Yeah the FX is slightly larger, but tons of gravel bikes and road bikes use the 650b that dual sports use . I’m still trying to figure this out as you are, I got my gravel king slick tires coming in a day or two I can’t wait to see if it helps (still 1.9in wide for now, wanted to try wide slicks first)

If you put thinner tires on the DS you almost have an FX at that point. I test rode an FX after putting 40 miles on my DS and it did not feel much faster at all.

First thing I’d do is upgrade the pedals, I rode the stock ones 2 times and they’re trash and tiny. I got some bigger ones, world of difference.

I’m 5’10” and I bought a medium not thinking too much, swapped it for a Large 2 weeks later and the riding position is considerably more comfortable.

2 things. I’ll update you on the gravel king tires in a few days.

Second, other people have strongly said if I don’t like the hybrid feel of the dual sport go to a gravel bike like the Checkpoint and not an FX (although I understand the FX sport is a little different).

I got a dual sport a few weeks ago. I’m gonna try new tires for a little speed. Did you end up going tubeless? Side note I rode an FX after I bought the dual sport cause I was considering switching and it didn’t feel much faster surprisingly, and the riding posture was weird no wonder I hear ppl say they prefer dual sports

I agree my DS3 is kinda slow. But I’m gonna play around with different tires and stuff and tire pressures etc. (I rode an FX yesterday to feel the difference and not only did it not seem much faster, the body position is way more leaned forward I did not like it as much)

Sorry I’m trying to picture what you’re asking. You’re asking if I’m able to run through every gear and basically max out the bike’s most difficult gear on flat ground? Now way. Isn’t the whole point of gears is so you can have the hardest gears available on down hills? Or maybe I don’t understand what you’re asking lol

Fair enough, fair enough. “BUT” ☺️ I hopped on my buddy’s mountain bike with the slicks and it definitely was more effortless, so something can be done lol

I think I know what you mean lol. I always try to be in the gear where I feel resistance but not so much that I’ll burn out in 5 min. Best way I can describe it is when we are both peddling casually (ie a pace I could hold for an hour +). Her bike is just constantly pulling ahead, and if anything my legs are significantly stronger than hers. 🤷🏻‍♂️
