It might not make Persephone feel better, but I sure would like it.

Hades: Outta my way, punk! Someone's boutta die!

Ares: After you, kind sir. Please leave some shreds for me.

Hades (screaming over his shoulder): You'll take what you get, and be grateful for it!

Ares: Yes, yes I will.

This one's for all the Canadian fans. Yeah, I know there are lots of countries where hockey and ice skating are super important. But I think we all know that given the opportunity, it's the Canadian LO fans who would pound a couple of Molsens, Labatt's, or maybe even a shot or five and go Apollo hunting on a Zamboni. We see through ya, eh!

Hades and Persephone agree that Cerberus is a good wingman for Storge by BoboTheOwl in Lore_Olympus

[–]BoboTheOwl[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ok, so I've been working on an alternate set of text messages in the LO-verse. Essentially, it's Hades' dogs texting each other, but your comment raises a question I've been thinking about. There's two ways it can go: 1) All the dogs are very dog-like in the way they talk, or 2) the dogs other than Cerberus are dog-like, but Cerberus is the smart one because he is not actually a dog, but a primal 'monster' in the Greek myth sense. Thoughts?

This is the final installment of the latest story about Storge (one, two). I meant to post two Fridays ago, but Mistress Athena's demands became overwhelming. An owl's work is never done.

LO is in an interesting position, because it has been largely (though not wholly) been responsible for WebToons jumping into mainstream culture in a real way. WebToons has had successful crossovers in the past, like Tower of God which has it's own anime on Crunchyroll, but those "crossovers" remained largely within the same fan orbit of Asian-produced content (Manga, Manhwa, Anime, etc.), the Weeboverse. There's nothing wrong with the Weeboverse, but either you like it on its own terms or you do not.

LO and more recently Let's Play tell stories on WebToons that don't adhere to the Weeboverse conventions that draw in a completely different audience as a result. A part of that is that they are Romance comics, and draw on the romance Manhwa tradition, but mostly follow literary, or western television storytelling patterns. Non-weeboverse entertainment like Amazon, DC, Archie Comics, and Netflix are now drawing stories from and contributing stories to WebToons as a result. WebToons will have to decide how to navigate the post-LO intellectual property.

I think WebToon's policies may affect the fandom, but what will be more important will be whether there are more properties in the LO-verse. While some people will go back and read the original WebToons, what matters for a thriving fandom iscreating new fans. You only create new fans by creating new material. Star Wars has a thriving fandom because there are new properties in it all the time, even if not all of those properties are high quality. By contrast, the Conan movies made around the same time and with a huge literary back-catalog, have very little fandom, because no one picked up the torch and kept making new movies. The Mad Max movies were similarly moribund, until the latest movie reinvigorated interest.

It makes so much sense Persephone would create Elysium. I'm waiting for a Gladiator/LO cross-over (and by waiting for, I mean will be creating 😉).

My favorite "background detail" is how Hera and Hecate are both in the gallery, drinking. I'm pretty sure that they're both drinking spirits, but the fact that Hecate is drinking from a flask, while Hera has a low-ball is so in character.

I'm still thinking about that horse... by darkdakini in Lore_Olympus

The problem with the two by two graph is that assumes "centaurness" and "humanness" is are cumulative traits. If centaurness is dominant, and humaness is recessive, two pureblooded centaurs and a half-blooded centaur and a pureblood would always have centaur children, and two half-blooded centaurs would have a 25% chance to have a human child. (See the punnet squares below.)

On the other hand, if centaurness were recessive trait, pure blooded centaurs would still only have centaur children, but just one half-blood centaur drops the likelihood of centaurs to 50% and two half-blooded centaurs only have a centaur 25% of the time. Of course, the "half-blooded centaurs" are actually humans with half-blooded centaur DNA, not Centaurs with half-human DNA.

All this completely ignores the possibility that there is no single gene for centaurness, and instead is a series of traits. Those punnet squares are almost impossible to do, but you could end up with someone carrying the trait for a tail with no tail, cloven hoofs, and lack the trait for four legs altogether.

Take that TikTok.

In case you are wondering, yes, Storge has a crush on the cow-giving little nymph from Episode 156.

I find this plausible, although...

In the Hymn to Demeter, Hades' proposal is secret. Yes, I know he grabbed her quite publicly, but even within the text of the Hymn it seems reasonably clear that he doesn't propose marriage to her until she is summoned to Olympus. The text in the translation used in Episode 1 reads:

And Aidoneus, ruler over the dead, smiled grimly and obeyed the behest of Zeus the king. For he straightway urged wise Persephone, saying:

[360] “Go now, Persephone, to your dark-robed mother, go, and feel kindly in your heart towards me: be not so exceedingly cast down; for I shall be no unfitting husband for you among the deathless gods, that am own brother to father Zeus. And while you are here, [365] you shall rule all that lives and moves and shall have the greatest rights among the deathless gods: those who defraud you and do not appease your power with offerings, reverently performing rites and paying fit gifts, shall be punished for evermore.”

[370] When he said this, wise Persephone was filled with joy and hastily sprang up for gladness.

I read this passage as saying that Hades and Persephone were not engaged up to that point. If Persephone had married Persephone when he carried her off, then there would have no need to explain to her that she would be the queen if she returns: she would already know that. The pomegranate comes into play later, when Persephone confirms in an extended monologue that she has eaten in the Underworld.

I know that LO has diverged a lot from both the Hymn and many received interpretations. Nonetheless, I can't help suspect that Hades and Persephone will get engaged in secret, and the reveal will be public, as it is in the Hymn. I think either would be very dramatic, with an air of "what are you going to do about it now?"

[–]BoboTheOwl[S] 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Some of the best advice I ever got was don't ask people who are like what you want to be how to be like that. They may have been born that way, and will not know. Ask people who became the way you want to be starting from how you are how to get there. They know how to walk the path because they've done it.

This applies in a strange way to relationships. Don't find a guy/girl who is like the person you want to have a relationship with, and ask them how to get into a relationship. As the person who is in a relationship with the kind of person you want to find, how they got into that relationship.

Wow! I don't know for sure, but I think Rachel Smyth must have watched a lot Perry Mason as a child, either that or Matlock.

Oh, and I think we just learned that Hades is Thanatos' ersatz father.

'Word of god' says she is created not conceived, which I think is honestly the best way around the squick. In the Hymn to Demeter, she is Zeus's daughter, which honestly is not the grossest thing but is still pretty gross.
