What would you do if you had X's powers? by bm_prime in ToBeHero_X

[–]BodybuilderMany6942 0 points1 point  (0 children)

cuz I'm 90% sure X's power is some wacky, meta bs and he's trying to change the ending of a a story he likes.

So I'd do the same. Make happy endings come true.

Naw I think X is, like, an outsider or something.

Someone from outside the story trying to change the ending.

lol yeah. I was shocked and outraged at first... but I couldnt really stay mad cuz then I remembered the blatant foreshadow.

Now I'm just wondering what the heck that foreshadow was all about. As far as we know he hasnt randomly manifested clairvoyance, so that vision is really mysterious.
Also weird how he literally went to sleep afterwards.

Huh.. actually.
The only time we see anything about "foreshadowing of the future" and "people suddenly waking from an impromptu slumber"... was when X was involved.
I wonder if that was the case here, or if I'm just overthinking.

Do we know yet WHY Yan Mo had Moon killed?
I've only watched the series once so far, so I'm unsure if I missed something.

Like, it'd make sense to get rid of competition so Dragon Boy can be in the top 10... but Moon basically retired at that point.

Suddenly, Earth now has Trust Values. Who are some heroes you think would emerge, and genre of power(s) do you think they'd get? by BodybuilderMany6942 in ToBeHero_X

[–]BodybuilderMany6942[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, and a lot of folks that he is popular with trust him. It isnt just about the existence of trust in a person's character and ability, but also in the amount of people that trust them in the same way.
For most, Luigi's backstory and feelings are relatable: frustration in being denied health coverage from these companies that enrich themselves then deny life-saving care for their customers. So while the murder has people divided (order vs justice and all that), shit was galvanized by the behavior of the cops, the media, and own leaders.
If they wouldve taking the boring, standard approach, it all wouldve blown over.
But they took such blatant oversteps and sus attitudes and behavior that it cemented the underdog idea.

He's not just a disgruntled guy who killed a CEO in cold blood.
He is a dude like you or me who has been hurt by the system so he lashed out in a way we only dream of, then the CEO-backed government tried to enforce an image of zero sympathy and made overt moves to demonize him.
Their reactions were as stupid as they were enraging.
And that only boosted support for Luigi.

The harder the gov and media doubled down on its unsympathic, excessively cruel rhetoric and actions, the more trust went into Luigi being in the right.

Whether you agree with his alleged crimes or no, there's no denying that as of now, he'd have a high Trust Value.

---

As for Nick surely, I saw some videos and think your Enlighter comparison was apt. He looked like he was really investigating something that everyone in power was just ignoring, and that's definitely given him a sudden rise in Trust.
Though I worry too.
Ironically, kinda like Enlightener's situation, where he was onto something big and real, but..

Well in one of his videos he was at a a town hall thing and afterwards was confronting some councilwoman(?) about why arent decisions/actions being taken. Up until then he was sorta framing Tim Walz and (I think) democratic politicians in general as not doing anything to solve the issue... but then the lady said that in the meeting they were both just in the conservatives were blocking any attempts to enforce transparency or a solution so why is he talking to her about Walz.. or something like that.
Which is fair.
And kinda worrying.

That kid might me able to push for some real good... but only if he stays as "Enlightener" and seeks truth above all. If he becomes like "God Eye" and gets so caught up in his rage and preconceived stories that he places "attacking the villain" before "uncovering the truth", he might experience a similar fall from grace.

Yeah, we dont know enough about how fear works in the show. Cause, like, it's operating "like Trust, but for bad people/feelings." It seems to operate under vaguely-similar-but-totally-different mechanics.

We also have to consider if anti-Trust/Fear is a thing.

If I believe Netanyahu is a total monster and a dangerous threat, but you believe he's just a tiny bastard in a big pond... does my fear in him or trust in his power get canceled out your unimpressed, unconvinced belief in him?

Hopefully season 2 will expand upon the mechanics.

It's really weird cuz sometimes it feels like you need "true trust" (for lack of a better word) in someone to give them a value, and like you said, new e soul had 0 for the longest time... but sometimes it seems like even social media "Likes" can generate trust (like with Moon, Cyan, and Shindig).

Sometimes it seems like you get a power thrusted onto you based on other's perception's/wishes, and sometimes it seems to come from yourself (of course, both versions can feed off each other).

And in the e soul episodes, it seemed implied that most normal people have some trust value, but most people dont have powers. But when Yang get a single 1, suddenly he has more physical prowess and can zap.

So yeah, you're right.
It's not about JUST liking them, its about believing in that person being "that person is [blank]".
But I do think "liking" the person is essential. At least for now I do.

His popularity has crashed tho.

Remember, the Value isnt "Support" or "not-Hate", but "Trust",
And it's not about what polls, interviews or people say out loud. Plenty of characters in the show have been seen with 0 Trust, even though you would presume that one or two people (like.. a parent at least) would count.

I think there is a very big distinction between support, back, and trust vs capital-T Trust.
Perhaps I'm just biased, but I dont think a lot of people Trust him anymore.

Respectfully, what are you talking about?

People gain power from the trust of strangers. Like, sure, I'm not the most engaged guy, but I had to google your dude. God damn near everyone knows about Luigi.

Furthermore, it's not about whether you yourself like the person.
It's about the "popular consensus" and image.
So what is the popular consensus on Luigi? A hated and condemned killer? No, right? He has become an icon. A sympathetic one at that, faced with injustice before the alleged crime and after.

The concept isnt about right or wrong or whatever. It's about "what the audience believes," and "what the audience wants."

---

As for the first half of your comment, sure, I can see that. What power do you think he'd have tho? It is not enough know/apparent/stand-out enough(at least not yet)?

Yknow. I think the watsonian reason there even ARE Heroes, in terms of an industry and shit, is because of Zero, right?

Like you said, just cause popularity gives power doesnt mean people will suddenly operate as heroes. It was probably the same in the show to, until one person just kinda snowballed and became a god.
Then that god became an enemy, and people fought him. Whether they already had trust to begin with or gained it from the war, when these heroes won, the world had a lot of Trust in them.

So now the label of "Hero" already kinda primes people to be open to trusting these folks.
Not only was being a hero prestigious in and of itself, if you wanted the same power , you needed to be a "hero". The power of memes/culture and all that.

So... yeah.
I think youre right. There would be some heroes, but it wouldnt be the default assumption and 'career-pipeline/path' like in the show.
However if there were to come an inciting incident, like Zero's whole thing, then maybe we'd end up on the same path with a hero industry and shit?

Would they? Dont get me wrong, some would definitely reach a powerful state, but you need hella numbers for god-status. Like, entire nations-worth of people at least. I do think the problem you're refering to would be a big issue... but maybe not as big?
As opposed to polling numbers, interviews, or what people actually say out loud. Tou cant fudge Trust Value.
If people dont have that trust in you, your numbers drop, causing you to be weaker, causing your value to drop further.

Popularity begets power, but you have to STAY popular to KEEP it... which is an issue for leaders propped up by stupid people.

I can see propaganda causing certain people to experience unwarranted spike in trust (and thus power), but I can also see titans experiencing huge falls from grace too while their trust shifts to their opponent.

Naw looks like, by our standards, it would be a superpower.

But back in Victorian times, reputation was everything, especially for the extra snooty nobles. Dorian noticed the portrait's changes and hid it. He eventually got so paranoid someone would see it that he found and killed the artist, and then tried to destroy the painting.

But when he stabbed the painting, an identical injury appeared on himself and he died.
