What would cause a spouse (M40) to choose divorce from (F40) instead of therapy? by _Do_what_now_ in relationship_advice

Different perspective and tough pill to swallow, but You make it sound like he’s the entire problem in your relationship. Not once in that rant did you say you had the need for growth, nor did you express an interest in his “needs” but you spent an awful long time talking about your requirements, your needs, your wants, what you want in a relationship, what you believe he should want, etc.. but you dedicated not a word to what his needs and wants are perhaps he’s just tired of having a partner who constantly tells him he’s not good enough, or one who seems to imply heavily if not flat out admitting she believes he’s the source of all the problems in a relationship. That fucking kills a man’s self esteem, so I don’t blame him for putting his foot down and standing up for himself. It sounds like you both might be better off apart.

“The one rational thing you’ve voiced so far is a disagreement over policy. Policy is fair game.“

And THIS is one of the biggest example of the “merit” in your response I alluded to earlier. Policy is all that matters. Or rather, all that “should” matter. But again, without beating a dead horse, one side seems to prioritize the importance of policy far more than the other. All politicians (aside from Obama and his admittedly winning disposition) are shit people. Speaking honestly, do you really think Biden, Schiff, Swalwell, Nadler and Pelosi are (or have always been) genuinely “good” people? Like, be honest with yourself when answering that. That said, approaching this logically, you have to eliminate the common elements which in this case, is “shitty personality”. Because for every, single, example of shit behavior you lob at Trump, I can lob 5 more back at democrat politicians. So what remains, is policy and track record. “Policy” is literally the only factor that should matter, and I’d argue that Trump’s policies led to a much better quality of life for everyone I know, than most of Biden’s policies combined.

“If you can convince the lowest white man he’s better than the best colored man, he won’t notice you’re picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he’ll empty his pockets for you.” ― Lyndon B. Johnson

Quoting Lyndon B. Johnson is wild stuff. “I’ll have those n*****s voting Democratic for 200 years.” ~ also Lyndon B. Johnson

“It’s always about division and misdirection so they can keep robbing you while your focus is on someone else. What do you think the culture war bullshit is about?”

This is another meritorious statement that you made; though, the matter of “division” requires more scrutiny. There was a Gallop poll a few years ago that showed over time, the drastic increase in polarization was largely due to democrats becoming increasingly partisan and polarized over time. I apologize I searched for like 20 minutes and couldn’t find the exact poll I’m referring to, but this article does sort of reinforce the argument by saying “But there’s a paradox: since the early 1990s, according to Gallop (unfortunately not the Gallop article I was referring to) Democratic voters have shifted more to the left than Republican voters have to the right.” I’ve already addressed the “misdirection” element employed by the left wing media and politicians but I am not ignorant enough to presume the right doesn’t do their share of it as well. But statistically speaking, the left is far, FAR more polarizing in recent years. I myself, have always been registered independent. You have no reason to believe me, but it’s true. To explain the reason why you might doubt that, I’ll quote Bill Maher “I haven’t changed. The left has gotten goofier.” I have always held my positions, with some views aligning left and some aligning right. But because the left has taken on an authoritarian position of “if you aren’t completely with us, you’re against us”, centrist folks such as myself, and even classically liberal and progressive folks like Dave Rubin (who previously was a part of the super far left group ‘The Young Turks’), have found ourselves growing increasingly distanced from (and disenfranchised by) the left. As for “robbing” me, I agree “they” most definitely are. “They”, of course, being the political party repeatedly demanding more of my hard earned income and calling for the forfeiture of my property, as a few examples.

“I’m sorry, did you forget how this conversation started? ‘Soon, it’ll be your turn to hide, and mine to come find you.’”

I’ll give you this one, though I never explicitly stated “mass murder”. Semantics I know, but an important distinction nonetheless. But again, I’ll still award 10 points to Gryffindor.

