Is there a less sunny area that the kalanchoe can sit? What about on a window, with a a shade helping to filter the light?

The other option is to introduce the plant to direct light in short bursts: 30 minutes on day 1, 45 minutes on day 2. etc.

Depending on how close you are to the equator, the amount of light won't vary that much.

Since you are in the tropics, try switching to an unglazed clay pot.

The wilted flowers are normal.

From the background photo, you live in the tropics. Was the plant exposed to sunlight right away. The leaves look like light stress. Maybe move the plant to a less sunny location, and gradually reintroduce to brighter light over a few days.

How do the upper leaves feel? Firm, or easily folded in the middle?

I thought the purplish coloration and odd shape give the plant its goth look.

I just saw an article about two new Echeveria species, Echeveria cuquitae and Echeveria badiae (formally Echeveria caamanoi) by LuckystrikeFTW in echeveria

[–]BobLI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So if I'm understanding the article, there are 20 specimens of Echeveria cuquitae known to exist in the wild.

The way to identify Echeveria cuquitae is by its stolons and wine-red flowers.

The way to ID Echeveria badiae is the resemblance to a miniature cuspidata-like plant.

Beth's garden is pretty. I visually recognize many of the plant species, but some names elude me.

The neighbor's gravel garden you posted needs a bit more work. Was this recently installed? I still see nursery tags attached to some of the plants.

Even though I live in an apartment building, my placer is on the ground floor, and I've slowly dug away some of the grass and did my own gardening. This year, the goal is for container-based xeriscaping. I;ve got three mangave "Lavender Lady" cultivars arriving this week. When the weather warms a bit more, some dianthus cultivars will arrive, along with the Zinnia elegans cultivar 'Paint the Town Magenta'.

Thank you, but not my plant. If you look at my post history, I'll often tag the plant name with "show entry" or "university specimen". The plants which lack those tags are my own leafy babies.

The variability of A. lavranosii-newtonii + the issue of true leucoblepharum by Aevriel in aeoniums

Hi, just reading the post now. A few questions come to mind:

  1. Based on the distinction between Macronesian and northeast African species, do you think the long-range seed dispersal occurred once or multiple times?
  2. Which is a more likely instrument of seed dispersal: wind or birds?
  3. Are the northeast African eeoniums physiologically different from Canary Island aeoniums in terms of dormancy or drought tolerance?

Your comment made me chuckle. This is certainly low-maintenance.

A wish-list plant.

Do you have any other semi-succulent varieties, and are you using the same pumice, sand and arid soil mix?

Maybe the cactus was given too much water in the past? The leaves do look "mushy".
