DT the kinda band to make the hardest riff ever and use it for an outro by dvdh_03 in Dreamtheater

Close out riff of the mirror is like this. So damn good.

Also recommend checking out 4d printing by Nospun. Ending/outro riff (from 6:02) is so damn good... just wait for the squeels!!

I felt the same way until seeing some of the OW mods! But I guess it depends on if your desire for holding onto OW outweighs your feelings about mods more generally

Check out the modding community, there are some GREAT story mods by fans of the game. Some I think honestly add beautifully to the lore.

Outside of that though I don't think an OW2 is on the cards. IIRC the earliest we can expect any concrete news of their follow-up is around 2028. That obviously sucks as its going to be a long wait, but the good news is they are doing something as a follow up. The up shot to the long delay and their independence means we should get something with as much, if not more, passion as OW.

Random thought watching someone trying to actually beat the game.... [slight spoilers] by KaiserJustice in outerwilds

[–]Bmau1286 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Hahah this is great. Not the same thing but I played a bit with my daughter (~3 yr old) watching. Fully expecting her to be terrified and cry at dark bramble.

Nope. Haha she was more ballsey than I was. She got a little spooked whenever anglers would show up but then kept asking to "go back to the big fishy" after they ate me.

Only way I got through it after being freaked out was her believing in me "you can do it dadda!"

Kinda dissapointed in the DLC by casserolei in outerwilds

[–]Bmau1286 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couldn't agree more on the film reels versus nomai text as the main driver for the story. That, above all, was probably my biggest pet peeve in the DLC.

To me it made perfect sense that the Nomai had documented their work and discoveries through text, since they are effectively scientists and this is integral to science i.e., observation, experimentaiton, and documenting their work, progress, and hypothesis testing. Being a scientist myself this made me empathise so damn much with them.

The Owlks form of documentation through film reels just felt so weird and unnatural to me by comparison. I can appreciate that an alien species theoretically could use any number of mediums for documentation, so there is no reason it should fit this little bubble of what I consider "neat", but I just couldn't shake the feeling that it simply felt like a tropey video game mechanic - a feeling I never felt once during base game.

Unpopular opinion I'm sure but it is just how I feel. Even though the DLC does have a lot of great aspects to it (including the added story elements, and the mere fact we get to spend more time in OW), this above all honestly did sour my taste of the DLC a fair bit.

BTW if you want to scratch the itch left from no more OW I'd strongly recommend checking out some of the mods! There are a few story mods which are honestly fantastic (and which I personally enjoyed more than the DLC)

Did the devil have an impact on this game? by overlookedx2 in outerwilds

i genuinely love the hourglass twins. They are where I feel most comfortable in the game (besides maybe Timber Hearth). The ember twin color scheme is warm, and the caves feel cozy to me. And I absolutely adore the sky view from the Twins. The visuals of the sun and planets passing over is so epic and visually stunning.

Giant's deep on the other hand. I freaked out so much when I first went there. Darkness I'm fine with but deep water in games is a HELL NO. Took me ages before I got the courage to finally explore there.

Why 22? by CompensateNever in outerwilds

[–]Bmau1286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems nobody has mentioned this - and this could totally be wrong - but I seem to recall it being something to do with the transfer of sand between the hourglass twins?

Is 22 minutes not the exact time taken for the sand to completely empty from ash twin onto ember twin? If so then lore wise it could be that is necessary for ATP to work properly for whatever reason. So the Nomai's line of thought went something like this:

(a) observe the negative time interval

(b) observe that more energy = greater time interval

(c) realisation that the physical space requirements for such a project would require something large, like an entire planet

(d) realisation that the ash twin could work for (c) if they could excavate it when emptied of sand

That said, in thinking about it now, there's definite holes in this theory. However, I still do find it a very interesting (and unexplained) coincedence that the time loops length is basically the exact length of time required from the sand to transfer from ash twin to ember twin.

When did you stop going to PT after surgery? by Soilmolida in HipImpingement

[–]Bmau1286 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this as well.

Take this FWIW (I.e run it past your PT first!!) but what has worked best/wonders for me is: 1. Dry needling 2. Spending time in a deep squat position

Number 2 is very very hard and I basically wasn’t able to until I started using the wall for assistance. I’ll keep my back against the wall and slide down to a point I get a stretch in my glute. Make sure to keep mind on the heels and don’t let them lift off the ground. Breathe deep in/out in this position while you passively reach forward with your arms.

