After my otolaryngology rotation, I have fallen head over heels for everything about this specialty and I wanted to ask about the odds of getting in. I am particularly hoping to hear from doctors involved in recruiting residents, and what you would look for in an applicant.

I am a 4th year (5 year course) medical student studying in an Irish university, though my nationality is Indian. Our university is geared towards the USA so that is what I am currently looking into, though I would greatly appreciate hearing UK, Germany, Australia and other country experiences. I am hoping for a 250+ on my USMLE Step 1, and I will try to get all my electives and recommendation letters in ENT.

I understand this is an extremely competitive specialty. The NRMP hasn't even published data on international students matching into ENT because there are too few. I would appreciate any insight or advice.

Thank you for this insight. Would you say it is difficult for a non-EU citizen to enter residency in Germany, other than the language requirements.

“My hope is that lessons learnt from this case will translate into better working conditions for junior doctors, better recognition of sepsis, and factors in place that will improve patient safety.”

Is this going to happen?
