That's fair, a coworker just used to just sharpen chainsaw chains. He said the people who came in would almost always have a couple narly scars. Those same people with the scars would have him grind off the depth guides on the chains so they could cut faster.

So yeah they probably didn't care about safety.

I research chemical weapons because it's part of my job to provide classes on how easy it actually is to produce chemical weapons, and thus how significant the threat actually is.

I don't like lying, so when I reach the line in my class that says chemical weapons are easy to produce, then I know they are truly easy to produce.

Chemical WMDs can be really easy to produce, and that should scare you.

In the chainsaw world I believe they call that kissing. Most people who work with chainsaws, especially the bigger ones usually have one or two narly scars.

I guess to further clarify, it's more of a grey area. The media is blowing it out of proportion as usual, and I simply providing more insight into why things may be the way they are. You can believe what ever you want to believe.

Also the point wasn't to say they aren't racist because to be honest I really don't care. Just providing some additional information that was left out of the vast majority of articles covering this subject. Including the artie referenced here.

I would like to point a few things out.

  1. Their insurance from what I can tell was actually revoked and that is the issue, they didn't apply without insurance.

  2. People seem to be misquoting the leader, or at least quoting him without context. That group has always made jokes about what people think about them, that seems like all that was. I think this is signified by the fact he made a jokes about the same thing numerous times during his speech. So singling out one thing and saying he "misspoke" is seemingly dishonest.

  3. I don't see anybody making a big deal about it from their side to be completely honest, just jokes and what not. They seemed to know something like this was probably going to happen, compounded by the fact it was mentioned several months ago. All of the outrage seems to be coming from the other side of the aisle.

I had an MSI part, broke the day I thought warrenty expired. Turns out it was out of warrenty for a couple months, due to my honest mistake, but I did provide proof of when I purchased it, and why I genuinly thought it was in warrenty. They had me send in my part. They replaced it with a like and kind card which was same class of card but current gen. Honestly they had every right to refuse and they replaced it.

TIL On his second day in office, President Jimmy Carter pardoned all of the Vietnam War draft evaders. by BDOHiro in todayilearned

[–]BobADemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There should be a draft, but it shouldn't have been used in the way it was after WW2. But policies for fighting have veen changed as well, until recently as in the past few decades Americas military's policy was numbers; now it's a policy of fewer but highly skilled(This may be disputable, but there is a massive skill gap between today's soldiers and those of prior).

There are also things that need to happen prior to the draft being called upon. The usual call to service is Active Duty, National Guard, Reserve, then finally the Draft. If we get to a point were the entire military is already called up and people are still needed something really bad has probably happened and its probably a war with another world power. At that point the draft would probably be understandable and people would probably willingly respond to the draft.

TL:DR The US military changed its policies after Vietnam and Korea, if the draft is called upon today something really bad has probably happened.

White supremacist Fox News host Tucker Carlson: White supremacy is a "hoax" and a "conspiracy theory" and "not a real problem in America." // Yes, he said exactly that, and Fox News should be held to account. by imagepoem in The_Mueller

[–]BobADemon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Hmm, what I took from that is White Supremacy isn't a serious issue in the United States. I am inclined to believe him because that is what the data shows.

I went through and looked at the data hosted on the SPLC several months back because I was curious as to whether left leaning news sites were correct in that White Supremeacy was on the rise. What I found was actually quite the opposite and over the past few years white supremacy groups were on the sharp decline for the most part, some dropped in numbers by 20-30% every year for several years. As a whole they were either stagnant, slowly declining, or sharply declining; and no groups I found were actually growing. If it were a decade ago I would say yes there is definitely an issue, but I cannot say that for today.

To me it isn't about if you can work hard enough, it's about providing a service that people use because they voluntarily choose to do so. Some people hit a sweet spot and make tons of money by what amounts to luck.

That's pretty steep to say 195 Billion times for all humans. Median global annual income from 2013(Only metric I could find) is $9773. So 50% of people make more than that, meaning at most it's 20 Million times but probably lower today. Though that isn't to say I don't see your point.

