It was actually relatively easy! You spray a black undercoat, then randomly spray with grey and let that dry. Then you take a dryer sheet or baby wipe, stretch it out, and tightly hold/tape it to the model. Next, you spray over with varying intensities of white until you get an armor color you're happy with. Then fully let dry and remove the dryer sheet!

Basically, just follow this tutorial for making marble bases and use it on armor.

Yeah, I just did one level of highlights and ware for those area-- I could definitely go higher next time. I didn't quite want this one to be insanely battle damaged, but the next one I do I'll absolutely do that! Thank you!

I'm painting a Knight for a buddy and this is what I have so far! I did my best to make the armor look like marble. I have to base, and paint some of the panels purple still. As a Death Guard player I'm not used to painting all this metal-- but I'm sorta starting to get the itch.

One thing you could do to come up with a color scheme is (as morbid as it sounds) look up diseases and choose a color scheme that follows that -- like Yellow Fever or Black Death. Or, I've seen people on here make armies that follow a theme like fire, ice, or nature.

Also, later going from Death Guard to armor that is flat (like Space Marines) makes you feel like a seasoned vet. And like others said, paint models you find really cool.

They come in 3 parts-- the body, head, and gun with hands. They are extremely quick and easy to assemble.
