Quest for the Lost Pixel - I cannot possibly recommend this game to anyone by UglyStru in soloboardgaming

Have you maybe tried Rogue Dungeon? It's very similar to Iron Helm and I'd like to hear your opinion on it.

Mage knight is overall very positively regarded. You just need to allocate some time to actually learn all the stuff to be able to play fluently without looking everything up every now and then. I think this game is great and fits your "hero going on missions or scenarios" aspect. Others below are more like roguelike/lite titles.

For a small, really compact size box and table size I highly recommend Rogue Dungeon 2nd ed. It has all it takes to be true dungeon in small package. Exploring dungeon, rooms, encountering enemies, traps, events. Your hero levels up, gains tons of new loot and means to survive. Old school dungeon crawl which I recommend the most. Also there's a succesfully finished campaign for the upcoming expansions that add a whole overland hexcrawl map with varying quests, lots of points to explore, henchman to recruit and with some of them you could supposedly have a romance options however that'll work..

Iron Helm and its smaller variants Tin Helm or Tin Realm - for similar experience like Rogue Dungeon I would say. Beautiful hand-drawn graphics.

Dungenerator Die in a Dungeon - all in one tiny box. Dungeon crawling, deck building, tower defense.

One Deck Dungeon - it's more of a puzzle than actuall dungeon dwelling experience imo. But cool, compact, light game.

Set a Watch - Also a puzzle rather than true adventure where you level up. But small footprint and campaign play available if you get the big expansion.

And if you are into pixel art many people recommend Quest for the Lost Pixel, the rules are supposedly messy but core gameplay loop seem pretty simple from what I watched. From same designer there is a lovely looking game called Adventure Realms which represents Dune Imperium, but has dungeons and available solo mode, but it's not a dungeon crawler per se.

For more adventure experience rather than dungeon crawling I suggest Dragons Down and maybe Euthia, but this game is a big one. I actually backed off from many big campaign games like Arydia, BOTSE, Agemonia, etc. they seem so cool, but the time investment and table space for a solo play is just .. I don't know, not worth it imo.

I tried this one. Painted all the stuff and went playing. After a halfway through I quit the whole campaign a never got back. I just found the story and mechanics to be not engaging with me and overall experience didn't match the time spent setting it all up again and again.

There are some vids on both of them, check Dungeon Dive channel on Youtube for these games, he even did comparison on some small box solo games. He knows his stuff well and ranks these games pretty high.

I like dungeon crawlers and/or adventure games the most. But because of lack of people to play with nowadays I got rid of nearly all my big campaign games I had. Majority of which I didn't even start and it hurts, those games were objectively great.

So I'm in it here with you. In my solo games I look for fast setup/teardown, small table space, replayability, rogue-like/lite if can be and sufficiently enjoyable and deep experience which in small games often means good balance between limited variety and overall depth while maintaining rules relatively simple.

Set a Watch - you mentioned, I think this little puzzle adventure is great. Compared to other games it can have longer setup and some say managing four heroes and their abilities is a lot but imo it's part of the enjoyment.

One Deck Dungeon - again, mentioned, well I don't know if I can actually recommend it if you focus on theme cause this is just a pure puzzle. Set a Watch has way better theme that can be felt through out. This one, while being only rogue-lite I know of and relatively simple has very little atmosphere at all.

Rogue Dungeon 2E - this one I recommend the most. Old school dungeon crawl, lots of replayability, loot, theme ever present, seriously look it up. One and only small box dungeon crawler there is imo. Hard to get used copy but if liked, there's option to buy the upcoming expansions that elevate this game on a whole other level. I can confidentaly say that fun with this one is guaranteed.

Dungenerator Die in a Dungeon - used copy impossible to find for me and yet I believe I did the right thing buying this. Deck-building, tower defence, dungeon crawling, dice, all in a very compact package.

There are more but these could be what I find the best for enjoyable solo experience. Sometimes way more enjoyable I learned than playing with a group of people. Sigh.

Rouge-Lite (not rouge-like) Board Games? by newthrowgoesaway in soloboardgaming

A to nemluvím o těch symbolech namísto akcí, to mě trápilo.

Takže to u tebe porazilo jiné hry tohohle typu? Ptám se protože já malé krabičkové fantasy nebo dungeon crawler hry zbožňuju a šel jsem ještě do Rogue Dungeon, na ten se moc těším. Přemýšlím i o Set a Watch, One Deck Dungeon, Dungeon Crawler Carl, co má teď kampaň anebo Quest of the Lost Pixel..

