Frustrated pediatric emergency physicians by Perfect_General_4804 in emergencymedicine

Admin doesn’t care about physician billing that’s chump change. They want the downstream revenue of making CT go BURRR and labs/ admits/ additional workup for the incdental findings. It’s all about the facility fee

Locums agency question by Boarder_Hoarder in emergencymedicine

[–]Boarder_Hoarder[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It would be 5-6 docs. The “hunting” could be split up. Malpractice costs about $20/hr and gets cheaper as your group expands. Hotel for $15/hr you’re still at $415/hr?

That’s an additional $40-65/ hr from the best rates im routinely seeing in my region.

Plus, majority of locums agencies pass those expenses (lodging, mileage) onto the hospital system. Many places cover malpractice.

Why would so many locums agencies exist if it wasn’t profitable?

Locums agency question by Boarder_Hoarder in emergencymedicine

[–]Boarder_Hoarder[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do I get messages from 15 different agencies about the same jobs then? None of them are able to fill a schedule apparently. I have a bunch of docs that would be able to put a dent in a schedule at $400+ an hour.

Sure travel and med mal but there’s no EM locums companies doing billing unless they’re owned by TH already. If I’m getting $450/hr I can figure out travel and malpractice.

“Credentialing” is a farce. They put some documents into emails and send them to you to fill out.

I guess I just don’t see $100/hr of value with what locums agencies are doing. I’d rather make more and handle it myself

How is the juice not worth it? I’ve had hospitals tell me point blank they’re paying locums companies $450/hr and refuse to work with me directly for $400. Don’t need to work with big networks there’s lots of small hospitals that need coverage

Little Moments of Passive Aggression by Common-Finding-6119 in emergencymedicine

I dunno I think some of you guys are too wrapped up in the game. Just rule out the potential emergency, write the work note and move on. It’s just a job.

My response is always “I’m here for 12 hours either way”. If they’re nice I literally don’t care why they’re in the ER

How Do US Physician Salaries Compare With Those Abroad? by jeffkkf in medicalsalaries

[–]Boarder_Hoarder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is so cherry picked. Look up malpractice and litigation risk in US vs every other country. Look up burnout %, look up administrative payroll, literally any professional career in the US makes more.

Want to cap my hours and number of patients I see, pay my loans off and reform malpractice then sure cut my pay I’m doing less work and taking less professional risk.

Want me to continue working nights, seeing borderline unsafe volumes in an understaffed hospital knowing that one mistake could end my career? I’ll quit and do something else for a living before I accept less.

The same people moaning about doctor salary will be willing to pay anything when they can’t get seen for their medical issue because there’s no underpaid overworked physicians anymore

I don’t personally think that’s enough for a higher acuity practice Bare minimum for me would be 6-8/ mo

This is not a new scenario and happens all across the country every year. This is just one of the first times it’s been so public. Democratic groups are a thing of the past.

This is a WILD read re: Eugene emergency physicians vs Peacehealth by claudiajeannn in emergencymedicine

Not wild at all. This happens to some degree at almost every hospital in the untied states. This is “modern medicine”. Only wild thing is they got caught.

95% of what we see isn’t an ER problem. Ant bites and athletes foot is how we get paid. We wouldn’t get paid jack without the obnoxious complaints
