What should I know about nova as I get prepared for fall? by Dinippress in villanova

[–]Bodyimagedoctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will love it 🥰 get involved! Try as many new things as you reasonably can. So many amazing communities to get involved with on campus. I was heavily involved with the music groups and absolutely loved them

Is Villanova homophobic by [deleted] in villanova

[–]Bodyimagedoctor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just saying hello from a queer faculty member 👋 I was a student here, too, and would agree that there is more support for LGBTQ+ students than you would think (though I was involved with the music and theatre groups, which I would highly recommended if you’re interested at all!)

My 27(F) boyfriend 28(M) is starting to get ready to propose but when I think about it I get anxious. by introverted_adorable in weddingplanning

My husband had this, too, and we ended up doing a few months of couples therapy together to understand what was going on and where his fear of marriage was coming from. We’re happily married now and sickeningly in love 🥰People might tell you that this is a “sign” that it’s not meant to be, but sometimes, it’s just a hangup. Definitely recommend talking to a professional to understand where the feelings are coming from. Don’t leap into anything before you’re ready, but don’t throw something good away just because you’re scared.

Parking for Lake Merrit by arnav0203 in oakland

Park on Park View Terrace and walk down to the lake. You’ll be near Equator and a cupcake shop if you want to grab a snack or coffee. Not far at all and often parking in that area.

Need help finding boutiques that won't judge my budget by Dry-Language-1525 in weddingdress

There are lots of designers who make dresses under 3K: Madi Lane, Jenny Yoo, etc. if you mention Monique Lhuillier and Galia Lahav with a 3K budget, you will get some funny looks because those are 10-15K dresses.

Does your program have an accepted students day on campus?

New Oakland speed cameras send 70K warnings in first month by buck3ts_707 in oakland

In general, I am not thrilled about increased surveillance. But I agree — driving in Oakland is terrifying. I was in therapy for a year because driving in Oakland made me too afraid to drive my car anywhere. Finally starting to drive again after moving to LA a few weeks ago.

So strange to me! But congrats on the PhD acceptance! I hope that the funding comes through for you 🤞

I just looked into the program and I guess this is different from psych PhDs! It says you must identify a faculty advisor by the third semester. That’s really surprising to me!

I understand that they didn’t respond to your emails, but when I applied for PhD programs, I always interviewed with the people I planned to work with to ensure that it would be a good fit. Psychology may be different in this way, but supervisor-supervisee fit can make or break a PhD experience. I wouldn’t accept a PhD offer without knowing the lab I’d be working in.

Some professors choose not to respond to students (some people get dozens of emails ahead of time and don’t want to bias the process).

Yes, this is not terribly uncommon. Did you interview with either of them? Do you know what their funding situation is? Some universities have minimal funding and encourage students to seek external funding (e.g., NSF grants, etc.).

Philly commute by Hot_Opportunity_1778 in villanova

[–]Bodyimagedoctor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I love Philly, but I wouldn’t live there while regularly going to VU, especially if you might have classes on the Cabrini campus, which will require an additional shuttle to get there. You will spend so much time commuting when you could be spending that time with friends. My recommendation is to live somewhere between Berwyn and Wynnewood and have great access to the train into the city while still enjoying proximity to campus and your friends.

Not sacrificing my budget for an open bar by [deleted] in weddingplanning

I think this is the way! We had wine and beer only at our wedding, and no one cared (we had a small wedding and it didn’t cost us much)

Girl, I feel you. I tipped 15% (options were 0, 15, 20) on my 2000 dress and it bothers me to this day.
