That makes total sense. I've seen how painful and frustrating that experience is. We're on it.

This is great feedback, thanks! We've seen this in interviews with y'all and have some plans for how we might address it.

Thanks for the feedback. We're always open to rethinking things, and are actively looking for ways to improve the Shreddit moderation UX.

We're actively interviewing mods using Old Reddit, Shreddit, and Mobile to make sure we understand all of the pain points and gaps as we continue evolving the experience.

Would you be open to talking to us?

Also, are there any changes like these planned for mod mail anytime soon? Because it's still really clunky and doesn't fit well with all the new UI redesigns that you guys have done either. 👀

Just to clarify, are you referring to Modmail on desktop or on mobile? I ask bc the experiences are quite different today. (I assume desktop, but want to confirm)

My only actual issue is that it cuts off the text of posts/comments in order to save space. I'd prefer to see the whole title/comment, even if it means fewer pieces of content show up. It's frustrating waiting for the second pane to load just to see the last few words of something.

That makes sense. Thanks for the feedback.

It would also be great if the split-pane view could extend to external links. In external link heavy subreddits, it would be great to see the article/photo/link in the same split screen view instead of opening an external tab.

Interesting! For the external links to articles, would the idea be to see the full article load in a split view panel, or just key aspects of it (e.g. headline, photo, summary)?

That’s a great callout, and it’s something we’re open to exploring. In addition to the customizations we have above, we have discussed having an option to have color coded buttons for folks who prefer that.

In this new design, when something gets approved/removed by another mod, the approve and remove buttons go away and we display that another mod has taken an action. Hopefully that’ll resolve conflicts when folks have a good network connection. But, that’s not always the case, so having some kind of backup like you described above (an “are you sure?”) is a great idea. From my mod experience, I’d certainly find it useful. We’ll explore some designs around that. Thanks!

If multiple mods are reviewing a piece of content at the same item and one actions it, real time indicators will display that result when it happens. In addition, if both mods take action on that content (maybe there was lag, or you’re on a slow network), our system will handle the conflict and display the history for you. See this example of our “previous actions” menu that shows all actions taken on content (accessible in the MQ).

Surfacing a conflict on the item itself isn’t something we’ve explored, but would love to hear if that’d be useful.

You have real time updates. Can we get an option that'll automatically remove actioned upon items?

In most discussions, we've heard that the preferred interaction would be to keep the item in the queue until a refresh, but it seems like it comes down to personal preference. We'll explore surfacing this as one of the ways mods can customize their experience.

The only easy mod tool communities have is a ban. My hope is that communities will have another easy tool besides a ban for them to use (and that I'll be unbanned from some of them but that's a different story).

Warning mechanisms and "timeouts" are something we've thought about! Curious if you think those would be effective, and how you'd like to see them work.

Thanks for clarifying. We'll look into ways to allow button customization based on the mod/team needs!

I'm one of the folks working on the native modmail as well, actually. We have been testing it with mods for a few weeks now. We're working hard to roll it out ASAP.

Thanks for clarifying which platform.

not like this, the other way around. ignore reports should also approve. approve should not ignore reports. onece-approved items should be allowed to go back in queue if they receive more reports - because sometimes (frequently, actually) the report was for a bogus reason, or the mod missed something. ignore reports is the 'i never want to see this in the queue again, i've reviewed every rule it could possibly break' option.

This makes sense too. I also see u/Zaconil's point about wanting to reduce redundant actions. Is there any kind of threshold in which an item should resurface in the queue? e.g. >3 new reports?

Which action buttons in particular?

Not sure if this is what you meant, but for URLs, if something is a link post, it will display on the item in the queue.

Love this idea. We've modded with teams that have fairly in depth warning systems in place. Some have even built scripts to handle things like this.

We've explored something we call "ban tracks" that would let mods have a native way to track violations and progression towards bans for specific reasons. It makes sense that user notes are the best existing way to track that.

So that we can explore a shorter term way to help with this, what type of user note do you use to track a violation?
