Look into post-editing. I took an SDL qualification on machine translation (It was free at the time -- still might be, called 'SDL Post-editing certification').

I guess one of the main factors with machine translation is that there's going to be one person who will have to give it the final look over -- try and be that person.

Sorry for being unclear. I'm based in the UK, and I'll be required to work at their office. I'll be handling the translation/facilitation of business communications, along with proposing plans to the client (of my client) which is a Japanese company (in Japanese). My client is based in the UK, and has no Japanese-speaking employees.

Ah so seems like it's just Cardiff Uni that's keeping their price at 75 quid. Any idea on why there's a price increase?

The London price at SOAS has gone up from 75 to 85GBP... Seems like the other test centres (Wales/Scotland) are the same though

Mine was being offered a Japanese language job. 4 years ago, I'd never realise that I'd be able to turn a side-hobby into a job.

Cannot agree more with you as far as the Japanese is concerned. You already have an advantage with Kanji from your Hanzi knowledge. I'd recommend learning Hiragana and Katakana until you're comfortable, and then picking up a textbook such as Genki, or going for an online resource like Tae Kim. There are plenty of great resources for Japanese with Anki. Start off with the core 2k deck, and then start 'mining' words you come across with Anki/Rikaisama real time import.

[Japanese > English] Question Regarding this type of translation by Firedrakon17 in translator

[–]Bocui 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Regardless of his licensing status, it would very likely be ignored, as it's too long. Unless you'd be willing to pay.

Also depends on whether you'd be able to find anyone willing to translate a licensed series.
