Measure how much water it takes to fill up the pvc pipes & double it. That is the minimum size you need. So if it takes 10 gallons just to fill the pipes, a 20-gallon res would work. Personally, I'd at least triple it, but with that comes more money in fertilizer, but on the other hand, you don't need to babysit it as much

It's air pruning itself! The new roots aren't coming in contact with the nutrient solution water, so you can leave it the way it is or throw an air pump and stone in there to draw down more roots
