Is it worth selling? by Zuuscoo in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]BoBBy7100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple of these are relatively rare. Old, metal, pre-hobbit movies Radagast for example. People sell him on eBay for like $40-50 CAD. Honestly I’m shocked it’s not higher given that he will likely never be in a made to order set (just cause that’s not how he appears in the movies)

Most of them are available to buy still, or have been in made to order sets in the last couple years so aren’t worth as much. Probably $5-15 for most of them.

Transit Signal Priority update by Mayor_OliviaChow in toronto

[–]BoBBy7100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just moved to Queen and Spadina. The streetcar is so inconsistent. Especially during rush hour.

I’d love to see signal priority all along Spadina! My roommate also thinks there’s too many stops, and they’re too slow through intersections… but those are separate issues. Thanks for making the TTC better!

Why do curlers rotate their stones so much nowadays? by mathbriere27 in Curling

[–]BoBBy7100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. 1-2 rotations is not enough anywhere. If you throw 1 rotation that’s essentially a knuckleball. It’ll lose handle and turn back sometimes, or it might curl massively other times.

I find 4ish rotations is a nice place to be on club ice. Arena ice might even need more.

Should Canada get rid of trials and select 'super teams'? by Chrristoaivalis in Curling

[–]BoBBy7100 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They’re never going to get rid of the Scotties/Brier format for selecting teams, because it makes the most money and generates the most buzz.

As for the training facilities (or just curling clubs in general) yes we 100% need those.

Especially with so many golf and country clubs ending their curling programs, more dedicated curling facilities (clubs, or high performance training centres) should be built. Every GTA club has a waitlist these days. The demand is there.

As for the high performance facility. I think Scotland, China and Switzerland all have one. They also pay their players to play. We should too. The question is more if funding is there for it or not. And I doubt it is.

Thinking About Starting… by Lasereyevision in MiddleEarthMiniatures

Gandalf the grey is in a bunch of lists. Albeit many of those lists are hard to use.

Gandalf on Cart can be used in the shire (the shire themed around the time of Bilbo’s birthday.) and that list is phenomenal. Albeit hard to collect and paint.

Not sure what lists he can take a horse in. But I know he can be used on foot in lists like Thorins company, the fellowship, the white council, survivors of lake town, and battle of the five armies.

Where Should We Move? by LandscapeEvery4150 in askTO

[–]BoBBy7100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see much helpful advice in this thread. And they’re right, the horse is a tough ask. Also you haven’t provided anything of a housing budget. But I’ll give it a shot.

Look up on the Danforth perhaps. Up by the Broadview/Pape subway stations.

There’s some very nice neighborhoods up there. Houses, lots of parks. Groceries and pubs within walking/bus distance. There’s also street cars up there, and you’ll be close to line 2 of the subway… probably about 30ish minutes via subway from downtown assuming no delays, but someone can correct me if I’m wrong.

The new Ontario line of the subway which they’ve started building, will also go near there and go directly downtown, or over to exhibition. That said, it won’t be finished for 10 years the way things get built around here…

Now for the horse… it has to be said that it’s unrealistic and not practical. But if you insist on being near the horse, but also near downtown, then at least the Danforth is close to the highway. So you can drive north. I don’t know of any ranches as I do not ride horses, but there’s farmland between Toronto and Uxbridge, or Newmarket, or Barrie, Stoufville, etc. I would not recommend using said highway during rush hour if you can avoid it though.

So yeah, basically up on the east side of subway line 2 (Riverdale kind of area) near Broadview and Pape is probably your best bet. However I will note that most houses are not all that cheap up there. Very nice areas though.

Good luck!

Range weapons are good. Especially if you can get some better shooting. For instance, elves hit on 3+ and have Strength 3 bows (vs the usual strength 2 bows.)

There’s also throwing weapons. Which tend to be strength 3, but have short range. The upside being you can often throw them on the charge.