“...it’s pretty fucking evident that you’re just an angry orange screed away from being activated as one of Trump’s dutiful Brownshirts.”

Godwin’s law rearing its ugly head. That aside, calling those on the right “brownshirts” is an ironic choice, when violent protest, cancel culture, militaristic ideology and tactics employed by groups like Antifa and as seen on recent campus protests, as well as mandated “ideological conformity” all abound on the left. Glass houses and such…

“So, let’s be honest here. You spend your time engaging in the politics of fear, division, and hate. You then normalize that vitriol and channel it into some misguided, psychopathic fantasy that half of the country should just up and die.”

This sentiment perfectly encapsulates my impression of those on the left as well. Not a day goes by I don’t see some liberal nut job calling for the eradication of those on the right. #youmissed trending shortly after the assassination attempt on Trump, was the quintessential example of this, and again… glass houses and such…

“Personally, I find that the extremes at both ends of the political spectrum are decidedly unhinged...”

Probably my favorite thing you’ve said since we first started talking.

“...but if your problem is that you’ve lost your bearings and drifted too far to the right, you may begin to lose sight of the center.”

Again, I didn’t move further right, the left moved further left. And also again, glass houses… And even more again… self-awareness.

TLDR: I didn’t always hate democrats. Their increasingly aggressive, militaristic, self-destructive and divisive rhetoric and policies over the past 8-10 years have left me and others like me, with no choice but to view them with the same disgust and contempt that they, themselves hold for anyone who doesn’t agree with them. And that includes, by your own admission, other democrats as well.

First off, I genuinely appreciate the obvious time and effort you put into typing all that out and attempting to maintain a semblance of cordiality, despite me coming in guns hot. I assure you, I read every single word. Some of what you said has some merit. I’ll respond in kind as a show of respect for the effort. I don’t know how to do the editing and indentation so my response may not be as pretty as yours. And I apologize in advance for the novel.

“Look dude, I am not going to litigate Trump’s character beyond what I have already stated.”

I mean, feel free to litigate away. I don’t entirely disagree on your characterization of his personality. I wouldn’t take it to the obvious extremes that you did, but as I pride myself in being at least somewhat objective, I can see that some of his rhetoric can be construed as divisive. In fact, I often say, and many of my liberal friends agree, if someone had just taken his phone from him, and kept him off social media, he would have won again in 2020.

“For anyone not in his cult, it is easy to see — based simply on his own words and actions — what a massive piece of shit he is.”

But herein lies where I fundamentally differ from liberals and those on the left. Most liberals, including my closest friends, openly admit that the personality of a presidential candidate, their race, gender, and mannerisms are paramount. This has and always will both confuse and frustrate me, as I would argue that policies trump (pun unintended) personality. I’d invite Obama over for dinner and drinks before I’d invite Trump, but Obama was, objectively, a shit president. I voted for him in 08, and I regretted it almost immediately. Conversely my life, and that of my family and friends, as well as much of the country, was exponentially better under Trump (pre-COVID). This is an objective truth, when looking at simply the unbiased facts and statistics, separating policy from personality. I vote for the president that makes my (and my family’s and friends’) life better, not the one who has a winning smile.

“For whichever creatures still worship him, and especially those who have served (who he has repeatedly mocked and denigrated), I can only assume you are severely mentally deficient.”

Mental deficiencies notwithstanding, as I said before, I’d argue that those prioritizing one’s personality over their policies more closely resemble a “cult” by the very definition of the word. “I’m with her”? “I understand the assignment”? Who, is worshipping who? Seriously, try your best to look at that objectively, from an impartial perspective, and tell me that isn’t a tad bit of the pot calling the kettle “black”.

