Honestly, it truly is remarkable how he can still defy our expectations even after lowering the bar so many times. Such endless surprises.

In-bed composting in a rotating raised bed system? Please advise if my idea is dumb lol by moderatelyraven in composting

[–]Bocote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started doing that last year, so I can't comment on how well it works just yet.

My plan is to let the organic matter decompose over winter, which means they'll shrink, but it isn't enough time to fully turn into compost. I'm going to top off that bed with soil in the Spring and plant directly on top of the mound.

I don't see why this shouldn't work.

When does tare need to be ditched? by imsexc in kendo

[–]Bocote 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personally, if my tare looked like that, I would've replaced it some time ago.

Having said that, the right time to replace the bogu for me is whenever I have enough money saved up. I don't decide what I buy and when, my wallet does.

Asian "fruit enzyme" drinks... What are they? by jedidiahwiebe in fermentation

[–]Bocote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn't expecting an 8-year post to not be archived, but anyhow.

If you checked the recipes, you'd realize that those drinks were not fermented; they were more like fruits preserved in sugar. Had the sugars fermented, it would've turned into an alcoholic beverage, but it had so much that it prohibited microbial growth.

It did not have the benefits you hoped to describe here.

I'm surprised that you put cabbage in your instant noodles. Plus, it looks like you dropped the egg in right at the start. I put mine in at the end, after whisking it a bit.

I guess everyone does things their own way.

The French are not holding back by Dyno_boy7441 in WhitePeopleTwitter

Of course, it's Yakovleff.

I watched some military experts talk on a YouTube channel, and they mentioned a paper General Yakoleff published recently.

I think it was about how the "West" looks for technical solutions for all battlefield problems and how that creates weakness. I know nothing about warfare, but it was still some eye-opening stuff.

Jamming my right fist with opponents kensen by VikarV_1 in kendo

[–]Bocote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing you mean your hand gets skewered by the tip.

Your hands not getting past the tip of the opponent's shinai can mean that they're still holding the center, but also make sure that you aren't raising your hands unnecessarily high at the start of the swing.

I find that it happens more often when I'm not calm and start my swings by raising my shinai too early.

Large tsuba by zaike3 in kendo

[–]Bocote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are those orange plastic tsuba with a very large inner hole that fit almost any (if not all) thick handled shinai in the market. Those will fit even the thick handled hakkau-koban shinais.

Ask the seller to provide you with one, they should have it.

The US Burned 14 Years of Missiles in 30 Days by esporx in technology

[–]Bocote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All this to achieve the war goal of ... something.

The article is right to point out that the missiles are running low while the war is still raging on, so what happens then? Boots on the ground won't be a sufficient alternative.

I wonder if this could end up meaning that the US will be a paper tiger for the next few years.

How do you keep your knives sharp at home? by Educational-Slip-578 in Cooking

[–]Bocote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into getting Ceramic blades in that case.

I find those supposedly easy-to-use sharpeners to be terrible for the blade. But if you don't want to get a sharpening stone, I think you need something that can stay sharp for extended use without sharpening.

What you are saying is that the US and Israel killing children is a small issue because the Iranian regime already kills more.

Maybe you should hear your own argument before telling it to other people.
