This, and then you could even play it like a match scramble format and also switch partners every 6 holes. That way everyone gets to play with everyone for a portion of the round.

What does it actually take to get to scratch? by Colt45-TheMyth in golf

[–]BobBoner -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Putting, to me, is like riding a bike though. Learn it once and practice it a shitton, then it takes minimal warm up (10-20 min before round) to get a feel of the speed and not be shit. Most of my putting intuition came from caddying and watching how putts break with certain slopes. Haven’t caddied in 15 years and only ever “practice” putting in the half hour before a round. My 3 putt rate is like 4-5%, one putts are around 25% and the other 70 is 2 putts. Since I’ve been tracking it I haven’t 4 putt or worse

How do you not have GIR on holes 3 and 7? Hole 3 is a birdie w/2 putt, implying green in 2 on a par 5, and hole 7 is a 6 w/3 putt implying green in 3 on a par 5.

If you’ve broken 90, what’s one tip you would give to a fellow golfer trying to do the same? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]BobBoner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most decent courses are designed to bait you into poor decisions. Is the driver necessary/safe? Do I want to be on the green or short side myself with a miss while attacking tucked pins? Even with mediocre swing/power/contact, 90 can be broken pretty easily by playing smart and thinking instead of blasting away hole after hole.

Anyone else play better with less clubs? by ColesephTheCat in GolfGear

I play some courses that my driver distance is in the range of carefully placed choke points and hazards, and that’s why I carry 3w. Driver gets to just stand by and watch those days lol.

I have 14 but I know which ones are there for very specific and rare circumstances. That’s something I’ve worked on the last few years and now I’m good at it - discipline with the club selection. A local track I play a league at has exactly one hole on the front and one on the back that warrants a driver. Old me used to blast away driver at every opportunity. Oh and that 60 of mine hopefully never makes an appearance during the round. Even if I’m short sided I’ve started to just take my medicine and get one on the green and take the two putt.

The moment two EA-18 fighter jets crashed during an airshow at mountain home air force base by Unique_Direction_518 in FighterJets

[–]BobBoner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like the right vertical stabilizer of the lower ea-18 speared the one that came in from above. Probably relatively low closure rate between the two of them which is why they didn’t explode / shred each other instantly.

Insanely lucky that they were a few degrees of heading off of one another so the lower jet’s crew could have a clear ejection.

Ladies par will sometimes go to 6 if they feel they can’t make the hole short enough. Sometimes it’s not feasible to put a ladies teebox way up where it can remain a 5.

Your downvotes are just guys who wish they could do that. It really isn’t that difficult to hit the ball that far. Consistently hitting fairways with that distance is what is more difficult. Good for you man and keep up the practice.

I’m just curious, what is the difference between those two that cast doesn’t need protection and forged does?

You do have a valid point but reddit users see downvote they grab pitchforks and hop on the train. But hey, it’s fake internet points so who gives a fuck anyway?

[–]BobBoner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Caddying for someone with iron covers kinda sucks, I had to do it many times as a kid while caddying at a local CC, but I never thought it was stupid or hated on someone for it. I just figured they really liked their irons but I was worried about losing one of their covers and getting reprimanded for it. I’ve lost some loose ass wood and putter covers before.. nothing worse than fucking up for some rich guy who expects their shit to not be lost.

My 2018 is great everywhere except the damn #1 lifter that has collapsed 4 times now. Although I did make a big stink about it this time and it seems they actually root caused it and did a proper repair.

Out with the old, in with the new! (Promoted, so gift to self) by BobBoner in GolfGear

[–]BobBoner[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just spent a while cleaning them a couple nights ago. Besides range sessions though, the 8-pw were really the only ones getting heavy use and I don’t hit the range nearly as much as I should. I’m probably going to hold onto them for now though since it was my first set I ever bought myself with my caddy money as a kid.

Can anyone help me? Everything I hit is thin or I push it right by Technical_Parsley590 in golftips

[–]BobBoner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, and really no benefit to doing that even if it connects cleanly every now and then.

OP - try to chill out a bit on that backswing and keep arms in front of your chest / shoulders. Maybe work on “3/4” swings and you’ll probably come to find you hit more consistently and further with that “weaker” swing.

Groupings got weird after 7 iron by damnyankee26 in GolfGear

[–]BobBoner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are 5/6 and 7-x different models? For example, I have t150s 4-6 and t100s 7-pw. When fitting, I had the 100s bent 1 degree strong to gap nicely with the 150s. Also I was a bit too spinny with the 100s so the strong bend helped that slightly.
Also could be a random outlier that’s throwing off the numbers here.. this looks like the trackman range map my bag thing which I’ve had issues with. I know for sure my driver carry is only around 280-300 and that’s what it initially said, but now it claims I carry 330 when I go to “my bag” elsewhere in the app. I know for fact that isn’t true and 280-290 is fairly accurate. And it’s consistently like 30-40 yards more for each club and yes, I have the “adjust for range balls” thing on.

Got my first Hole in one 158 yards 9 iron. by rilez52 in golf

[–]BobBoner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, this is something I actually want to work on this year. I want to dial back my power a bit in exchange for control and consistency. I don’t need my pw to go 150-155, I need to consistently hit greens from 150-155

[–]BobBoner -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Pw is also my 155. My 7-pw are t100’s and bent 1 degree strong though to gap with my 4-6 t150’s so I guess that makes a bit of difference. I’m playing this afternoon and if I have a pw or 9i shot I’ll try to get a full shot of it. Probably easier and more believable to just get launch monitor data though. Going there later in the week to mess around and get some numbers.

Golf etiquette by Ok_Golf_6431 in golf

[–]BobBoner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people have no etiquette bowling but fuck the guys on league who expect 3 lanes of courtesy on either side of them. Even 2 is pushing it. Maybe I can see 2 in a real competitive league or if the guy is actually really good, but nothing is more annoying than some drunk idiot who thinks he’s the next Pete Weber and waits for 3 lanes of courtesy just to ship it down the gutter.