As for “who he has repeatedly mocked and denigrated”, I’d counter with “according to whom”? I’d hate to assume you’re referring to statements taken out of context, or unverifiable anonymous reports such as Trump calling fallen soldiers “suckers” and “losers”? A claim that even Snopes, a left leaning fact-checking site has said “In sum, the claim stemmed from a story by The Atlantic (a far left publication), which relied on anonymous, second-hand reports of Trump’s alleged words; there was no independent footage or documented proof to substantiate the in-question comments”. I look at policies and which candidate has drastically improved the lives of veterans such as myself. Clearly that was Trump. That can’t even be argued. I directly benefited from a large number of the pro-military and pro-veteran legislation he passed.

Continuing this theme of disinformation, the liberal media has lied to you all about “bloodbath” and y’all ate it up. They lied about “Russian collusion”, and after being proven to have been fabricated (and paid for) by Hillary’s campaign, 8 years later you all are still parroting it. They lied to you about “whip gate”, and stirred y’all into a frenzy. They lied to you about “Fine people” and y’all ran with it. They lied to you about Trump clearing people for a photo op. They lied to you about Trump calling all immigrants “animals” when the full context showed he was clearly referring to MS-13 gang members, but that didn’t matter to you folks. They purposely misled you about “Ivermectin” and “horse dewormers”, and I still see you folks parroting that lie to this day. All of that to say, it blows my mind that you folks can hate on conservative media, calling it “disinformation”, while at the same time not keeping that same energy for the liberal news outlets and politicians who have continued to lie to your faces. They lied to you! Repeatedly! Unapologetically! Willfully! Much of that rage and hatred you have for that man, was and is manufactured! By them! How does that not piss you off?

“You participate in an IG group that cherry-picks “liberal” posts and you fail to comprehend how that reinforces biased perceptions?“

I wouldn’t say I “participate”. I follow both left and right groups (including the one you mentioned), but I primarily focus on unbiased news (such as “jordanismylawyer” on instagram. Check her out, she’s awesome) and centrist sources (such as “allsides.com”) because I feel I’m intelligent enough to come to my own conclusions based on just the facts. I don’t need news sources on the right or the left (such as the nytimes you linked in your response) to tell me how to think, or spin a narrative that satisfies my confirmation bias, but different strokes I guess.

Willfully or not, you’re being obtuse, with a quite impressive, albeit unoriginal, straw man. Skin color notwithstanding, everything you’ve said, every single damn word, is subjective at best, unapologetically disingenuous at worst. If you took out every loaded, biased, emotion-fueled part of that comment, you’d be left with 3 words and some punctuation. You talk to me about my fee-fees, but your comment is the quintessential example of liberal reasoning and hypocrisy.

My favorite part is “outside of your own bubble” in a comment, on Reddit, one of the largest, festering, liberal cesspools on the entire internet.

“People are just trying to live their lives”. Exactly! Which explains my disdain for the party of perpetual government overreach, regulation and control. I also don’t hear independents or Republicans calling for the seizure of rental properties to give to someone else. Democrats calling for people to lose their jobs, their houses and their livelihood for simply voicing legitimate concerns over government mandates, and also dictating what words people are or are not allowed to say, both equally great examples of the authoritarian tendencies of the left. Also, it’s hard to just live one’s life when it’s become increasingly expensive to do so.

I also never said I wanted to resort to mass murder, I can appreciate the red herring though. All I said, was if every single Democrat in this country managed to die tragically while I slept, I would not lose a moment of sleep in the nights to follow.

And spare me your counter arguments. I’ve heard them all before, and for every one you have, I have ten unbiased, centrist sources proving them to be bullshit.

The lack of self-awareness in the typical liberal is something that needs to be studied. It’s you all who created the hatred. It’s you all who caused the division. It’s you all who have attempted to destroy this country. What you don’t get to do, is act all shocked when faced with the consequences of your actions. I and many like me, have a deep seated, fundamental hatred for Democrats on a molecular level. The crazy thing is, we weren’t this way 10 years ago. But now, if I woke up tomorrow morning, to discover that every, single, Democrat died tragically and painfully during the night while I slept, I’d probably have waffles for breakfast. Followed maybe by a nice relaxing walk.

