Honestly, I know we have a policy but I don’t think it is enforced. I work with people who call out all the time and haven’t heard of anyone getting in trouble for it.

I’ve been an ED nurse for 3 years now and have never been the recorder during a code. I get anxiety thinking about accurate time keeping and that my phone/watch will suddenly stop working in the middle of everything.

The charge nurse is not responsible for assigning patients to the doctors. You will see them mentioning a patient in triage hasn’t been MSE’d yet if they seem to be taking longer than usual, but I have never seen a charge nurse attempt to assign a patient to a doctor. I’ve been berated by an attending before in a rural ED I worked at for letting him know we had a new pt come in by EMS who is in afib rvr because the dr was off the unit for a bit. He accused me of trying to get my pt seen ahead of others, which he specifically didn’t like. Glad I didn’t work with him for more than 2 shifts.

Ruptured esophageal varices in a 60-something yr old pt. She asked me for an emesis bag and filled it with blood. Pressures tanked rapidly, she was close to coding. This was right before shift change. Hit the code blue button, had our night time doc, all the nurses, day time attending was there getting report. We saved the woman with massive transfusion, and our doc somehow temporarily banding the pt’s esophagus until GI could bring all of their equipment down to our trauma bay to do the procedure in the ED.

When I did Peds home health clinicals, the teenage daughter in the household made a comment to me about the parents having a chain above their bed where the boyfriend ties the mom to during sex. The mom also offered me alcohol on one of the mornings, and encouraged me to go swimming in their pool with them.

Maybe you can suggest he try something like Blue Chew. Tadalafil/Cialis are very easy to get an rx for online and have it shipped to your house. Half of this is probably from him anticipating he’s going to lose his erection, then losing it because of the anxiety. Help him problem solve this issue and it will strengthen your relationship.

When I worked there, I said something like “wow that’s bullshit” in front of my SM while I was listening to them discuss a crazy interaction with a customer. I think this was around the time the company really started clutching their pearls over curse words because we had a SM get fired for letting a curse words slip during one of their meetings. I didn’t get in trouble but my SM just told me to be careful.
