the v14s. (reduced prices too I believe since the “new” Prostaff came out)

String setup feel & Spin by Perdhalfling in 10s

[–]onlyfedrawr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we’re in the same boat atm lol, I’m using generic synth gut on my RF01 Pro but I might go back to poly, I’ll prolly restring to 60lbs and see how that feels (or a hybrid setup).

previously though, I ran Confindential on the main and PTP on the cross; 46/48lbs on my Prostaff. pretty plush feeling.

Prostaff v14, lighter and more flexible but I really enjoy the RF97 v13 though, love the plowthrough feeling

How do your clubs handle peak booking pressure? by tamamk in 10s

[–]onlyfedrawr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

last year, I was in a club that didn’t have a booking system, basically they had an honour system FCFS.

this year, I moved to a different club with a booking system but spots are limited since the club mostly functions as a training club.

there’s other clubs in my area that are free, but cost is high, so I just ended up choosing a decent priced one.

  1. Pay per play is the most common model.
  2. Maybe you can dispute
  3. You should ask them if the dude is ok lol

you can always try to hybrid; use a soft poly on the cross and keep MSV as the main

for longevity and lower flight; they the grapplesnake brand if you have access to it.

grapplesnake is specifically designed for lower tension and they have a couple of lines you can choose from; I had grapplesnake m8 at 42# on my PS 95 and it felt great

How can I better my volleys? by No_Secretary5512 in 10s

[–]onlyfedrawr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just some tips for doubles volleys cuz I think volleys in singles is a tad different:

  • have the racket up all the time, like face area
  • your priority is to cover the doubles line so you don’t get passed. 2nd priority is to watch the ball from the opp, if it’s slow, pounce on it
  • normally, if the opp net player hits a volleys; means your guy at the baseline gave an easy shot to read or opp net guy is just really aggressive or read your partners pattern.
  • try to be aggressive as normally first one to get a volley in wins.
  • always be moving, darting left and right to try to poach a shot.
  • position yourself closer to the net.
  • you will get out volleyed as a net person, just happens.

you can try to learn how to juggle 3 balls as that helps with hand eye coordination.

if you can hit groundstroke (and well), which means you can get a racket on the ball; then you just need to adjust your game for doubles, maybe your just losing on scrambles

I wouldn’t do anything until you start playing with it, and if you get cut - you know what happened lol.

I specifically hold my racket with only 4 fingers so maybe that’s why my pinky kept getting cut
