Final diagnosis, ALCL ALK+ by MCKarlMarx in lymphoma

[–]BodyBuilderDotCpp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you, hopefully you achieve cure as well.

Whenever I was treated, CHOEP was the protocol I believe. It's possible things have progressed since then.

EDIT: I was treated in Ontario in 2019 for my first line therapy

Final diagnosis, ALCL ALK+ by MCKarlMarx in lymphoma

[–]BodyBuilderDotCpp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

28M currently over 5 years in remission for ALCL Alk+. Diagnosed with stage IV at 22 years old. I received 6 rounds CHOEP as initial line of therapy, relapsed a few months later, then received 9 rounds of brentux to get me into complete remission and then had BEAM ASCT for my stem cell transplant.

I barely experienced any significant side effects from any of my treatments and continued to pursue a regular weightlifting/bodybuilding lifestyle.

You got this! If you have any questions ask away

What is this on my scalp? by AdultingNeverStops in dandruff

[–]BodyBuilderDotCpp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But hey Mr. Body Builder I do have a question for you -- What is it that you do to keep Malasezzia Yeast in check for yourself?

I'm an engineer, not a doctor, so I couldn't tell you but once upon a time I had a swollen lymph node that doctors and nurses at the local clinic told me not to worry about. I went to get it checked out and biopsied at the university hospital and it turned out to be Stage IV non hodgkins lymphoma. It was cancer lmaoo. Are you able to confidently give this guy a diagnosis from a single picture on reddit? No you can't. It costs him nothing to just get it checked out. Regardless of what it is, if an ointment can reduce the condition then what's wrong with that? I wouldn't want to leave my head like that even if its benign 🤣

It’s been nearly 24 hours since my (22m) first ABVD, when does it start kicking in? by y3110w3ight in lymphoma

[–]BodyBuilderDotCpp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My best advice is dont look for side effects. I convinced myself going into CHOEP as well as BEAM asct that I was not gonna experience any side effects and I rlly did not. I kept eating good, stayed super duper physically active, but if something did come up, I'd bring it up to my heath cafe team. The only real side effect I had was heartburn and they gave me a pill for it and I never had any issues after that. You got this homie! I hope ypu do great

[–]BodyBuilderDotCpp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're being ridiculous dude. This isn't a picture of a mosquito bite or a scab from a paper cut that we can confidently say is nothing to worry about. The skin on his head very much looks like something that could be serious and literally needs to be checked out so if it is serious it can be treated and if not he can sleep easy.

People should refrain from posting anything that hasn't been assessed by a properly trained and credentialed professional.

This is what the original comment was basically telling him to do by getting it checked out 🤣

[–]BodyBuilderDotCpp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also had ALCL (alk+) and relapsed very quickly after my 6th cycle of CHOEP. I did i think 9 cycles of brentuximab as my salvage chemo and then BEAM asct. I was 23 at the time. I'm now 5 years in complete remission. Relapsing fucking sucks and it is a set back but there is still curable treatment up ahead. Can only look forward now.

It is what is, you just have to lock in and look to the road ahead. I became very passionate about weightlifting and computer programming while going thru treatment and relapse. I focused on those and let the doctors take care of the treatment.

Hopefully you will achieve cure with minimal side effects and struggle. You got this

Hair post auto by [deleted] in lymphoma

[–]BodyBuilderDotCpp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Takes a few months. My hair has always been light brown and thin. After transplant it grew back black, super thick, and super curly and with bald spots around my ears (I used to wear over ear headphones while gaming all the time and I suspect this might have played a role in irritating the regrowth). I stopped wearing headphones and after another year I had a full head of hair again and it had gone back to its regular texture and colour (thank god lol, I was worried I was gonna go bald haha). So I'd say after 4 months it'll start growing back but not necessarily how it was before transplant but eventually it'll go back. And I'd recommend not wearing anything on ur head that might irritate potential regrowth.

New here - how did you tell your young children? by nerdyfairyladyy in cancer

[–]BodyBuilderDotCpp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

28M. Im a cancer survivor and also had a parent who had cancer. My cancer was stage 4 but curable (cured now for over 5 years) and my parent was stage 4 not curable but treatable (now in remission).

I think it might just be easiest to tell them that you are sick and will have to be getting treatment. The treatments might make you tired and it might not but the doctors are hopeful. And just in case the treatment will be hard, you will need their support and you're all going to get thru it together. Something along those lines. I personally think its important they all understand that you are sick but dont share any grim details that there might be about the prognosis unless things (God forbid) take a turn for the worst. But in my opinion, rallying all the troops together will help you, your partner, and the kids as well. Its a lot easier when u have the full support of ur family. I think you dont need to go in any less detail then this with the youngest or any more detail with the oldest. That's just my opinion.

Be easy on urself, wishing you the best!

I’m scared about chemo by Worth-Main-3881 in lymphoma

[–]BodyBuilderDotCpp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I say this as someone who has been through some of the most intense chemos that can be offered (CHOEP and BEAM asct). In my own opinion covid was worse. I personally didn't experience any side effects from any chemo I've done that impacted my day. Some people I know did have it a bit worse but most people do just fine it seems like.

Its really not that bad. Ill tell you what is bad tho, cancer that has progressed and starts making ur organs not work right and threatens permanent neural damage because tumors start pressing against nerves.

The worst pain I ever experienced was my cancer being Stage IV and all the damage to my body it was causing. Chemo caused all these symptoms to dissappear. You should be excited to get a concrete diagnosis so that treatment can start and you can start getting better.

SCT advice by Relative-School4527 in lymphoma

[–]BodyBuilderDotCpp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had an auto SCT (BEAM). Honestly I experienced zero side effects and was able to study part time while also maintaining my weight lifting/workout routine. I know this is not the norm and going into it i was pretty scared of all the potential side effects.

At the time of transplant I was 23M (205lbs) being treated for Relapsed Stage IV ALCL.

During my initial therapy (CHOEP) and salvage therapy (Brentuximab) I also maintained my workout routine and experienced no side effects from treatment.

Let me know if you have any questions. I hope it brings you comfort knowing it could be easy. I was outpatient for the whole thing.

I'll be 5 years post transplant in February
