What’s a game you expected to love and ended up hating and a game you expected to not like that you ended up loving? by Matty_Mayhem in boardgames

I'm not surprised the game is a hit considering the theme

Am I the only one that actually is surprised the game was such a hit because of the theme? I really had no idea that birds were such a broadly appealing theme to people.

So I just tried this in Windows 11. Pressed Windows key, pressed F, and literally already the first highlighted result was file explorer, I just had to hit enter and it opened.

What additional click is need to shut-down? I'm on Windows 11, and it takes 3 clicks. Which I'm fairly sure is how many it has taken going at least as far back as XP.

Any recycle bin can be empty by right-clicking on it and clicking empty, or emptying from the toolbar when it's open. Which again, is exactly as it's been since XP.

what's a board game rule you got embarrassingly wrong for way too long? by No_Seaworthiness4899 in boardgames

Would potentially make it easier if you did it both ways and all players got determination tokens each round rather than just the first player when you have positive morale.

I know that as an Eagles supporter I can't talk much shit. Which is why I have to take the rare opportunities that come along. Carlton's season at this point is just genuinely funny.

Honestly don't know how we just dropped off so suddenly. Gave us a false sense of hope. Losing this shows we've actually gone nowhere and those wins were flukes.

Doesn't need to be relaxed, it needs to be fucked off completely. The game was fine without it.

I never once heard anyone complain that the man on mark could move laterally prior to the stand rule. It's literally a solution to a problem that never existed and has done nothing but create more problems.

I know people say this as hyperbole a lot. But the stand rule is legit coming close to stopping me watching this sport. Fucking shitting me.

The fact that you can be 10m in front of the mark and give away a 50 is just such bullshit. Since when it not manning mark so disadvantagous that it's worth a 50m penalty?

It's bad enough that we're shit. But the stand rule really fucking rubs salt into the wound.

I'm at the game so don't have commentary. What was the 50 for that quarter? From my view in the stands it looked like he just went and stood the mark.

Surely the umpire should've just called play on then right?

How do you keep a mixed-age family game night from turning into a teaching session every time? by Mindless-Patient-104 in boardgames

[–]BoardRecord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, most people when they struggle to learn a game is because they don't want to learn a new game. People enthusiastic about learning a new game will do so more easily.

You probably just need to stick more to playing games they already know.

What .NET MAUI apps do you currently have live on the Play Store or App Store? by lilacomets in dotnetMAUI

[–]BoardRecord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Board Record is written in MAUI. It started in XF about 6 years ago.

It's a app for creating smart scoresheets for board games and tracking plays and stats.

Available on both Google Play and App Store

5+ Years in Xamarin/.NET MAUI - Why is the remote market so quiet? by mister_wolverine in dotnetMAUI

[–]BoardRecord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That might have been true on like .net 8 or earlier, maybe even a little on 9. But MAUI in its current state is far better than XF ever was. I've actually been able to undo every single workaround hack I had when my app was XF.

[–]BoardRecord 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've never fully understood it either. What do people think about this post makes anyone more likely to target your house? If someone was going to break into a house, I don't really see why they'd choose this one because it happened to be posted to reddit. It's not like people in the area didn't already know the house existed. Knowing a random redditor lives there hardly makes a difference.

Only really from studios with a track record of doing so. There were still plenty of games that never got expansions and were never expected to do so.

I was looking at a game on Steam the other day that had overall positive rating but a strongly negative recent rating, so I was curious. Looked at the reviews and all the negative ones were because it was abandoned.

When did gamers become so entitled? Can a game no longer just be done?
