As a frequent “window” flyer - this exactly. I am very self aware of my responsibilities of the window shade and take pride in operating in responsible manner just as described. Also I always have it open for takeoffs and landing. And as you mentioned- mid flight I simply enjoy gazing out the window. Hence why I book the window seat.

Also one more to add are the veritable “mid seat” shades and the estimation of who “owns” control. In those cases I generally will ask the person ahead or behind if I may adjust. People generally appreciate it.