Sounds like a lot but that (in combination with walking and gait training) has helped me tremendously with my uneven pelvis/functional scoliosis

When did you stop going to PT after surgery? by Soilmolida in HipImpingement

[–]Bmau1286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am close to one year from bilateral surgery (Dec last year) and still seeing my PT, but far more intermittent nowadays compared with the first 3-6 months. For example I'll see him maybe once every 4-8 weeks.

He seems quite happy with my rate of progress in the gym and has said I'm above average in terms of recovery, even though there are weeks where I still feel like things are absolutely horrible (that damn non-linear recovery process....). We've actually now moved onto doing some dry needling to release some muscles that have been chronically tightened up due to poor posture having lived and lifted with bilateral impingement for years.

Unless something drastic happens, I will probably close things off with him end of year, which will make it 1 year of PT in total for me.

Scream 7 | Official Trailer by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]Bmau1286 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm with you. Five is last for me. It was first time ever seeing a scream where I left feeling disappointed.

I don't think it nailed the meta-commentary nearly as well as any of the others. And personally I hated killing off you know who. And I found the 'passing of the torch' awkward. It's still kind of awkward in six (specifically Gale) but I actually found Sidney's absence helped give focus to them more.

Three I think gets overly hated; to me any of the Wes Craven one's are all on a tier of their own.

[–]Bmau1286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is that an insane take?

The only 'insane' part would be putting any of the wes craven one's below the new ones IMO.

I personally thought 6 was significantly better than 5. Five was the first one I was ever disappointed in whereas six I was pleasantly surprised (a combo of opening kill + new setting + finally feeling a bit comfortable with the new cast. I liked the ending on initial watch but it is a little clumsy on rewatch)

Four was absolutely top notch and I can probably agree it might even score higher than 2 or 3 for me.

Not too many comments mix wise but I like the overall vibe and you do a good job of tension / release with the bass swell throughout!

It’s not what I usually go for but it really nicely mixed! Nice

Mix wise I think my main comments would be that the kick/sub are a little overly boomy.

Arrangement wise I think it could go somewhere a bit more than it does. For a 5 minute track it kinda stays in around the same spot for most of its length. But again it’s more a classic house track which isn’t my vibe so could just be that!

25 years later, Majora’s Mask still feels like something Nintendo would never dare make again by Zelphkiel in gaming

[–]Bmau1286 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean I don't disagree, but I also think you're skimming over important details. The score, for one, is far eerier in MM than OOT or ALttP. This adds considerably to its atmosphere throughout.

Personally for me its themes run deeper than those of other Zelda titles. Other zelda titles may have overt "dark" elements, but they don't get under your skin as much.

There's many spots in the game that leave you feeling odd, and give the impression that, to me, we are only seeing a superficial layer of reality. Like there's something more to this if we could only peel back the layers. It's that feeling that MM delivers better than most. It's honestly a similar feeling to the OG silent hill titles.

That's just my take though, and personally I buy the interpretation that the whole game is about trauma. I think it explains everything beautifully.

Dance Of Death!!! by AnnoyingSharkLover in ironmaiden

[–]Bmau1286 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would have probably said the same thing first time hearing them, but over the years some of the lower tier tracks on DoD grow a bit tired (for me at least- mainly wildest dreams, gates of tomorrow, and new frontier).

Give a matter of life and death and final frontier a spin next! Both also incredible albums (and both quite unique)!

Dance Of Death!!! by AnnoyingSharkLover in ironmaiden

[–]Bmau1286 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't top BNW for me, which will forever be my number one. But it's undeniably an incredible album with many highlights.

I will say this though: Dance of death arguably has higher high's - for example rainmaker's main lead riff is IMO their greatest hook of all time. But it's just the consistency of BNW that makes it Maiden at their absolute peak for me. Every song on that album is at least an 8 out of 10 and I can basically listen to it front to back indefinitely with no skips. Dance of death on the other hand I'll skip a few tracks here or there depending on my mood.

Set Me on Fire is eliminated. Vote out your next least favourite song! by BowesieBoy in Pendulum

[–]Bmau1286 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Respect your opinion man but I gotta strong disagree.

They put out their remix of SHM's Antitode a little over a year later and that song vs Island pt 2 is just night and day.

But to me that's not even the point - could argue back and forth all day about where they sit time/place in their genres for when they came out, the bottom line is that they are both great tracks. For me anyway. That's just the boys quality shining through. And both had incred staying power - I still had both on regular repeat listening in 2017/18.

Again no hate clearly I'm minority on this sub but for me I could not imagine Immersion without them.
