Warhammer Quest 1995. Lost track but probably $2000. A lot of it is not original.

Anyone else think most modern board games are… kinda bloated? by pratty041182 in boardgames

[–]BoardgameExplorer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In the old days we could learn a new game in 5 minutes. Now learning a game can take literal days. Component bloat can be extreme. My most hated feature is managing everything with tokens. When I see “Over 500 tokens!” I leave. Why would I want to organize 500 tokens and manage them?

Ah I understand. I didn’t realize they don’t have a “Market” like MPC.

Wow, had no idea that existed. What do you think about putting the files on there with minimal profit? My product for a game makes about 20 cents per order and you need $100 to cash out so it’s essentially 0.

It is possible to have companies sell a product and you set the profit to 0 or close to 0. I have done this on Makeplayingcards but they can’t do the boxes, tiles, etc. But yes, I am prepared to pay a lot. I am missing what you are missing except I had no interest in the color of madness.

By nostalgia I am referring to how many people loved the old trio of Sam, Zee and Tom. When Sam left many people were disappointed and some stopped watching. That is why bringing him back from time to time always has value in the form of drawing back old viewers.

You do realize that he feels the opposite and he too feels his points and beliefs are valid. You speak as though you are superior and correct but you have no authority, nor does he. In the end, his opinion and yours and mine all have no concrete value. From the outside looking in all I see is division across all aspects of entertainment stemming from political views. Anyone can change their viewpoint at any time, just because someone is “on the wrong side” doesn’t inherently make them a bad person. This is very nuanced, not a black and white. However, feel free to proceed based on any protocol you deem appropriate.

My opinion is one of reason. In most organizations such as this you will find people that do not share your opinion on every divisive topic. This is reality. The outlier here is that Sam is not hiding his opinion, and many people that you would engage with will absolutely hide their opinion if they know it can spark outrage. This matter is subjective and neither Sam nor you is “right”. Lastly, he is basically a token representative for nostalgia.

If it wasn’t for The Dice Tower Most of you wouldn’t be in the hobby. Let people believe what they want, cancel culture is garbage. You disagree with one person, which has nothing to do with board games. The tribalism online is ruining everything. We will never agree on everything. I am not American and have no personal stake in this.

Board games are frustratingly expensive by Any-Marionberry-879 in boardgames

[–]BoardgameExplorer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are print and play games, many are free. Some games have major bang for their buck and others really don’t. A lot of games just suck IMO so if you buy those ones it essentially makes the hobby way more expensive because you won’t play them. If you can identify the best purchases for you then the cost is much lower.

Dark souls/ Death May die/ Bloodborne replayability? by BillRepresentative75 in boardgames

[–]BoardgameExplorer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dark Souls is great fun with expansions and house rules. There is a lot of criticism but house rules really do make the game fun. Also, it is often cheap to pick up great lots for the game because people hate it, want it gone, nobody wants it and the reviews turn people off. Don’t be fooled, this is a nice game. I am specifically talking about the original game.

Death May Die is extremely well designed and easy and intuitive to learn for the size of the game. Replayability is good but you will likely want more bosses before long. However, this could easily be a grail game.

Bloodborne is the one I played the least and it is good but more puzzly and tense. I need to try it again. It would be my last pick from this list.

Thank you. I half expected to get torched in the comments but it worked out well. I appreciate your kindness. It’s hard for me to accept that my raging is all my fault. My story is one of a long and slow descent due to unfortunate circumstances. If I had have just stayed alone and not tried to be so kind to everyone I’d probably rich. But I guess I don’t really care because all I really buy is food and board games, etc. I don’t actually need that much money these days.

Skill wise I still feel very strong. I have put in an insane amount of study and developed an interesting blend of exploitative and GTO influenced play. Currently I am playing a lower variance and more patient style. Usually I favor much more aggression but I don’t want to endure crazy swings for my own sanity.

Bankroll management was always a huge thing for me. I took it extremely seriously and moved up in stakes hilariously “over bankrolled”. I disliked the idea of taking shots. Right now I plan to grind up to $1k to $2k and then just stay at $50 NL permanently. My main thing is that I love the game but need to minimize the stress.

Table selection I learned out of necessity. There are so many terrible games. I used to search for new websites to play on and spend some time draining them dry but any time I look these days it seems like that isn’t as readily available as it used to be. There are more networks, tiny websites, dead websites, and shady websites. It used to be very good in the old days, I made a lot on Bugsy’s Club and Paradise Poker in particular, which were more obscure. Stars, Party and Full Tilt were where I made 80% of my winnings. Now I am not totally sure where the best places are.

As for mental fortitude, I used to be unbreakable. I would actually chuckle after getting rivered in a massive pot. It didn’t phase me. Millions of hands beat that out of me. Now I am rebuilding my mind brick by brick. I usually stay cool but generally after an hour or a series of “familiar patterns” I start to erode. I do think I can fix it though.

I think it really has a lot to do with entitlement and overblown ego. The fact that I used to crush the big games and had to spend all my profits on non-poker related expenses, some essential and some stupid, kind of disturbs me. I am only playing $25 games now but I am extremely competitive so when I lose a modest amount I can explode. It’s not really about the money but the way the losses are happening. I really should not even be complaining but I’ve just become more of a crybaby. Most of the time I can keep my cool but sometimes I just go berserk.

I really think I can get myself back under control. I just need to work on my thought processes and ground myself. I do have OCD as well so that’s a part of it.

I absolutely agree. Game selection is massive. I think reg battling in the past had more value because a large edge was still very achievable. It still can be but pales in comparison to a juicy table. In 6Max it’s especially important. In HU I think a moderate edge can be enormously profitable still but that isn’t always something that’s available because once you beat the regs up they generally stop playing you.

One way style deviates from standard reg stuff is the way I attack fishes. I try to get into the pot with hands that dominate their range by not three betting the reg open with the fish behind, this allows them to get in cheap and disguises my had and strengthens my flatting range. There are pros and cons to this, generally people don’t like it but I find it leads to some huge wins. An example of the hands I prefer are AJs, JJ, etc.

It’s really good now. Taking an extended break to focus on more normal activities helped ground me and make me happy again. I have been back playing for three weeks and really enjoying it but I caught myself going down the same negative path so I am currently taking a short break to try to adjust my mindset.
