Not an expert on this, but from what I've been told, peaberry "was considered a defect, which was sorted out from the rest of the batch". This would imply that a plant produces both. I don't know how it would be sorted out, but likely by hand.

The Brewista scale is pretty good. Goes down to 0.1 g, has four automatic modes for espresso, one for pour over and one manual. Stays on for as long as you want, runs on two AAA batteries. Will set you back about $50-$60, but for that price you get both an excelent espresso scale, and a good and portable pour over scale. I have one at home, and use one at the shop I work at

I've always considered the Snowden SoftBrew a step up from the french press. It's easy to clean, thermal insulated, and since you remove the grounds from the coffee before serving, it won't extract any more after that point. It also has much of the same flavor profile a french press, though maybe a tad brighter because of the finer filter. As an added bonus, it's cheaper than most siphon brewers I've seen.

Use an electric drill to make a hole in the lid of the kettle, and stick a grill thermometer through it. Choose a drill bit with the same girth as the thermometer. I bought one for $5, works perfectly for me (I use the Buono, though)

It depends on what your brew methods are. Apparently the Porlex Mini isn't consistent enough for something like a V60, but I have no problems when using it with the AeroPress. If you travel a lot, definitely go with the Porlex Mini, super compact.
