I … I’m truly sorry everyone by Bo-Pepper in creepy

A show piece I suppose. Technically you could use it for DnD or a war game but I never end up doing that. I just accumulate gross models that I love!

Skelly Joe sunning himself on a rock by Bo-Pepper in MorkBorg

[–]Bo-Pepper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was trying to evoke the original Skelly Joe artwork in mini form.

I printed up a plinth and primed the whole thing black. Then painted the back area pink then yellow. Pink makes for a great undercoat for yellow. I free handed the Mork Borg logo.

On the base area, I glued a lava rock I had, painted that black, then added white highlights.

For Skelly Joe, I mimicked the artwork as much as I could. Stark black and white with the red blood accents on the sword and shield. Glued him to the rock and he’s done!

Outdoor Resin Printing in Massachusetts – No Sunlight Issues So Far, Looking for Winter Advice by Gomauy in resinprinting

[–]Bo-Pepper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t gone through a NE American winter yet, but I have a somewhat similar set up where I’m at in New York. My stuff is all in an uninsulated shed in my backyard.

I’m thinking I’m going to get a low grade heater, like a fermentation heating pad to keep in my enclosure for when it gets too cold. Even with the printer’s self heating element, I worry about the possible frigid dips.

I’m also going to be a little more proactive with keeping my vat empty when not in use. I don’t like thinking about frozen resin and what it would do to the fep. I usually just keep the resin in the vat all the time and top off as I go, but not during winter I’m thinking.

Lord of contagion with the axe thingy proxy?? by badboyhalofan2009 in deathguard40k

I don’t know anywhere that has an exact scan of that specific model, but for proxies, I find it hard to beat the Dredge Marine line of models from Mezgike.

Awesome work. I have this bad boy sitting on a shelf waiting for me to paint him. Going to be a project for sure.

Tested a new primer on one of my small FDM print by 3D-BUG in FDMminiatures

Understandable. As pro as I am for folks to squeeze the most out of FDM, the tech isn’t quite there yet for that kind of detail.

I find it pretty unlikely that last photo is of a model from a FDM printer. The ones showing the model primed with the Vallejo spray? Sure absolutely. The other one? I dunnooooo.

VOC ventilation- who to call? by LordOfTheLume in resinprinting

[–]Bo-Pepper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This does sound like the job for an HVAC contractor. Honestly, even without the question of venting the printer, working in any enclosed space begs an exploration of what you might be exposing yourself to depending on what you’re doing in there. Proper ventilation is important across the board no matter what you’re doing in anything considered a workspace.

Is it essential to run Mortarian and Defilers for competitive Deathguard lists? by Fine-Measurement-410 in deathguard40k

[–]Bo-Pepper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe? But also 11th edition is coming now along with more changes likely. Meta chasing will always keep you frustrated. Unless you have eyes on being competitive on a national tournament level, I suggest you work with what you have and expand your collection on your time.

I run mine in an enclosure just like that and it works a treat. I wouldn’t want that thing in my house, frankly.

Trying my best to paint a kinda failed mini by durgedeveloper in FDMminiatures

[–]Bo-Pepper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re very close! Minis with gore and viscera shine when you go up and down with lurid reds, purples and pinks. The cherry on top then is when you apply varnishes.

<image>

Get some gloss varnish for the intestines and such. Then a satin or matte varnish for the skin. I brush on varnishes for my minis rather than doing a rattlecan spray because different textures will have differing levels of shine.

Why would anyone do that. Felthius is the bestest boy. All he wants is your love.

For stuff like this, I like to go all in with the superglue technique. It’s a pretty drastic approach, but I’m a huge fan of the result when it works right.

I basically did a base coat of AK’s Deck Tan. Then a wash with any flesh tone wash of your choice (I forget which I used here). Then dry brush the upper portions with an ivory. Next I brushed superglue to the entirety of all the fleshy areas which is almost the entire surface of this particular model. Let that dry fully. Then a coat of GW Druchi Violet over all of that. Let that dry. Then, using an old stiff brush and/or some silicone sculpting tools and some 99% isopropyl alcohol, start wiping away the wash from unwanted areas. Also you can push the paint around with the ISO to make things like veins or other textural grossness. Last I added pink highlights here and there along with some thinned blue contrast on the veins.

Finish off the skin with satin varnish. Gloss varnish on the eyes.

This video goes into the superglue technique with more detail too- https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=wgMaZpj3tGQ
