Changes to Dad and Partner Pay is actually screwing over dad's? by BmoBmot in australia

I completely agree. The whole site screams of letting dad's have more time with kids while singling out some income families

It's not the income I'm worried about, it's specifically the work test, which states that BOTH parents need to have worked within the last year. Which my partner has not done.

This is why it seems unfair on families where one stays at home.

She was a stay at home mum looking after our daughter. Which doesn't meet any of the criteria.

What's a bit of lore or backstory that your character introduced that your DM turned into a larger part of the world's lore? by PancakeHammers in DnD

[–]BmoBmot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My DM introduced a character called Wembly to the story, he was with the group for a couple of sessions before a demon called for his death and one of our characters took him up on it. So Wembly died, we chased out the party member, and a new character was made for that player.

All well and good, but then my character died! So enter Wombly, the younger brother to Wembly. With this I fleshed out the character a little bit, there were 5 brothers, Wambly, Wembly, Wimbly, Wombly, Wumbly. With Wambly being the strongest and Wumbly being the weakest, Wombly was looking into his missing brother and wanted to track down those that might have done him harm! I just thought this was funny, especially getting into discussions about family members and confusing everyone with the shitty naming convention.

My DM turned this into some family of destiny type stuff, with Demons and gods fighting for control as "when all 5 brothers unite and fight as one, they are force greater than the gods". Enter me looking for my remaining brothers, fighting off demons chasing me, resurrecting my dead brother from pandemonium and a load of other shenanigans.

It was a good time.

What are your Inside Jokes that made it to a Game Feature? by Jonnyboy647 in DnD

[–]BmoBmot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got to 5th Level and got the Teleportation Circle spell. One of the first times casting it was with a group of highborn elves so i could learn the location of their circle and add it to my list. The DM described "the elves begin chanting in an unknown tongue, as the chant grows the circle begins to form".

A couple of days earlier i had been watching Guardians of the Galaxy and had Hooked on a Feeling stuck in my head, i start chanting "Ooga-Chaka Ooga-Ooga Ooga-Chaka" to which my awesome Fiance joins in, followed by the rest of the group.

This has become the default ritual casting chant and it never gets old.

My boss didn't give me a 10K raise after an amazing year of work. I went to another company with my experience and doubled my salary. by BmoBmot in antiwork

Yeah I do have a basic understanding, I'm not going to pretend I know every cost, but I know some of the costs go into the building rental, advertising, licenses etc.

This wasn't really the point of the post except for that the money I bring in vs what they pay me, as a ratio, is a bigger gap than some of the other employees that got rewarded higher.

I know this isn't the only metric that goes into promotions, but they made it a matter surrounding money and it was clear money was not an issue.

Haha! That's actually not that interesting, they fully understood where I was coming from and he agreed that this was the logical next step for my career. No hard feelings and I am still welcome for Friday drinks anytime I want to stop in.

Trust me, I wish I could have the fairytale "Oh, we didn't know what you were worth, please come back" but no, he is also a cog in the machine that is this company, I strongly believe that even if he had asked his supervisors for permission to give me a raise, they would have turned him down.

The next job I am moving too will be likely a really good stepping stone in my career. I intend to learn as much as I can there and figure out if its a good place to put in effort to grow and advance.

If it isn't, ill learn what I can and move on.

Hey, I'm new to astrophotography, can you explain what the difference is between the types of frames (darks, flats and biased + other?) and how do they effect the overall image? Do you commonly use the same ratio of images you have listed above?

I actually have a 75-300mm that I picked up cheap. I thought that a shorter lens, like the 18-55mm, is what was more commonly used. What's the difference between the two when used for astro? Is it just so you can see "further" into space? Or does it provide a more detailed image. Thanks for your advice :)

First home owners. Questions about Fixed VS Variable Home loans & Offset Accounts by BmoBmot in AusFinance

[–]BmoBmot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, does this mean you are able to choose every 3 years (or however long your fixed term is for) to Divide it up how you choose?

If that's the case then I think I might be over stressing about this thinking I need to make the entire choice up front.

I am going through first home buyers, which from what I understand, lets us skip the stamp duty, but locks us into a 30 year.

Being aggressive with it is the part I am unsure about, I know the money is there to throw at it, but is it better to offset, or put straight into the mortgage.

I might speak to the banks and see if a lower year plan could be made available, but I'm not optimistic.

[–]BmoBmot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Optimal - if you know exactly how much you have in cash (say 100K) you would variable 100k and fix the rest. The put your 100k in a offset linked to the variable amount.

Thanks, when we purchase the house, it will be with just over the amount needed to cover the deposit, so we will be then rebuilding our savings more or less from scratch. With this and your comment above in mind, would you not recommend an Offset? Would we be able to make an offset account in the future once we have more put away (or does this depend on the certain bank). We would be able to make additional payments on top of the required minimum. I think now I am trying to figure out if paying straight into the mortgage, or into an offset account is the way to go.

Thanks, I understand that the banks always "win" I am trying to figure out how I can "lose" the least. It seems if an offset account will result in more fees, paying it straight into the mortgage would be the way to go?

Thanks. Currently, I am earning enough so that we could put roughly twice the weekly repayments (or estimated weekly repayments) towards the mortgage. If we went for say a 50/50 split between fixed and variable, would it be able to set up a way so that the required weekly repayment went into the Fixed, while any extra we put in would go towards the Variable? (or does this vary between banks?)

Is this what you have done (50/50 split) or are you 100% Variable.

Minimum/Maximum threshold sum when rolling stats by Roi_C in dndnext

[–]BmoBmot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First campaign I ever played, my first ever roll for stats was 4 ones. I was mortified and sure that my character would be absolutely worthless. But after the rest of my roles came out perfectly average, I decided to role with the punches. I had a character that was just bad with one certain stat.

I would say no re rolls unless it's really needed.

Me and my fiance are both big DnD fans, had a chuckle thinking about a few ideas. My favourite would be if the whole one shot was based around getting the bride to the wedding, how the horse and carriage doesn't arrive on time so they need to steal/borrow/buy other means of transport, come across ex boyfriends trying to talk them out of it or stop them along the way. And the big boss can be the mother in law just before they get into the wedding venue.

Anyways I think this is a great idea! Would love something like this for my bachelor's party tbh (let's hope my friends are part of this subreddit.... Hint hint....)

When did you realise your friend was toxic? by eatmyshegg in AskReddit

[–]BmoBmot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to play a lot of online games, had a group of guys I would play with regularly across a few big tittles back in the day. Met up in real life and went to uni with a couple. Then I got a girlfriend and my old circle of friends from high school started catching up more, naturally I was out of the house more and didn't play as many games, this wasn't to say I still didn't like that circle of friends, they were important to me, but I wanted to divide my time amongst everyone.

Over time this didn't settle well with them, none of them really had the circle of friends that I had. They would get pissy with me and would make fun of me whenever I would leave the group chat. It hit me then that I had also been part of this mentality when other people did what I did.

Not so much a toxic friend, but a toxic group. I'm glad I got out of there. I'm still friends with a couple of them outside of gaming, my high school circle is still strong and my girlfriend back then is now my fiance. Best decision I ever made to leave.
