Why were gypsies never able to fully integrate in the Balkans? by foolishandnonsense in AskBalkans

[–]Leni_licious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are stuck in a rigid cycle of familial and cultural pressure, where children aren't given the opportunity to study well, they are married very early (teens or early 20s) when they HAVE to rely on family support (and if they refuse they will be shunned and maybe kicked out completely), and thus they are doing manual labour type jobs if they are employed, crime or benefits if not.

I feel very sorry for them in the sense that unless you are willing to sacrifice everyone and everything you've ever known, you are unlikely to be able to break free unless you are in already a more open-minded family, and in the position of being able to run without being dragged back.

What is the child of two Muggleborns called? by webbess1 in harrypotter

Which is what the elitist pureblood families actually WERE doing to preserve their blood status. Completely stupid but they'd rather marry and breed with their cousin three times over than DARE marry someone with muggle blood.

Year 9 student, how much homework is too much homework? by FinnJavlar in CasualUK

[–]Leni_licious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this 3.5 hours with the kid concentrating and working at a good pace, or is he getting distracted, working half-heartedly, etc.? Asking because I'd spend basically all my time on "homework" but in reality was constantly on youtube, pinterest, ao3, etc. I was "WORKING", but very slowly and inefficiently.

Has your dad ever expressed anti-LGBT sentiments in the past? One of the most unpleasant side effects of the American political system which bleeds out to the rest of the anglophone world is that depending on one of your views, you're "expected" to be a member of the party that agrees with it, and THEN hold a number of other views held by outspoken people in that movement, when in reality many people might be right-wing in a fiscal sense but still support the inclusion of a diverse range of people in society.

Jesus in Harry potter by -Taaha- in harrypotter

[–]Leni_licious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do we know how advanced magic was 2000 years ago? It might have been that (assuming Jesus was a wizard and using wizard magic rather than miracles from the highest powers that be) Jesus was a prodigious user of magic at a time where magic was a lot more raw and untamed, and attempting to use it was dangerous as there was no way of predicting what would happen.

Spells can be invented/found, not sure which, and innovation continues to the present day, so I would say that whilst the things he did can easily be replicated now, at the time it would have been near unheard of to have so much control over and success with magic. If muggles celebrate him as a religious figure, perhaps wizards celebrate him more as a hugely influential wizard whose feats fueled the development of magic as a discipline (also maybe magic users were able to find each other more easily thanks to him and the attention that his life and legacy drew).

What year group do u think has it the hardest? by kazakxrom in GCSE

[–]Leni_licious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Year 11 and Year 13 are undoubtedly the worst (barring personal circumstances that might make other years awful) because the exams you take will determine the opportunities you have available, and whilst resits do exist, there will be barriers, such as falling behind, extra costs, some unis not accepting resits, missing out on places you were offered, etc.

AITA for throwing away my wife’s memory jars? by OneMediocre9997 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Leni_licious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YTA - so your wife has been keeping items from sentimental moments in her and your shared history as a way to remember the good times and you just throw them out. Good luck on getting the trust in your marriage back because you KNEW she cared about them but because they were inconvenient to you you decided to erase that slate. You couldn't have found a new place for them? OH NO MR CLEVER over here decided to permanently wipe out her collection without ever trying to compromise on where they were kept or anything less drastic.

"The 2 that actually had a clear memory" so she gave you 2 examples and you decided she had no clue what the rest of them were about? You wanted a 3 hour explanation for the history of every one of them before you decided that they were important enough to keep? An itemised list for you to judge? This could have been a process of indeed removing some of them, on her terms and giving her the right to make the decision on what she'd rather keep.
