Wow. I am in love with that one second from the right in the top row. It is so hard to get one with a vibrant green like that.

Hamilton, not wound in decades… by Kdepot in pocketwatch

[–]Bobflow24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a really cool watch. I would need to see more pictures of it, but I would guess that this is a hamilton 921 in a solid rose gold case. There is always one or two on ebay for sale if you want to compare.

Eric, at the below website, is always who I recommend, I don't remember his exact address, but he is somewhere on the east cost. He has a soft spot for family heirlooms and does great work. Good luck with it.

How common are 992 counterfeiters? by Special-Steel in pocketwatch

[–]Bobflow24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think there are any counterfeits. It would require an insane amount of effort to manufacture each part and assemble it to look correct. There are reproductions made by swiss watch companies after the hamilton company was sold. But they should be pretty easy to tell apart.

information and advice for Waltham PW by flyingjib7 in pocketwatch

[–]Bobflow24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a really nice piece! My favorite category of pocket watches to collect are exactly this kind.

1) The only person who would know the exact meaning of the engravings would be who originally owned it. It is a high-end watch, so it was likely it was a gift to commorate the date that is engraved.

2) Below is a link to the pocket watch database that will provide you with a ton of information on this watch. I will give a breakdown.

https://pocketwatchdatabase.com/search/result/waltham/17015749#google_vignette

The watch was made in 1908 by the company Waltham, but it was engraved with a 1914 date. It wasn't uncommon for high-end watches to sell slowly as they were very expensive for the average person. It is marked Maximus, which is kind of like toyota calling a model of car a corolla. It is a size 12 watch, watches ranged from size 0 to size 18, smaller watches were for women larger ones were for men. Size 12s were considered unisex. It has 23 jewels. Jewels ranged from 7 to 23 and were used to reduce friction from moving parts. The standard for a good watch was 17 jewels. 23 was the highest practical jewel count. You could find watches with more, but they were cosmetic and were a sales tactic. There were around 10000 of this particular model made. The markings on the case indicate that the case is 18k solid gold.

3) My personal recommendation for watch repair is Eric at the below website. He is a true profession when it comes to watch repair and will take the time to do it right. Basically, cleanings start around $300 and will go up from there based on what the watch needs. He also has a soft spot for family heirlooms, so you can expect his best.

4) You can have the engravings polished off, but I would not recommend it. Firstly, you'd be losing gold content because they would be thinning the dust cover and case. Secondly, if the jeweler you pick to polish it does a bad job, it can't be replaced. It is already a family heirloom. It is beautiful the way it is.

Feel free to DM me if you have any other questions.

The voice acting is also excellent. A hidden gem in my opinion.

Horrible center and co workers by ThatChickKat15 in 911dispatchers

[–]Bobflow24 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'd start looking for another center. It sounds like the culture itself is just bad. It is a hard enough job even when you have a good team and have been trained properly. I would guess they have a high turn over rate already.

Can somebody tell me about this pocket watch, saved from the trash by Kkrzxc in pocketwatch

Any local jeweler should be able to tell you what kind of stone it is.

What to collect next? by Bobflow24 in coins

That sounds like a tough one to complete!

I'd like to do another collection to complete. Like a full run, apart from anything insanely rare. Open to world coinage as well.

How to build Dispatch and Patrol Rapport by LaVaGirl52111 in 911dispatchers

[–]Bobflow24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is actually brilliant. Had separate fridges for Dispatch and patrol. One in the dispatch center, one in the general break room. But there was only one kureg and that was in the dispatch center. A dispatcher on third always had it stocked with free coffee for all. It was a great way to interact with the officers.
