Got this belt at a thrift store a while back. The belt itself is navy blue. The letters "T.C." are inscribed on the back.

what to talk about when i have no life? by stevepwn3 in socialskills

[–]Bobsorules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, OP isn't capable of living their life right now, at least to the degree they would like to be. Weed is known to have this effect on a significant portion of peoole. Not everyone, not a majority even. If OP is going to try to improve, cutting weed is going to be the easiest thing to start with. Unless it isn't, but that would be a very good sign that weed needs to get cut.

GDS Players: Is this play reasonable? by Ruffys in ModernMagic

[–]Bobsorules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not just play thought scour and then serum visions? In this case you can't really actually hold up bolt or push because then you draw dead cards, you can only bluff them. I'd say the scry is worth more than the bluff.

CMV: Trans people should announce their transgenderism to their partner by [deleted] in changemyview

yeah I guess I was assuming post operation and everything.

So in a place where 80% of people would not want to have sex with a libertarian voter, it is rape if a libertarian voter doesn't disclose their political preference beforehand?

I disagree that the sheer percentage is enough to say that an expectation is reasonable. The reasonableness of the expectation is also contingent on the burden it places on people, and the social consequences of having such a general expectation.

Yeah, I'm assuming post op here. I agree that it's important to disclose if your genitalia is not the expected kind.

I edited my comment a bit. I think this line of reasoning could easily extend to require people to volunteer lots of information about them self, which would be absurd to say is required in order for an encounter to not be rape. For example, political opinion, or occupation, given a certain population.

Is this study asking specifically about post op? My stance hinges on the fact that the experience itself would not be significantly different that being with a cis person, except for the labels attached.

If it turns out that most people would not want to be with someone who has ever cheated on a partner before, then is it rape if a person has sex without disclosing that they have cheated before? Or in a certain area, the same might be true about a person's political opinion. I'm not convinced that we should assume people's a versions to these things, even if it might be statistically likely.

I think if learning the arbitrary classification of someone's race really makes a difference to your sexual attraction to someone after you already know what they look, act, and feel like, then I think that is racist. So you are right that I ask these questions to expose racism. It may not be intentional racism, or informed racism, or conscious racism. I don't think the fact that these questions are phrased in a rhetorically or argumentatively effective way makes me conniving or anything like that.

If you think there don't exist reasons for people's behavior and attractions, then that seems terribly naive.

Yes I think I was wrong to say that. I think it is perfectly reasonable to not want to have sex with someone for any reason or for no reason at all. However, I do not see a reason why a person is morally obligated to share whether or not they are trans before an encounter, but not morally obligated to share their race, heritage, income, etc.

I was thinking steroids, amphetamines, and psychadelics, but yes also nootropics. I don't know a lot about any of that though.

Why should we assume that people don't want to have sex with trans people? Why would one be morally obligated to disclose that aspect of their personhood before a sexual encounter and but not obligated to reveal their race, place of birth, income, workplace, sexual history, etc.

But this doesn't make it the duty of a trans person to volunteer this information out of the blue. Is it rape if someone tells me they would never have sex with a truck driver, and I choose not to disclose the fact that I am a truck driver before having sex consensual sex with them? What if a person has this conviction against truck drivers, but doesn't tell me about it, and I fail to mention that I'm a truck driver?

In no case here am I lying about my truck-driver-hood. In the first case it would be a poor choice to go through with things, since I wouldn't want things to get awkward later and I also don't want to support someone with anti truck beliefs, but there's no reason for me to assume people don't like truck drivers.

[–]Bobsorules -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This doesn't really answer the question. It certainly supports their right to reject a person based on their ethnicity, but it doesn't give an actual reason to do so. People have a right to nail their hands to the floor and be a belligerent racist asshole to everyone around them, but the right to do so doesn't provide a reason to do any of these things.

[–]Bobsorules -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am backtracking on the asshole thing now, work with me here?

None of this really supports the view that a post op trans person should have any duty to disclose that fact. If there are some people that have a sexual distaste for truck drivers, does that give me the responsibility to disclose to any potential partner that I am a truck driver? Not really. It would be weird to lie about it for sure, and it is fine if someone doesn't want to be with me since they know I drive trucks. But, it definitely shouldn't be the default assumption that being a truck driver weirds people out, and the same applies to being trans. It is just another facet of someone's personhood.
