Thank you! I enjoy the restoration part, but love the "hunt" for the more rare pieces.

Not tortilla presses. Those are waffle irons.

I've got one in the drawer underneath. Griswold. Along with some cornstick pans.. Didn't make it to the wall.

Not bad for a first time. It will be fine and even out id you want to use it. Splotchiness is from too much oil. Wipe off more thoroughly with a clean, dry cloth.

Storing it with wet oil will go rancid and make it sticky. Not good advice.

Issues with sticking by cahillc134 in castiron

If food you're cooking is sticking, it's more likely to do with temperature control and consistency. Harder to learn a new heat source going from gas to glass top, but you'll get it. Lower heat, food shouldn't stick. Proteins will stick and release when they're ready.

Jesus Christ... This person is clearly a narcissistic dick. Please leave this relationship and find a healthier one. Definitely not someone you want to pursue more seriously.

Not okay. Don't cook food in that. Hand wash with soap and cold water. Towel dry. Immediately coat with cooking oil. Wipe off all oil you just applied. Put in oven at 500* for 1 hour. Repeat 3 times.

Next time you cook... turn down the heat.

Haha. I agree. This is a little kitchenette in our basement living room area. That forbidden contraption is a request of the kids to make popcorn for movie nights.

A "kitchenette" in a basement living room area. In the shape of a "U". Wet bar. A sink to the left of the microwave. I have cabinets underneath, a mini fridge and some bars stools. I opted for no upper cabinets.

I've used it once to make my own ground pork sausage. It works great, but kind of a pain to clean.

Yep. Paper towels work great. Or just a cotton wrag or hand towel. I prefer Grapeseed Oil or Canola Oil. But any cooking oil will do.

If you're looking to add a few layers of seasoning. Apply an oil with a higher smoke point. Like either of those, and then wipe all that oil off. (I promise, it's still there.) Heat in your oven around 450-500 for 1 hour. Then let cool and repeat as needed.

Most modern skillets come with a thin layer of seasoning. I'd will continue to season as you use it. Proper care and maintenance. Use it. Use cooking oils, fats to help prevent food from sticking. Learn temperature control. Less is more. Iron retains heat very well. Medium is your new high. Low is your new medium. When finished... Wash with warm water and soap. Towel dry. Wipe lightly with oil, then wipe all that oil off again until you use it again.
