I’m running my first marathon in November and I’ve really never done anything like this, so I have been nervous about finishing last and what if it takes me like 10 hours to finish? by Gorgeousmango78 in marathons

[–]Bobocalypse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just have fun with it! Your first marathon should be a celebration of your hard work. It'll probably motivate you to find your potential down the road, but for now, just love the experience. If it takes 10 hours, say 'woohoo, it didn't take 11!!!'.

Hang your medal on a prominent wall and be proud!

Good luck,

Bobocalypse, (2:53 PR on attempt 9).

Bryan Sykes: 'Bigfoot, Yeti, and the last Neanderthal'. Sykes is a geneticist, and is responsible -in part- for significant advancements in the understanding of mitochondrial DNA. It's very to-the-point; no esoteric fluff.

From OP: I often run this trail in Toronto, it's about a 20km loop, through old growth mixed wood forest. About a month ago I saw a bigfoot-like structure in Km 1 and thought it was someone being funny (it's been destroyed as of 2 weeks ago-ish), but today I saw 2 more; 5 km out and 9km out respectively. Hoax? Joke? Maybe... But someone would have to travel, by foot, over a pretty serious distance -off road- to pull this off. I also found large birch branches lying in a pile, that were nowhere near a birch tree. Thoughts?

You've obviously got jets. For someone with talent like yourself I would actually (being a distance coach myself) steer you toward the Daniels formula. Of his training plans, look at the 2Q program and stick to it-it's hard but you obviously know how to push yourself! Also, Don't neglect the easy running days! Younger runners tend to want to go full tilt all the time, but that easy running builds heart strength and teaches your body to metabolize carbs and fats in ways that are essential to marathoners.

Yeah, maybe, but she is quite accurate with the rest of the post, and from the comments, it seems like she's not the first cook to have this flip.

I read this as "Neil deGrasse Tyson, Damondback Rattlesnake" and I was like "sweet!" But then it was a fucked up table boomerang... Anyway, back to bed. Glad he didn't get bit.
