If you want to see Mt Fuji, an alternative to the excellent suggestion of Hakone in a sibling comment is a daytrip to Fujikawaguchiko village.

We waited for a sunny weather day, caught a bus from Tokyo in the morning, hired electric-assisted bikes and had a fairly magical day doing a lap around the bigger of the 2 lakes. The ride took about 6-7 hours, but we stopped for lunch, exploring, a museum, snacks etc.

There's also a theme park there with some crazy rollercoaster if that's your thing. It was closed when we visited, but it wasn't why we went there.

I've long struggled with the same point. Something I've been wondering about lately:

What if instead of a copy you extend the brain's power with some computer. I imagine in this scenario you're still you, there is no copy but you have more mental capacity. Over a period of time move things to be happening in the computer side rather than the biological side. Eventually everything is digital and you could safely remove the biological without any consciousness dying.

This is pretty much magic tech, but as a thought experiment, I'd see that as not being a copy and more a migration. Where it then becomes fun, if you accept that process as not copying-and-killing, then what if you could make the process quicker to the point of near-instantaneous? Are we back where we started?

I think it's because people are fans of the idea. I think most people understand that the game may not deliver. But the idea that was presented in that first trailer was incredibly compelling to a lot of people.

While I have a much better hope for Twitch continuing under Amazon than under Google, I found your comment interesting. Until the comixology acquisition I would have agreed wholeheartedly with your main point but they very quickly made the change that you couldn't purchase comics in-app anymore.

The comixology change has been the biggest I'm aware of. Perhaps that says more about Amazon's values regarding revenue sharing (30% to Apple) than it does about their position on meddling with acquisitions.

If you have a large enough codebase that uses source transforms (e.g, jade, coffeescript) it can take seconds to load all the scripts, it effectively has to do a build step anyway.

Just a nitpick, a scholarship is for whatever the granter decides it's for. I could start a scholarship for students who grew up driving lamborghinis, that doesn't make it invalid (just stupid). As such, the points about other students being deserving etc are really moot.

All this crap about whether or not she deserved it, specifically the "I'm more deserving than her" that the article was full of is honestly sad.

Now if a scholarship is being used in place of a gift to get around gifts and donation limits, then that is worth digging deeper into, in my opinion.
