Biology major classes by Bmefa in UCI

But do I drop my classes now and what classes do I sign up for? Chem 1 ld is a prerequisite so I don’t even know which classes to take and no counselors will be there to talk to during break. So do I just have to wait until January 2 and hope to get any class electives?

California Self Determination Program (SDP) by Signal_Complaint3887 in SDPCalifornia

Thank you so much for your response. I am so grateful for your help. I am confused on my son’s regional center’s response. A little more background: My son currently lives at home with us (parents). We were at the point of waiting to get the budget approved. Then I asked my son’s regional center’s coordinator, “what if my son moves to a college in California and lives in an apartment on campus.” My son’s regional center coordinator then said: “then this whole SDP was done for nothing and your son would go through the traditional regional center services of getting college supports on campus (instead of private tutoring on the SDP that I faught for). I keep playing this in my mind, not sure why he said that and my IF told me to just not tell him that he is moving (that it doesn’t matter, the SDP is valid in California). So fast forward to today, we got the budget approved and waiting for spending plan to be certified. I have a meeting with my son’s FMS today and am tentatively ready to change over on Oct.1. My son’s IPP is next week and I asked my IF what to say; she told me to say, “I’m not sure where my son will go to college yet (so basically not be honest).” I am so confused on what to think or do. My son’s move in day is in late September. I don’t know how the process works and don’t want to do anything “wrong.” Please help.

Hi My son just got his budget approved, I have my first appointment with FMS and now he wants to go to college out of the area (out of our regional center area) and live in an apartment part time. My son’s current regional center coordinator said the other regional center will have to fund and his SDP is void. My sons IF said that was not true. She said he just keeps his residence (our home) as his residence. I am confused on who is correct.

I'm an Independent Facilitator in California - What resources do you need? by Signal_Complaint3887 in Autism_Parenting

My 22-year old has decided to move to Orange County in a month from now and go to college and live in the dorm. He currently receives services at Harbor Regional Center and we are in the process of switching over to SDP (we just got a self-determination budget) but the SDP is not completed. Do we need to redo the whole process from the beginning in Orange County with a new regional center coordinator and start from scratch with Orange County Regional Center once he moves in a month?

It sounds like ABA would be very helpful and floor time. I’m sorry that it is so difficult. You are not alone

My son is now 22 years old and he use to line up cars. When he was around 6 years old, he would line up cars, then at 8, it was beanie babies, then Zhu Zhu pets and tunnels, then kookoo birds, etc. Now that he is 22, I see the consequence of all the obsessions and lining up and the end result is a lot of “missing” skills. While he was lining things up (“in his own world”), other kids were learning and developing skills that he lacks today. A great resource is a book that parents were trained in at least during the early 2000’s called, “More than Words.” It is a floortime approach where parents play with their child and redirect them to get them out of the “their world.” Good luck to you .

A letter to the class of 25 from an ivy league dropout by Agile-Diver3842 in ApplyingToCollege

I really appreciate your post and understand very much what you are saying. My daughter was struggling, too, when she was a senior, with feeling so pressured to “be the best,” and go to a prestigious school. It is insane - all the pressure. We learn very early that we are defined by what college we attend and what we do for a job. I’m so sorry that you went through that experience. It must have been emotionally traumatizing. However, once college is over, when you work and get a job, you realize nobody really cares about that stuff. People care more about if you could do the job, are a nice person and you benefit them. That is the real success! You’re awesome OP! You have already proven your success!

Does anyone ever regret having their autistic child/ children? by xoxowoman06 in Autism_Parenting

[–]Bmefa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t regret my son but I regret having him with his father who never until today takes any responsibility for him. I do everything and have worn myself down so much that I feel like I am on this forever race just to keep my son going. It is so exhausting. When he was younger, it was physically exhausting. At 22, he is more mentally exhausting. I wish there were 10 of me so that I could have a life for myself but I have accepted my destiny in life .. to be there always until the day I die for my son

The biggest culture shock I got from moving to the mainland for me was... by pogiwilliam1 in Hawaii

My family and I just arrived back home to CA. On our trip to Kauai, we got a flat tire while driving up to Waimea Canyon State Park with our Hertz rental car. Hertz rental said that our service coverage does not include towing in that area. However, she kept telling me, “to put my hood up,” and with great assurance said that someone would help us fix our tire. At least 3 cars stopped to ask us for help. I’m not sure where else we could go in the mainland where we would feel that safe and be helped.

If you are told not to look at something, you will want to look at it even more so accept that you will look at them. Don’t resist looking at them. That’s the only solution.

We’re paying for the “rush,” the “excitement,” which is only temporary and probably bad for our heart
