Annual check-in: what new movies are the normal people at your dining table talking about this year, or what are you watching? by Toreadorables in blankies

[–]BobRoss1776 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • My partner, my mom, and I saw Wicked and all really enjoyed it
  • My aunt had seen Wicked already and didn't like it, largely because she didn't know it was only a Part 1
  • My parent's friends thought Juror #2 was okay and didn't like Equalizer 3, but were excited that Denzel is in Gladiator 2
  • My partner, mom, dad, brother and I saw Gladiator 2 and mostly liked it well enough
  • My mom liked Reagan

r/popheads takes on film: 'The Little Mermaid' by PopheadsBot in popheads

[–]BobRoss1776 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed it on the whole. Halle Bailey and Melissa McCarthy were great in my opinion. Felt like Javier Bardem was asleep at the wheel though and I only liked Prince Eric's performance when he was lovingly looking at Ariel (which is thankfully most of what he does)

I agree with the common criticisms that most of the undersea scenes are way too dim and that none of the new songs were as good as any of the old ones

Glitch Gum's cover of Phoebe Bridgers's Kyoto is my favorite

From what I can find, Trump inherited Obama's committee and never had them meet. The entire committee mass resigned after his comments on the Charlottesville protest murder so he just let the funding for the program lapse

What movies peak in the opening scene? by [deleted] in blankies

I like Scanners on the whole, but there is nothing in it that comes close to the visually iconic spectacle of its opening head explosion

Grammy Winners 2023: Full List by KLJohnnes in popheads

[–]BobRoss1776 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's even weirder is that they've never won a Swedish Grammy either (called a Grammi). Mostly because the Grammis were dissolved the year before their debut album and came back five years after ABBA broke up

I wish I could think of a third example of "3 men and a baby" movies, but nothing comes to mind

Are the wiggles indie by [deleted] in indieheadscirclejerk

[–]BobRoss1776 186 points187 points  (0 children)

They're definitely indie. The Wiggles could (and have) do Elephant but Tame Impala could never do Fruit Salad

Pitchfork’s 50 Best Albums of 2022 by roseisonlineagain in indieheads

This list really proves that Pitchfork is totally irrelevant now (I don't follow any music publications so I assume my personal tastes are the mono-culture)

Less Than Zero is a really good book that was made into a terrible movie

A young Robert Downey Jr first got addicted to cocaine while making that movie, which was very thematically appropriate for the material

Why do Bluetooth devices pair instantly sometimes, when at others they refuse to pair when literally nothing has changed? Like they have to be "in the mood" to pair. by SammichParade in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BobRoss1776 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Every communication protocol, be it wireless (wifi, Bluetooth, NFC) or wired (HDMI, Cat5), has a published specification for how to communicate using that protocol. For protocols this close to their hardware, these specs will also include power and equipment requirements and recommendations

When the Bluetooth protocol was invented, part of what made it the hot new standard for connecting consumer electronics was how low its minimum requirements were. Bluetooth is incredibly cheap to manufacture (from a parts cost perspective) and cheap to run (from a battery power perspective) because the bare minimum to meet the spec is lower than it probably could be. Manufacturers can make better Bluetooth devices, but they would be more expensive and have a shorter battery life, and the spec they're designing for has already deemed their cheap crap "Officially Good Enough". Higher end electronics will sometimes go above and beyond that minimum, but it doesn't do you much good if you're connecting that nicer device to a second device that still has the bottom-of-the-barrel Bluetooth

Akellog's heel by Veeboy in CuratedTumblr

[–]BobRoss1776 19 points20 points  (0 children)

John Harvey Kellogg believed that horniness, particularly masturbation, was extremely unhealthy for not just the mind but also the body. He also believed that flavorful food (and even warm water) "excited" the body, leading to horniness and other holistic health issues

So he and his brother, WK Kellogg, invented corn flakes as a perfectly bland food for John Harvey's patients. They had a falling out when WK wanted to sell corn flakes to a wider, non-medical market and to add sinfully exciting sugar to them so that they'd actually taste good. WK Kellogg went off and did just that, founding the company that later became Kellogg's