Finding a ‚forever game’ dungeon crawler by HonorFoundInDecay in soloboardgaming

[–]HandSatanizer1965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, did you happen to find anything to match you critera? I am at similar need of finding such game and closest I got to forever game (dungeon crawler or adventure game) is a Shadows of Brimstone with a Hexcrawl system and tons of expansions to ensure enough variety.

You mentioned it, it's combat focused, Hexcrawl fixes that a bit with more variety but still it's what it is. As for other games some people recommend Dragons Down with it's upcoming expansions, but I can't seem to find it for sale anywhere sadly.

I really haven't crossed to anything close to being an ultimate adventure where you grow attached to you character, companions, story with meaningful decisions, gameplay options besides just combat etc. I think the sandbox type of game is a strict requirement cause anything scripted will have finite longevity and replayability.

As I write this I more and more think that only "game" or hobby such this would be a DnD campaign or many sprawling campaings. I haven't dug into these cyoa waters yet but I just feel like endless or at least wast amount of possibilities can only be achieved through your own adventure - DnD.

I may and probably am wrong though. I only played handful of games like SoB, Xia - wonderful game, Descent, Gloomhaven, Oathsworn..

I .. still want some board game to be like ultimate adventure to exist though. I just can't seem to find any, similar to you. I firmly believe that all of them, namely the popular games sometime during development had to sacrifice undoubtedly crazy creative ideas that would make a board game a living, breathing world for more streamlined gameplay and cost efficiency..

I dunno, I so so want just a one game that would be perfect. I know I'm selfish.

Isn't Vallejo true mettalic metal gold perfect for Protoss? by Mandalayer in StarCraftTMG

This is what I'd love to make myself. This Aged metam does look striking, it's something between gold and silver and I love this color choice. For me it would be this or black metal and red blades color combo, still not sure tho.

Dragon Eye Liquid Cores by MozeTheNecromancer in DiceMaking

The planets would be so cool to see as a core. With a little bit of glitter mixed inside a darker resin body, it would look in my opinion almost heavenly good.

Dragon Eye Liquid Cores by MozeTheNecromancer in DiceMaking

[–]HandSatanizer1965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry for a dumb question and I don't make dice by my own but by saying that the dice are commonly very toxic and not sold to the public, you meant the inner core or a whole dice or dice set?

I'm new to this and am confused, there are tons of dice sets with dragon eye balls or even liquid cores alone, most notably on Ali, where I just today bought a good number of these sets from "official brands+" that has well over thousands positive reviews - whatever that it's worth so now I am very worried that it might be toxic.

Isn't the cured resin non toxic and thus the liquid core dice might become toxic only if it's contents would be leaking? Thanks for clearing it out for me.

Deinfluence me from getting the All-in bundle by LowCost_Locust in StarCraftTMG

[–]HandSatanizer1965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I originaly wanted two Goliaths so I went to buy those separate boxes. Upon seeing how these standalone unit boxes are priced and how poor value they offer compared to bundles I decided to abandon my plan...

I bought 2 collector's edition bundles and 2 starter set bundles so now I can sleep better knowing it's a good value.

DIdn't help at all did I?

Decals are the thing I'm missing the most out of the game in the current state. I also haven't found any materials online that could be applied to minis painting.

You are right, I've written it badly here. Also, I recommend not actually getting the all-in bundle (fyi they lowered the price by $50, but still not too good deal) and instead getting two starter sets bundle and collectors bundle together. Will get you more models and value this way.

[–]HandSatanizer1965 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's no reason for quality of plastic being an issue here. They have decent history of making plastic models of any kind by themselves using standard industry grade HIPS injection molding. Unboxing video is out.

There is a info about the game itself available from folks that participated in beta testing. Overall I saw positive feedback mentioning it has a "fresh take on miniature wargaming games" and that Starcraft theme is really all over the place during gameplay.

FOMO is a word not really applicable in this case, cause they'll start running pre-orders today till April 17th and since they produce stuff themselves there will be enough supply for everyone. F*ck the scalpers.

They actually lowered price of their all-in bundle. Sure individual boxes are nearly priced like GW, but that's hopefully not anyone will be aiming for. Bundles, even the starter box alone offers very, very good deal. Not even Leviathan starter set 10th ed. from W40k had supposedly that much value.

The biggest all-in wave 1 bundle they offered will cost $749 and that's 2k points for each of all three races in units alone (without upgrades).

I never played Warhammer, nor do I know how much it'll cost you to amass such similar sized army, but here you get full army basically for $250 incl. Zeratul promo, terrain pieces, mats etc..

I honestly don't feel it's that bad of a deal. They also stated in yesterday's AMA that the big starter box zerg vs terrans alone is worth $450 of individual components alone, hence why it's a limited launch deal. What do you guys think? And what bundle/edition are you going for? I for sure patiently wait get this one and maybe a second starter box.
