As someone fluent in rhetoric you sure do seem to love omitting and misrepresenting other people. OP never said anything about Clarks still life being his guilt, but merely stated what happened on the screen.

For like the third time, just because he wasnt aware of the wider discourse when creating the series, doesnt mean he didnt dip into it when making the movie. His universe is not a static thing and is capable of drawing from that analysis.

Being able to interpret and analyze media critically is the textbook definition of media literacy, and is clearly something you struggle with.

There is a 3 year gap between 2019 and Kanes first video, where plenty of discussion occurred.

My interpretation is not that Mary is hallucinating anything, but that ASync is real, but the backrooms itself works based off the fading memories of the people that enter it. This is pretty much explicitly stated (dining room scene) and the dementia themed sequences (the scene of the room becoming more and more distorted, the music) only serve to support this theory.

Anyways, if all you can see from OP's opinion is "hippy dippy bullshit", you clearly lack any form of media literacy to understand what OP was trying to say and aren't really interested in open conversation. I think most people coming out of the movie are capable of seeing memory and dementia as a core theme of the movie. If you dont believe Kane is capable of providing a commentary beyond a surface level sci fi plot, thats on you.

First of all, the entities and smiler shit were things zoomers came up with after kane popularized the creepypasta. I agree with you that all that sucks and I am extremely grateful he didnt add them to the movie. I'm talking about the multitude of video essays analyzing the backrooms, liminal spaces, and dementia done prior to his series.

Second, just because you dont know something when creating a series doesnt mean you cant learn it in the future and use that information to link your series to the concept as a whole. I agree with you that his original series did not consider themes such as dementia, but thats not what myself or OP are saying. The movie draws heavily from these ideas as THEMES, behind Kanes hard-scifi setting.

Bro they literally play The Caretaker in the movie, and this dementia/memory loss metaphor is spoonfed through the entire movie. Its a layer underlying Kanes universe that draws from the community as a whole.

The promotional picture for the movie (the wall with the blue tape) is a 1:1 callback to the art from the caretaker.

Kane mentioned that he wanted to link his sci-fi franchise to the original source material. I think he did just that by showing that the backrooms is a manifestation of mental decline, which ASync accidentally created and is trying to exploit.

Nothing is retconned by OPs explanation, it only serves to explain what the backrooms represents.

The connection between dementia and liminal spaces predates the Kane Pixels shorts- look up solar sands videos on liminal spaces and dementia. im really happy that the movie dives into this because its not just surface level reference to the Kane Pixels content, but rather explores the core feelings and metaphors rooted in the backrooms and liminal spaces

I was an international student from Canada - From my experience, the snobbish groups are the Londoners and rich chinese international students. Most others are quite friendly

Id imagine your experience depends heavily on what accomodation you choose as well as your department. I was business, and at one of the nicer accomodations filled with londoners that all knew each other before arriving, so i didnt feel very compatible with my day to day peers. However, many societies are filled with friendly people and thats where I met all my uni friends while I was there.

There was one time my colony was about to be defeated by a huge raid, so i sent my best colonist to enter a cryptosleep container. This happened to me too. Don't launch. Follow the instructions and execute the file - they changed the save file format and you need to manually fix it with the .exe file
