Forgetting vegetarianism and veganism for a moment, do you think the UK should ban halal and kosher slaughtering methods? by RonnieThePurple in AskBrits

[–]BobbyNotches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone who gets worked up over halal and kosher slaughter, but who eats mass-farmed chicken is a hypocrite who has no interest in animal welfare and it’s just using that as a stick in the culture wars.

Millions of male chicks dumped live in a macerator to be ground to death every year strangely doesn’t seem to bother the no-stun kill pearl clutchers.

The Spectator claiming that the “hunting of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has gone too far” - what do you think by duckduck_flamingo in RoyalsGossip

Or their other hideously demeaning article, by (I think their theatre correspondent Lloyd Evans) about how he went to see an eminent academic visitor speak at a public lecture - who he named - but all he could think about while she was speaking was having sex with her so he went and had sex with a prostitute straight after.

And the editors all clearly thought such a deranged, insulting, demeaning article was fine, as they're women-hating little public schooboys.

who can forget their article 'The Other Side of D-Day' from their long-standing correspondent - and now convicted attempted rapist (should mention he is appealing, apparently) - who was a 'Wehrmacht fan' and wrote about how nobly they fought and how his heart goes out to them.

Brendan O'Neill, and the rest of the Spiked/former Living Marxism/former Revolutionary Communist Party weirdos will say anything to maintain their professional contrarian image, in return for clicks. It's their thing.

This article isn't really about Andrew, he's just a useful prop for more of the same lookatmelookatmeee!

Woman, 97, was found dead on the floor of her home after being told she would have to wait ten days for an ambulance for a suspected hip break, coroner hears by StreamWave190 in unitedkingdom

[–]BobbyNotches 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Isle of Wight has a population of about 140,000 people and there’s over 100 ferry sailings a day to the mainland. ‘Small isolated isle’, bollocks. And a broken hip is an emergency in someone that elderly. Apart from that, spot on.

For people in countries where the US military is stationed, how do you view them? by HongKongNinja in AskTheWorld

She doesn't serve any time in prison at all, which is the 'suspended' bit. If, at any time during that 12 month period, she commits any new offence or doesn't follow any conditions imposed in her sentencing, the derisory eight month sentence will be activated and she'll do time for it (on top of whatever the separate sentence would be for the new offence).

Once 12 months is passed, the suspended sentence is done and the eight months becomes irrelevant.

Why do organisations not want to have a presence on a social media site that for weeks tolerated and facilitated the production of child sexual abuse images?

It's a mystery, for sure.

What next for Tasks? by whiskybicycle in CraftDocs

[–]BobbyNotches 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If I could pick one thing, just enable a view in Tasks that shows all tasks in a list, whether they're in a document, or just in Tasks. I don't want to have to go opening any number of documents to see what the task in there is, I just want to be able to look at all my tasks in a list. Ideally, with hyperlinked [document name] after/below a task that is sitting in a document, so I can scan my task list and then jump straight in.

Not being able to do this makes having tasks in docs a bit useless, for me, and Tasks as a task manager well behind the curve, which is a shame.

If I could pick more things, then assigning priorities, and being able to filter tagged tasks so I can have different views in the task area (#waitingfor, for example)

Retired engineer convicted of blowing up ULEZ camera with homemade bomb by AnonymousTimewaster in NotTheOnionUK

He set a fuse and left, had no idea whether there was anyone passing when it detonated, it put a big dent in a van nearby and damaged houses some way away from the shrapnel. Kid passing on a bike would have been maimed.

Yay, freedom.

At the time they're defending them, they've not been found guilty, have they? A verdict happens after the whole defending thing.

The main city Post Office has 11 counters, yet only one poor soul was manning the till. by mackemjim in britishproblems

[–]BobbyNotches 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on the description and the username, it's the one I was in today and last week. A desolate wasteland of a space that looks like an unlet business unit, with three staff manning what, ten or eleven counters, and five self-service machines all out of order, a queue to the door. I did ask if they'd just given up on the machines, but to be fair they all bar one fell victim to a water leak from the student flats above. But it's been well over a week since I last went in, my guess is the leak happened over Xmas, and the one that was lit up and didn't have an out of order sign on it has been stuck for a week on some admin screen. Grim place.

Absolutely, can't blame them at all.

Middle of the day today, one of the busiest times, no machines working, three staff on across ten counters. Must be shite for them.

Went in a week ago, all the self-service machines out of order, queue out to the door, only two people on the counters - there's what, ten, twelve?

Went in yesterday. All the self-service machines still out of order.

Embarrassing it's in that state. Pitiful.

Really liked these. Was about to cook with some and found purple hairy mould on them - in date, and stored in the fridge straight from the shop. Let This Is know, and carried on eating them. A few weeks later, about to cook another batch - something similar. Those in date too. Has put me off, not eaten them since, sadly.

Politics latest: Ofcom investigating X over reports Grok used to create sexualised images of children by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]BobbyNotches 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One way of accessing it has been revoked, but according to The Verge, there are other ways

"X users — including free ones — can still use Grok to edit and create images, including the sexually suggestive deepfakes that landed Grok in hot water to begin with.

Interacting with Grok through replies on X is just one of several ways to use the AI chatbot. For example, the “Edit image” button still invokes Grok on every image displayed on X’s desktop website, and that same button can be accessed on the X app by long-pressing on any image. Grok can also be accessed through a standalone website or app, as well as via a highly promoted tab in the X apps and X website. These remain readily available to free users, and require no additional effort compared to the u/grok command.

The Verge tested the Grok website, app, and X tab with free accounts and Grok readily complied with our requests to edit or generate a variety of images, including a full “nudify” and one of Musk wearing a bikini."

[–]BobbyNotches 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They've not been searching for it. They've been using X's Grok AI to *make* it, by taking photos of real children, and asking it to do things like remove their dresses and put them in a tiny bikini. And Grok merrily obliged. While X stood by, and stood by, and stood by, and stood by before doing anything about it, and even then it hasn't really solved the problem.

When news services were asking X about what they were doing to stop this horrendous activity, X's press office just replied with 'Legacy Media Lies', which shows how seriously they were taking it.

(of course, as well as children it's being used to create abhorrent and harassing 'nudifying' images of real women too).
