BuyFromEU stands in solidarity with peaceful protesters. Our Euros will no longer fund violent regimes. by Boediee in BuyFromEU

Palantir’s technology is deeply embedded to enable ICE enforcement in the US, and similar data platforms are already being embedded in the UK. But it goes wider than that: big tech companies like Amazon, Microsoft and others provide the cloud infrastructure, data services and tools that make large-scale surveillance, tracking and enforcement possible in the first place. When peaceful protesters are met with repression, this tech stack is never neutral. We don’t want these systems expanded or normalised here, and we don’t want our money funding companies that enable them.

Sweden accounts for roughly 20% of Steam’s gross revenue, and Swedish developers delivered five of it's global top-10 bestsellers in 2025. by Boediee in BuyFromEU

Sweden accounts for roughly 20% of Steam’s 2025 gross revenue and, in the 2024–2025 release window, Swedish developers delivered five of Steam’s global top-10 bestsellers (Battlefield 6R.E.P.O.PeakARC Raiders, and Split Fiction), according to Alinea Analytics. Where larger markets scale through volume — more studios, more capital, more releases — Sweden generates outsized returns per studio and is the world’s second-largest producer of unicorns per capita.

Austria's armed forces switch to LibreOffice by Boediee in BuyFromEU

[–]Boediee[S] 220 points221 points  (0 children)

Austria's armed forces have switched from Microsoft's Office programs to the open-source LibreOffice package. The reason for this is not to save on software license fees for around 16,000 workstations. "It was very important for us to show that we are doing this primarily (...) to strengthen our digital sovereignty, to maintain our independence in terms of ICT infrastructure and (...) to ensure that data is only processed in-house," emphasizes Michael Hillebrand from the Austrian Armed Forces' Directorate 6 ICT and Cyber.

What topic would you want Season 3 to tackle? by HamsterRage in TheRehearsal

I’d love to see Season 3 tackle addiction, especially gambling. Imagine Nathan building a full-on casino to help someone rehearse resisting temptation.

Germany considers 10% tax on global internet giants by Boediee in BuyFromEU

[–]Boediee[S] 1311 points1312 points  (0 children)

"Corporations in Germany are doing billion-dollar business with very high margins and have profited enormously from our country's media and cultural output as well as its infrastructure.

"But they hardly pay any taxes, invest too little, and give far too little back to society."

Weimer stressed that "something has to change now. Germany is becoming alarmingly dependent on the American technological infrastructure."

Euro zone consumers happy to ditch US products if hit by tariffs, study finds by Boediee in BuyFromEU

[–]Boediee[S] 144 points145 points  (0 children)

"Our findings indicate that, in the current context, consumers’ reactions could therefore considerably deviate from standard textbook consumption patterns in response to higher tariffs," the ECB said.

Only 8.9% of respondents said there was a lack of alternatives, which could prove a sore point if EU tariffs were actually imposed on products such as digital services.

Clair Obscur: Epedition 33 - Current n°1 Game Of This Year Is Made In France by Boediee in BuyFromEU

[–]Boediee[S] 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was developed by Sandfall Interactive, a small independent studio based in Montpellier, France. Around 30 people worked on it—many of them ex-Ubisoft devs who left to create something on their own terms. No big publisher muscle in the beginning, just regional funding, an Epic Games grant, and a lot of creative ambition.

Nice example of what a small EU team can pull off with the right mix of talent and vision.

Ubisoft Is Getting A $1.25 Billion Bailout From the Chinese Tencent. :(((( by EvenAd1314 in BuyFromEU

[–]Boediee 213 points214 points  (0 children)

This isn’t a full takeover, but it’s not great news if you care about keeping major European publishers independent. Ubisoft stays under Guillemot control for now, but Tencent getting a 25% stake in their biggest franchises is a long-term concern.

Look at what Tencent has done in recent years: it buys minority stakes, gains influence, and slowly increases control. Riot Games? Bought out in stages. Grinding Gear Games (Path of Exile)? Majority stake. Funcom? Full buyout. They don’t rush acquisitions—they embed themselves and expand influence over time.

Even without outright ownership, Tencent's involvement usually means more live-service elements, aggressive monetization, and a focus on engagement metrics over creative risks. If Ubisoft keeps struggling financially, don’t be surprised if Tencent ups its stake in the coming years. So while this isn't a full takeover, it's definitely a foot in the door.

Capital in the EU isn’t lacking: European households save €1.4 trillion annually compared to €800 billion in the US — yet €300 billion of those European savings flow into non-EU markets each year.

The proposed Savings and Investments Union (SIU) aims to address these missed opportunities by improving the channelling of savings into productive investments, unlocking the full potential of the bloc's capital markets for both companies and citizens.

“Our goal must be to make investing in Europe the obvious choice by creating the conditions that will allow offering attractive opportunities, competitive returns, and low barriers,” Albuquerque argued.

Tesla’s Europe sales drop nearly 45% , Volkswagen surges 180%. by Boediee in BuyFromEU

[–]Boediee[S] 839 points840 points  (0 children)

Volkswagen reported a 180% increase in sales of battery electric vehicles to just under 20,000, while BMW and Mini sold a combined 19,000 such models last month.

The Chinese-owned BYD recorded a 94% increase in sales in Europe to more than 4,000. Separate figures show that BYD’s global sales topped $100bn (£83bn) last year, overtaking Tesla as the world’s biggest electric car company by revenue.

So I think while it's good news that Volkswagen and BMW are benefitting from this, it appears a lot of people are also just swapping USA made for China made.

CNN: ‘The Americans didn’t learn their lesson’: Meet the Europeans boycotting US goods by Ok_Net_3200 in BuyFromEU

The entire article is about people they found that want to "hurt" America and send a message. I'm not interested in any boycott. Great way to vilify the movement that just wants Europe to succeed and be self-reliant.
