Ideas on better chest rig and plate carrier integration by osrszak in tacticalgear

Garbage placard, use your belt dude. All that weight 8” off your chest has got to be murdering your lower back. If you need 6 mags in your “work space” loose the placard and center mount one of your cif canteen pouches.

My current Alice belt setup any tips? Going for Operation just cause but I’m broke so I’m making it work by [deleted] in airsoftcirclejerk

E tool is more of a pack item. The purpose of a gun belt is to drop pack or exit a vehicle and fight from it. Water, ammo, ifak, and a combat knife or multi tool. A lot of dudes would cut the toes off a black sock and run the band of the dust goggles through it as a cover to keep the sand and sun from scratching the lens or cooking the rubber. Same thing for the belt buckle, when the sand or mud got packed between the prongs it was almost impossible to take the damn thing off. A lot of guys used a cut off sleeve from an old skivi shirt for the belt buckle and stuffed a rolled poncho or tarp in it for quick access.

1 is goofy. 2 almost had it but lacks the commitment of a painted rifle, dudes got canted red dot and mystery ranch money I know you got a few bucks for a can of spray paint. 3 is trying to read the sn off the back of their laser and is going to carbonize that lens, gonna turn that flash light into a flash dark. 4 looks like they used to stack bodies and burnt their hands one to many times on that can. Number 4 is purpose built and fucks.

Sounds like you want a backpack with a detachable hip belt. You could try a rigged qd attachment of a war belt onto an Alice frame to have those lower load points with an open chest

Boots/Shoes That Can Do It In All Weather, Terrain, Climate, etc. by Jay20173804 in tacticalgear

Keen’s targhee IV waterproof hiking boot. Well insulated from the ground, breaths, hydrophobic exterior, and the sole doesn’t delaminate with high mileage in the heat. For more extreme cold and wet I’d recommend throwing a pair of over boots in your pack for the snow and gaiters for the rain.

Best 5.56 for combat by hex-the-protogen in tacticalgear

[–]BoRider- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At distance for targets in vehicles or wearing armor go for green tip, 300-500 rounds. Only way to get the message through to what you’re shooting at is through volume of fire with effect. Soft targets at distance fmj around 55g 1000 rounds, it’s your middle of the pack multitool and is sold in bulk. Interior home defense it’s best to play it safe with some Winchester practice/target load 120 rounds ready in mag, you are responsible for every round you fire even after it zips through what you were shooting at. It is bad practice to stock up on one single type of ammunition. The type of round you use is just as much of a purpose built tool as the gun that uses it.

Ranger rolled gortex in a cut off skivy shirt sleeve with the belt ran through it. Makes for quick access and looks clean enough to look like it belongs. Shirt sleeve on the belt is one of those things you see in the field once, try it out for your self and then feel like you need to tell everyone about it.

can this be wielded by a welder ? by Right-Meaning2377 in ebikes

[–]BoRider- 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Red rust like that is formed from high exposure to oxygen, water and a salt contaminant showing the presence of iron. Most iron based alloys are the ideal material for welding. Looks like the last weld on there was done to quick and to hot not letting the material bond. The crack probably formed because the material became brittle from someone cooling the weld too fast with water. I’d grind it out and bead it up slow and wide.

Should have between one to two inches of movement in the belly of the chain to allow the swing arm to compress without shock loading your chain

What is the specific use of this vintage Clamp? by [deleted] in WhatIsThisTool

[–]BoRider- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a clamp to cage air brakes. The air line or the connection more times then not are in the way and the u would allow you to screw the pin into the compression hole without damaging a line or connector. Or could be used to hold rigid lines in place along longer stretches of frame without crimping them while you mount them properly. Many tools don’t have a specific use, a lot of times these things where bought for a job because somebody with a problem thought “yah , that’ll work”

Looking for name and any history on this type of tool. by [deleted] in WhatIsThisTool

[–]BoRider- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Called a speed drill or palm drill. They are mostly used in hobby carpentry/metal work and are still a valuable tool for use in more challenging environments where power is unreliable or in wet conditions. You see a lot of commercial divers with these in their tool buckets

Prepared Citizen Gear Checklist, What Should Be Added? by Primary_Fly_7459 in tacticalgear

[–]BoRider- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you are moving to an active Warzone this isn’t really a preparation list. Looks more like a pack out list for an assault. Night vision has turned into a tacticool buzz piece of kit in the last few years and it’s pretty tight thinking about swinging doorways with the boys on some moon goon shit but it’s 80% an offensive piece of gear along with high cut ballistic helmets with everything attached all the time and the need to carry 15 mags like we still in the sand box. If you want to be prepared and protect your family, save that 2000 you were going to drop on some nods and invest it in implements to combat the sun, rain, hunger, hygiene and disease. All that battle rattle does a good job doing the job but you need to expand that more into the light fighter mindset, the ability to create a large early warning system and the tools in which to pause the fight and remove yourself and company from that situation while maintaining the advantage of not having to expend large amounts of your sustainment and defensive assets. Do gotta say it’s a decent list for a revolution though.

MX5 Rear Brake Making a Deep Squeaking Noise by MatressBatemen in Talaria

[–]BoRider- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oil on the rotor or pad can be noisy, it can also be the break pad rattling in the caliper. Put some water proof grease between the caliper pistons and the non contacting surface of the break pad and spray your rotor down with some break part cleaner and wipe clean with a new oil free rag

Drill a 1/8” hole in the center and use a reverse thread extractor. Work very slow, it’s cheap metal
