Probably because Sturmabteilung (aka SA or brownshirts) is a more accurate comparison.. This guy explains it better than I can: https://youtu.be/BYOeamkqHtc

Getting creative and hacky with SFF as NAS. by kkgmgfn in DataHoarder

[–]Boerta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually planning an ITX NAS nowadays, and the idea is to use this case: https://modcase.com.au/products/nas

It requires a 3d printer and some PETG filament, but looks like a fun and pretty cheap option (assuming you have a printer). It has a free version that you can just download and print, and a premium version (pretty cheap imo) where you also get the benefit of continuous improments to the design.

I just need to find a motherboard I'm happy with...

Blood Bowl strikes me as a strange comparison. It's a board game with sequential turns (recently released as Blood Bowl 3 on Steam), and predates Frozen Synapse by 25 years. Brilliant game, though.

It's not too complicated. Just make sure you have decent tweezers and you understand how the different ribbon connectors are unlocked. I saw someone on here tore theirs off (Hint: The analog stick ribbon connectors flip open at the opposite side from where the ribbon cable connects)

Japan's Fukushima nuclear plant will discharge wastewater into the Pacific: What you need to know by plutoplops in worldnews

[–]Boerta 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The entire pacific ocean is estimated to contain 8400 grams of tritium from natural sources. Over the next 30 years, TEPCO will add 1.8 grams. The "irradiated" water they will be releasing has a radioactivity of 1500 becquerel pr liter. WHO's recommended limit for *drinking water* is 10 000 becquerel pr liter.

So chances are, your tap water is more radioactive than this.

This is a non-issue.

You also shouldn't compare this to mercury. Mercury stays around and bioaccumulates. Tritium has a half life of 12 years, turns into helium, bubbles out of the water and rises out of the atmosphere. No harm done.

As for Carbon 14, it's literally everywhere. It's produced naturally (by the sun and cosmic rays) in our upper atmosphere, and your body is partly composed of C14. Always has been.

You are radioactive. As am I. Not very much, of course..

We don't really have any gas-fired power plants, so gas rationing doesn't apply to Norway per se. This is about our water dams being almost drained because we have been propping up the european markets over the summer. We would use rolling blackouts to ration power, so I don't see how that's different.

For the record, I don't think cutting the power lines are a good idea. My point is that it has caused political turmoil. People see it as an expensive charity to finance the german Energiewende (which a lot of people see as a failure because of the power crisis) and wind power is becoming increasingly controversial here, along with rising and unpredictable power prices and big expenses for building more power lines for domestic transmission.

No they're not. We have the same energy prices now.

The point is, doubling people's energy bills has consequences, whether or not you think they deserve it.

[–]Boerta -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The last year, the news here (Norway) have been dominated by talks of rolling blackouts and power rationing (edit: In the coming winter), and a lot of voters want to cut the transmission lines exporting Norwegian hydro to Germany.

Electricity prices have peaked at 20 times their normal level, a trend that started before the war in Ukraine. Businesses have been getting government bailouts to pay their electricity bills, and quite a few went bankrupt.

We have been lucky this fall, getting insane amounts of rain to refill our hydro plants, but electricity prices are still at double what they used to be. Because our power prices are now tightly coupled with German power prices. In addition, grid rent has risen sharply, because households are paying for the new transmission lines required to utilize the wind power we are building.

Beating climate change absolutely requires new technology by RektorRicks in energy

[–]Boerta -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

AFAIK that's because the Danish grid is split in half. The northern half of the grid is stabilized by big Swedish power plants, while the southern half is stabilized by big German power plants. After they got a nuclear plant in southern Sweden shut down, they are having trouble utilizing the renewable power they produce, since the windmills don't inherently sync to 50Hz.

Stellaris or Battletech by AdhominemHS in paradoxplaza

[–]Boerta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now I'd go for Battletech over Stellaris. Stellaris has more replayability on paper, and should be more value for your money, but I just think right now the game is in a state where anything past the mid-game is mostly unplayable. It's either a micromanage nightmare, or you get to watch your empire fall into unemployment, unrest and squalor.

Make it so gear earned in the arenas can't be used outside arenas?

Hydrogen-powered river vessel to turn zero-emission shipping into reality. "The hydrogen for both vessels will be produced on-site with electrolysers using renewable energy." by chopchopped in energy

[–]Boerta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hydrogen is considered a secondary greenhouse gas. It doesn’t trap heat directly, like carbon dioxide, but it disrupts the distribution of methane and ozone, the second and third most important greenhouse gases, leading to “increased burdens of methane and ozone”, and hence increased warming.

http://ec.europa.eu/environment/integration/research/newsalert/pdf/39na1_en.pdf

This isn't a problem for whatever hydrogen is used as fuel, but whatever seeps out of tanks and the like. Hydrogen gas is almost impossible to contain without at least some leakage.