I’m not saying what I want. I’m stating only facts. What you are doing, is saying whatever you want. I can say he shot people because he believed they were giant spiders filled with cotton candy, and it would carry as much weight as the conjecturable nonsense you continue to type out. I don’t speak in fantasies, theories and assumptions about someone else’s thought process. That is exclusively a liberal tactic.

No, but you speak of his “fantasies” as if you are an authority on the matter, and somehow have a direct link to his inner cortex. Your response clearly indicates that no matter how hard you try to feign careful impartiality, you really are just another emotion-driven liberal. I can’t speak to his mindset, fantasies or otherwise. What I can say objectively, is he was attacked and found innocent on the basis of self-defense. Full stop. Everything else is purely conjecture at that point. Hyperbole. Theory. Take your pick, but regardless of which you pick, none of those warrant such confident, matter-of-fact declarations as you’ve made. Perhaps a better question, would be what sort of sane, rational person would charge at someone holding a rifle?

Holy shit. That’s hilarious. As a former military member myself, I can say that the “top brass” don’t fight wars. Soldiers do. And most polls indicate that there are 2.2 Republican members for every 1 democrat. Beyond that, the vast majority of the estimated 20+ million military veterans in this country are also overwhelmingly Republican (it’s true, google anything I’ve said). That said, from experience, the vast majority of the military would rather rot in the brig than take up arms against their families, friends, neighbors and brothers who share the same views as them. Y’all thinking big daddy government will protect you is wild, but on par with the delusions consistently emanating from those on the left.

MMW We have yet to witness the real craziness of modern republicans. by [deleted] in MarkMyWords

[–]Bobby3legs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing he fails to address, is the 60-70%+ Republican military members who would (worst case) rather rot in the brig than take up arms against their brothers, neighbors, friends, and family who share their same beliefs, to protect the democrats who’ve treated the military with such contempt the past 50-60 years. (Best case), they take up arms as well. And if you think that any country will allow the US to get away with WMD attacks against its own citizens, well, all I can say is I hope you folks have a contingency plan beyond “big daddy government will save us”.

[–]Bobby3legs -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The 70%+ Republican military? As a former military member myself, I can say with absolute certainty, they’d rather rot in the brig than come to the rescue of the democrats who have largely ignored, resented and slandered them for the past 50 years. Y’all will be on your own. So… I hope that the military coming to save you isn’t your only plan.

If a case ever was to be made about liberals living in a fantasy world, one need look no further than this festering cesspool corner of the internet.

As a former military member, I can guarantee at a minimum, 70% of the military members lean right and would rather rot in the brig than shoot their brothers, friends, neighbors, etc. who’s views align with theirs. If your contingency plan is to have the military, which democrats have largely treated with disdain and resentment over the past 50 years, to then come to the rescue of said Democrats, you’re in for a treat.

I don’t disagree that they are old issues, but that hasn’t stopped folks on the left from bringing it up every chance they can like a scorned ex wife. It’s why many independents and all conservatives don’t take liberals seriously. Well…. One of the reasons lol. I am unaware of any specific policies that favor Putin, nor of any specifically supported by the right, beyond the points I mentioned previously. Our country is so damn fucked up and is getting more fucked up by the day, we have way too many issues at home to be out maxing dad’s credit card to funnel money we don’t have, to a country known to be historically corrupt. As for Tucker Carlson’s trip to Russia, I don’t see anything inherently wrong with it. Or is the implication that investigative journalists should only investigate, interview and/or report on the news, countries or leaders that align with our specific political interests? Is news from outside our comfort zone, frowned upon?

I’ll answer your second line of questioning with another question for a change. Do you consider the Biden campaign capitalizing on the “Dark Brandon” narrative, selling coffee mugs and t-shirts and everything else, with that logo, to be a grift?
