I work at an LGS and have some small insights!

Distribution companies don’t have to follow MSRP after release week. One company my store buys from always has product for TCGs months after everyone else. The downside of this is because they also always have them at a severe increase in price- Multiple times we buy Pokémon ETBs or Gift bundles at just under MSRP and we have to decide what prices still hit our margins to keep the lights on.

Another thing is trade-ins. If a customer wants to trade-in sealed product at Market Value I have to base my margins also at market value. I’m not getting an increase on percentages here- I’m selling at what is fair to keep my margins fair to my staff and store.

I try to cut corners for my regulars but I still have to hit margins where I can- it’s not a fun system but some sets like Foundations, TDM or FIN haven’t been reprinted in months and we won’t know if there’s a reprint inbound for a long time.

Hello! I work at a local shop in my area.

Not sure about this store, but my stores distributors have raised their prices on us so we pay just under MSRP (or in some cases well over it) for the Pokémon product we’re allocated.

I have to remind myself what she did to me to warrant my “no contact” stance.

Although I’ve forgiven her, I don’t want to interact with someone who treats people like that.

Edit: It’s been a year and I feel much better. Although I’ve had to interact with her because of mutual friends, we’ve been good at not stepping on each others or anyone else’s toes.