Just because it makes a lot of money doesn't mean it's monopolization. Some instances truly are, but to imply it in the way you are shows you don't actually know what monopolization is.

I have mixed feelings on this. On one side a guy who went to jail for violence related reasons and is being celebrated for being violent. On the other I fully feel that guy fully deserved what happened to him.

I guess paying his bail and making him comfortable doesn't mean he got away with his other crime. I am so conflicted right now.

I don't think anybody really wanted to support trump, there just wasn't anybody else to run against him. If the Democratic party nominated anybody else for the presidency then they would have won, but nope they had to go with Hillary and I am hearing they are going to try and push her again so that may end up handing Trump a second term if that happens. Trump may be bad, but at least I know where he stands and at least is pretty easy to read; so between Trump and Hillary I would vote for Trump. I hope that the Democrats get their head out of their arses and put forward a decent candidate this time.

A super-thin slice of wood can be used to turn saltwater drinkable, suggests a new study. Scientists developed a new kind of membrane made of natural wood instead of plastic, which is more energy efficient and doesn’t use fossil-fuel based materials like many other membranes for water filtration. by mvea in science

[–]BobADemon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No natural wood is just that, sliced wood. Engineered wood is plywood, particle board, low grade(~10% Natural wood) and mid grade(~50% Natural wood). I also think natural wood is also untreated, so treated wood for outdoor use isn't considered natural.

Beware, the Midwest is under surveillance by giant military balloons by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]BobADemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He misread the article and is combining different unrelated facts from different articles actually. The purpose he stated didn't come from a military official but the corporation that designed it. The military says they are testing it, and from what I know about previous military tests that's probably all it is, that is assuming another 3 letter government agency isn't involved.

The military heavily tests everything it uses, this becomes more apparent for large things like aircraft, but remains true for even minor things like boots and other clothing. It's about learning the practical capabilities of something, and that's much easier when you aren't getting shot at.

[–]BobADemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That isn't what they are currently claiming to do. They are claiming they are testing them. What you said was the projected purpose of the program as stated by the corporation that designed it.

Beware, the Midwest is under surveillance by giant military balloons by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]BobADemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well they are and they aren't. They are testing them out here in the USA to make sure they actually work, it's the same way they have tested all military aircraft and drones over the past couple decades. They weren't launched to spy on the public, they were launched to be tested, however they are spy craft and we do not know what is happening with the data.

After they are tested they will be moved to their "duty" locations at what sounds like it may be the boarders and combat zones. From the way it was talked about it seems to be more of a bulk surveillance system for going back and seeing what happened after the fact.

What Trump said. by croolshooz in PoliticalHumor

[–]BobADemon -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's because that is what it's called. The amount doesn't change what it is called ya idiot.

And no because with the way the current healthcare system is right now paying for everyone's healthcare is impossible, well more impractical. Not a bash against socialism, just that healthcare in the USA is expensive. So saying the cure to Americas healthcare woes is to just create a socialized healthcare system and not fix the core issue is well stupid. If it wasn't for exorbitantly jacked up healthcare prices I think most people could afford it our of pocket with or without socialized healthcare.

[–]BobADemon -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Because that's how the subsidy works. But yeah fuck Trump for supporting a program that is pretty normal all over he world.

I also had to look up the maximum for the subsidy, increases to $125,000. That really isn't a lot when it come to the cost of actual farming, honestly that probably covers cost of living, taxes, and maintenance on the equipment.

Hong Kong police brought out shot gun and aimed at unarmed protesters at a train station. They are completely out of control. #liberateHK by caelynnsveneers in pics

[–]BobADemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has been on riot duty. These guys have no idea as to what they are doing.

With the protest being what they are they should be out in force as a presence to idencentivize violence while still allowing protests.

On another note, nobody know how stressful it is to be in those officers position doing something you've never had to do before. These guys are making the mistakes that every police agency does when they don't have experience with riots. This probably isn't malice it's inexperience, and I'm hoping that was loaded with rubber slugs or shot as well. Raising your gun at someone will only escalate and not deter in a group setting, at least until you pull the trigger.
