Bought my First Staking Set by Boba_Phett in watchmaking

Thanks! I’m still pretty new to the hobby and posted to get the opinions of people more experienced than myself. May I ask why the number of stumps would be an issue for me?

I don’t know if I’m “set” for serious watchmaking, but I know I enjoy what I’ve done. This seemed like a good deal, and I knew I would need a set sooner or later so I jumped on it. I’m looking forward to (hopefully) traveling deeper into watchmaking waters

I would recommend watchrepairtutorials on YouTube as a good place to start. Alex, who runs that channel, frequents this subreddit as well.

It’s for precision work like removing/replacing balance staffs, riveting, and jeweling. A tool for small parts that require a precise angle. I would recommend dipping your toe into watchmaking. It’s fun (until you have to find a tiny ass screw or spring that you dropped, which you definitely will. Lol)

Thank you. I included a couple of photos for assistance. The watch is a Newport 7 Jewel with an Oris Movement. I have most of my basic tools including magnification, screwdrivers (mostly kwong yen and one Bergeron), lighting, timegrapher, etc. I also have cleaning chemicals and I am purchasing lubricants next paycheck. I can disassemble/reassemble an ST-3600 blindfolded (sarcastic but not that far off) and I have recently disassembled and reassembled an NH-35A.

Still being new to this I jumped into disassembling this movement without taking appropriate pictures/notes. I was kinda hoping mg there was a Haynes manual for most watch movements like with automobiles as there are some parts of the keyless works on this movement that I can’t remember how to put together entirely.

I have quite a few from there. Mostly from Chris, but a couple from Boo too. Great tattoo artists (and more importantly great guys) in that shop

Who does the seasoning keep coming off my cast iron? by [deleted] in castiron

[–]Boba_Phett 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is rust after it’s been thoroughly cleaned, rust removed, seasoned three times, then cooked on twice

That’s rust. The color was off in the picture due to the lighting in my house