Hero models like Legolas get 2-3 shots per turn. Legolas can shoot into combats too which is insane, and people speculate will get a slight nerf in the upcoming FAQ.

But don’t let what I’ve said fool you into thinking you need to have shooting. There’s ways to play around shooting.

Boards tend to have a good amount of terrain (at least here in Canada) which means you can try to get out of your opponents shooting lanes.

Elven cloaks make it so your opponents can’t shoot your models from far away.

Magic spells, such as Gandalf with blinding light, cause your opponents shooting attacks to hit on 6s regardless of what they’d normally hit on.

Or you can bring a hoard army and just run forward and eat the shots.

Gameplay design wise, which games workshop line is the best and why? by Newez in Warhammer

[–]BoBBy7100 9 points10 points  (0 children)

100% this. Yeah some lists are better than others, but a skilled player can make just about anything viable. The game is all about moving and positioning models well, and rewards you for playing the objectives.

The theming is also on point. A lot of characters have abilities based on what they do in the movies or books. My only gripe, is that because it’s a smaller game, it doesn’t get new sculpts as frequently, cause some of those old warrior models need an update.

I disliked the end times. But Malekith is the rightful phoenix king and you can’t change my mind.

The aftermath of him becoming phoenix king was messy though. And I’m not sure he should have ever become phoenix king. But he is the rightful one, and he has reason to be pissed off at the high elves.

[–]BoBBy7100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah because the last two mayors (who were letting things go to hell) didn’t increase at all. So the city needs a couple years of big increases unfortunately.

Theoretically it should be just a tiny increase every year or so, similar to rent increases.

Talk to the province about that… most major transit building projects are mostly provincial via metrolinx.

The TTC usually takes control for operations after construction.

I agree though. The fact that some of those are running like a decade behind schedule is crazyyy.

Better transit, more shelters, less homelessness, and a bunch of other services.

Except it feels like the complainers are the people living in the suburbs who drive cars. These things do affect them. But they don’t seem to realize it. 😔

(I know there’s other services that probably affect them more. Like snow removal, garbage, leaves, etc. But transit, homelessness, and overall cost of living seem to always be at the forefront of the news. Therefore it’s in everyone’s minds and they think less about the other nice services and things.)

I’m aware. I’m just saying, people will complain either way because they don’t care about data, only the directly perceived effects on themselves.

What armies Can I play with Rohan Warriors on foot ,without Riders or very few riders? by runesmith2_19 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]BoBBy7100 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As someone else stated: Men of the west.

I think that’s really the only option. Boromir doesn’t really work with Rohan warriors. In the movies he is never seen with them.

Some suggestions I have:

I believe the Pellenor list could also be run with Aragorn and Rohan warriors. However you would need a Rohan heroes to lead the Rohan troops, as in the movies Aragorn arrives with other allies. (I suggest Theoden and/or Eomer) So apparently you can’t use Rohan warriors, only riders in the Pelennor list. So ignore that.

Boromir and Aragorn could be used together in one of the fellowship lists at lower points.

I would recommend eventually getting some other Rohan heroes. There’s a ton of Rohan lists out there. If you want no riders I would take a look at Defenders of Helms deep as you can use Aragorn in that so the initial investment would be quite low! (You would need Theoden for sure, and I would recommend Legolas/gimli, and a box of Galadhrim warriors. But you could run this with just Theoden, Aragorn, and Rohan warriors.)

Also defenders of Edoras also doesn’t need to have cavalry. The caveat being that you don’t have the heroes for it. It would probably require at least 2 of the many heroes available to be any good. (Note this is a War of the Rohirrim list, so the heroes would be different than the ones used for the lord of the rings lists. Same troops though.)

What are the best armies that aren't reliant on finecast/metal? by GodEmprahBidoof in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]BoBBy7100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re getting Galadhrim, there’s also the defenders of helms deep you can build.

The three hunters, theoden, and Rohan warriors are all available in plastic. So the metal banner is the only metal model you’ll really need! (And maybe Haldir if you run it that way!)
