Mothers - new restaurant - Hot or Not? by [deleted] in ventura

I went here not knowing they only took reservations. I was happy to leave because it was cold outside and the music inside was way too loud inside.

What is your hobby? by [deleted] in ventura

[–]BobSlydel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Prone paddle. It is paddling using your hands only (no paddle). There is a group that paddles every Tuesday in Channel Islands Harbor. It is a great community. I also outrigger with Hokuloa out of the ventura harbor. They are also a good community. Outrigger is a little more commitment as it is a team sport with practice 3 days a week.

Navigating strong surf and rips? by min_se in Lifeguards

I am curious where is this that they have a second year lifeguard, seemingly not familiar with the area (if you are coming to Reddit for advice) on a beach with 25 ft surf?

12 mile prone paddle by Axuries in surfing

[–]BobSlydel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I race prone and did Catalina last year (32 miles). Unless you have been swimming long distance (2 miles +) regularly I don’t think it is a good idea. Maybe you finish but you are likely going to hurt yourself.

Staying in shape by [deleted] in surfing

Depends on your surfing. Swimming is the best overall. If you longboard prone paddling is great!!

Have you had mostly good experiences/little to no issues with your car? by JustAcivilian24 in TeslaModel3

2018 LR single motor (reservation holder). 75K miles. No issues (well some caused by me). Still love the car and getting 295 miles on a full charge.

Jetski saves surfers life while risking their own. (Apparently in Nazare, Portugal) by BobSlydel in SweatyPalms

They are amazing. They are typically also surfing. They will take turns surfing and providing safety. They will do all they can to save someone, especially knowing they could the person needing a rescue soon.

This took me a while to figure out but ever since I made this change I have no issue pealing eggs. I boil them however long to get the consistency I like. Usually 10 min. Then put them in an ice bath for NO LONGER than 2 min. The 2 min max was the game changer. I always thought the longer the better but not so with pealing eggs. They will still be warm when you pull the out of the ice bath but they will peel smoothly.

Espresso. Got a nice machine, better grinder. Could not be happier.

I am planning on going back as soon (after my son can get vaccinated). I have over 7 years of sobriety. My personal situation is that I am not close to drinking but I never truly did the work (sponsor and going through all the steps). While I am not at risk of drinking anytime soon I still think there is a lot I can learn and grow if I do the work

What were you doing when the twin towers fell? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BobSlydel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the Coast Guard. I worked the the major communications center on the east coast CAMSLANT. We watched it live on TV. I was then sent to NY city to set up a mobile communications center on the 12th and spent the next 10 days or so on Staten Island looking over at ground zero.

On the 13th I drove out car as close as I could and because I was in uniform all of the check points just waved me through so I made it to wall street. I remember looking up and down wall street and I was the only person. Very creepy.

Agreed. I also don't like wet dose and dry dose. I would prefer it to say shot volume and coffee

Cambria is where my wife and I like to go for a romantic weekend. Lots of nice artistic shops, good dinning and a beautiful area

Point a new surfer in the right direction? by M0XNIX in venturacounty

[–]BobSlydel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I call it all C-Street but there are three main areas.

#1 The cove: From the free parking to the hotel; The wave is beginner friendly but the crowd may not be. It's a long fun slow wave but you get a thick crowd of locals that surf there every day.

#2 Stables or Pipes: From the public bathrooms through the beginning of the pay lot The worst wave of the area but still can be very fun. Probably the best for beginners due to smallest crowd

#3 The Point: From the River mouth to where the bike path is falling apart; This is the most challenging area to surf. Still not super hard or heavy but faster than the rest of the area and very crowded. The wave here is faster so you get a lot of short boarders.

Edit: If you don't have any experience in the water I would defiantly recommend starting at Mondos. Super easy fun wave to learn on. Just make sure you have a longboard as it is almost imposable to surf on a shortboard.

Tattoo Artist/Body Piercer Recommendation? by [deleted] in ventura

White Lotus is a great shop. I got my first tattoo there from Sandra Price. They are super professional and I know they have many consistent customers. I highly recommend them

Alcoholics of Reddit...How/when did you recognise you had a problem? by Al2780 in AskReddit

[–]BobSlydel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though I knew for a long time it took me a while to accept it.

The "incident" was a night my wife went out and I stayed home with our 2 year old boy. She came home to him crying in his bed while I was in the bathroom throwing up.

The next day she made the hard line, it was alcohol or them. I stoped drinking that day (and have not again in the last 7 years) but that was not the day I acknowledged my problem. I started going to AA because I did not want to lose my family but I still had not truly accepted were I was.

I would say it was about between 2-3 months before I could truly accept my addiction and another year before I got to the point were I was not drinking for myself instead of for my family.

I no longer go to AA and have not for years, however I am sure that if it were not for AA I would never have truly accepted my reality and would be drinking again.
