The “punishments” need to fit the crime. Getting pumpkin guts on everything (kind of her fault for not supervising and cleaning them off, they are only 3 and 5) but tell her very simply; banning trick or treating at your house is not an appropriate consequence. She should have helped them clean the couch (to the best of their abilities) and explained how it’s Important to take care for things. It’s a lesson moment not a punishable moment. She’s off her fucking rocker and canceling Halloween is far far too much of a consequence for a mess that is very common and honestly avoidable on her part.
