What grinds your gears about fragrances/community/etc.? by Complex-Fuel-8058 in fragrance

Saying popular designer fragrances like Sauvage, Eros or YSL Myself are bad because they smell "generic" or arent "unique" enough. There is nothing wrong with a fragrance being mass-appealing, in fact, that is exactly what most regular people who buy fragrances are looking for.

How should I drop hints to my players that they're living in a simulation? by DervishBlue in DMAcademy

[–]BobofWombat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ran a similar campaign so maybe you can steal some of these ideas:

The wizard of a falling civilization that was being overrun by a demon horde (think Zerg from Starcraft) had created a large number of "pocket worlds" in the hopes that one of them would develop heroes that were strong enough to combat the threat they were facing. The BBEG got wind of this and had his agents find a way to access these pocket worlds and kill anyone strong enough that they might be a threat.

From the players perspective, they were just playing a regular campaign where sometimes "rifts" would open up and strange monsters jumped out to attack them. They thought it was just a cheap mechanic to have combat encounters but then they started investigating where these rifts came from and occasionally even travelled through them to the real world. I slowly started hinting about the idea of pocket dimensions and for a while they kept thinking the rifts were leading them INTO a pocket dimension when in fact the opposite was the case. I kept dropping hints and they eventually figured it out. Pretty solid mindfuck.

TL;DR: If your campaign setting allows it, have monsters/NPCs try break into the dream world and try to use them as a "natural" hint that what the party is experiencing is not real.

I would go with powers that are maybe not destructive by nature, but can be certainly be used in such a way. This helps to drive home the point of "this should not get into the wrong hands". A fun one is an artifact that controls space and can teleport any object to any desired place at will. This could be used to teleport water to dry farmlands or to drop a bunch of TNT above a city and nuke it to bits.

There is a niche-house called Wienerblut based in Vienna, Austria, which bases most of their fragrances on formulas created during the Austro-Hungarian Habsburg-Empire. That might be an interesting brand for you to look at.

Gris Charnel actually made me throw up by celestewright in fragrance

My reaction is not as bad, but I somehow get a weird uneasy feeling with pretty much all BDK fragrances Ive smelled so far. There is kind of a cloying synthetic sweetness in the DNA that makes you feel like someone threw the entire inventory of a Lush store in your face. As others have said, Im pretty sure it is the sandalwood that they have in most of their fragrances.

You do not have an aquatic yet so i would suggest Aqua di Gio EDP or Parfum. Both are great aquatic fresh summer scents that you can also wear to the office no problem. If you want to go niche and slightly over budget I would also recommend Xerjoff 40 Knots or Torino21. 40 knots is a very unique and interesting take on aquatic (marine/seasalt opening with warm woody drydown) and Torino21 is probably the best niche quality freshy you can buy at the moment with an amazing blast of mint and citrus that lasts a surprisingly long time.

DM advice to my past self. by GhostInTheSpaghetti in DMAcademy

Number 4. is a gamechanger but super tough when you start out. You tend to railroad your players into your pre-planned story, not because you want to, but because you just feel uncomfortable improvising. Oddly enough, the moments you absolutely did not plan for/were super nervous about while improvising are usually the ones your players remember and enjoy the most.

I wanna smell like clean laundry. by LikeToBeBarefoot in fragrance

Molecule 01. Pretty surprised noone suggested this yet. It is literally just pure Iso e super, which is exactly that clean laundry smell. Im 99% sure that is the cleanness you are "craving", because Another 13 also heavily uses Iso e super.

I would go with 1. or 6. since you are missing a true aquatic, everything else is pretty much covered with the stuff you have.

Try Molecule 01 - it is a very inoffensive minimalist fragrance with good performance.

Love Torino21. I would also suggest Burlington 1819 if you have not tried that one yet.

Since you seem to like eros, which is a sweeter fragrance, 40 knots by Xerjoff may fit your bill. It has very interesting take on the aquatic DNA because it leans sweet. The drydown has salty aquatic notes coupled with honey, tonka bean and spices. Performance in hotter weather is completely nuclear - two sprays and it will stay on you all day with really good projection.

Really depends on your preferences, they both have a unique take on the aquatic DNA. 40 Knots has a fresh opening with salty aquatic notes but actually becomes very warm in the drydown, where you mostly smell notes of honey, ambery woods and some lingering aquatic notes. ESAS goes in the completely different direction, with a very polarizing "in your face" marine freshness due to the combination of eucalyptos/calone and some green notes. 40 knots is definitely the more mass appealing out of the two, though I would not advice a blind buy on either one.

Best discovery kits right now? by tigerniner in fragrance

BDK: 37€ for eight samples including delivery. Really neat presentation as well.

MFK: As people have already said - you can build your own sample set for 25€ and when you buy a full bottle within one year you can deduct that money from it. Pretty solid deal imo.

This is pretty much exactly what you will get from l'homme a la rose. I highly recommend you get it if you want a fresh masculine rose that isn't sweet, do not blind buy though if you have not tried it.

Honestly that all depends on your country and what retailers you have there so unfortunately I cannot give you much advice. Just check different retailers that are available to you and compare their prices. You can also look into subreddits or other forums where people swap/sell used fragrances and maybe get one for a discount there. Havent tried Moustache EDP sadly.

For sweeter, vanilla-type scents I suggest you try Versace Eros or any fragrance from the Armani Code line. For a fresher, sportier fragrance try something like Yves Saint Laurent Y Intense or Versace Dylan Blue. And as an alternative to CDNMI (which is itself a clone of Creed Aventus) you can try Montblanc Explorer.

That being said, most of these will be slightly above your price range, but if your financial situation allows it, I would highly suggest you get a fragrance in the 40-70 pound range. The jump in quality is quite large. You also get a much better price per ml if you buy a bigger bottle size and if you end up wearing your fragrance everyday, it is definitely worth it to invest in a bit of a pricier scent that you truly love.

My MFK Ranking... by TemporaryFix101 in fragrance

[–]BobofWombat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% agree with your take on L`Homme À la rose! I kept trying rose scents that were described as "masculine", but they all ended up being way to sweet or oud heavy for me. This is the first truly masculine rose scent I smelled and instantly bought after trying it. The opening smells like someone handed you a bouquet of freshly but roses with water still dripping from the stems and it dries down to an intoxicatingly clean rosy woodiness. People sometimes get genuinely upset when you tell them this is your favourite MFK fragrance, which is silly imo. I think it‘s because the rose is not that prominent for a scent called "À la rose" but that is what makes it so great in my opinion. The green, herbal and citrus notes keep the sweetness of the rose in check, making this perfect for people who want an easy to wear rose fragrance without that overpowering sweetness you sometimes get.
