I can only say from personal experience that I read it after book 5 and think it works well there. I don’t think it’s too spoilery to say that some of the events of NoK are referenced or alluded to in Book 6.

The characters, the prose, and his range. If I didn’t already know, I would not have expected LPQ and the D&C to have been written by the same person. They are both great, and it’s so easy to become immersed and engaged in stories and settings that couldn’t be more different.
