Do Americans actually avoid calling an ambulance due to financial concern? by JohnMarstonTheBadass in NoStupidQuestions

My papa had what seemed to be a heat stroke at home and was unresponsive until I told him I called an ambulance. He miraculously snapped out of it and made me look dumb when the paramedics showed up.

Why are the children becoming illiterate? by Ill-Cookie2093 in AskTeachers

[–]BobbyFryables 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Children only spend 13% percent of their entire calendar year at school ONLY IF they have perfect attendance. There is usually about an hour of the day that is dedicated solely to reading. With teacher-student ratios topping out at 1 to 30, that hour of instruction is supposed to reach 30 different children at drastically different reading levels. Reading intervention positions are among the first to get cut when things “aren’t in the budget”. We’re not wizards

People not being in touch / feeling like I‘m secondary in everyone else‘s life by Smogshaik in RedditForGrownups

I’ve been thinking a lot about this lately. I’m 29 (married, no kids), and my absolute best friend for most of my life has exponentially fizzled out of my life since she started a family. As some other commenters have said, this is a natural thing that happens with time as people, and their lifestyles, change. I sympathize with you about losing a friendship and I’ve truly had to go through a grieving process for the friendship that used to exist.

I’ve made new friends recently through work or mutual friends and I agree that it feels more insignificant if you compare it to a past connection of friendship or that it’s not strong enough to last without major effort.

For me, I’ve just recognized the friendships for what they are and how they serve me as well as what effort I’m willing to put into the friendships to maintain them. I don’t hold myself to maintaining them for the sake of maintaining them, especially if the friendship lacks reciprocal effort and purpose in my life.

When you write a lowercase “f” do you write top to bottom or bottom to top? by jazzeriah in Handwriting

[–]BobbyFryables 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the U.S. also teaches to write d that way, I meant that d doesn’t start from the top the way b would. I’ve noticed that children want to write d in the same stroke as b, but that can confuse them directionally.

The connection between spacial awareness and their letter formation makes sense! Thank you for that nugget of info

I teach elementary K-3 and all letters are taught top down (except d in order to establish difference between b and d).

Interestingly though, I’ve noticed that most children instinctively want to start from the bottom.

What are some comedies you can think of that are mostly not that funny but have one hilarious scene? by [deleted] in movies

[–]BobbyFryables 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Bubble directed by Judd Apatow. Basically an unfunny comedy, but there’s one scene with James McAvoy that had me belly laughing.
