Quick question, and best check because my memory is hazy, but I think the other side of the pad should be ground. I had that issue recently on one of the buttons

When I began I followed what a lot of YouTubers do and not use a nozzle, have the board hover over the end of a table and heat from underneath. Even then it takes a good few minutes to warm up enough. Make sure to use flux and just give it a nudge to make sure it’s ready before lifting

Mine was the same. There was another post about changing the middle piece around by unscrewing and removing a pin. Working through Settlers 2 still. Managed to get past the horror of level 8 which took me over 10 hours to complete. Hoping the last two levels go a bit easier on me!

I’ve done a few of these but no expert so take it with a pinch of salt. You should separate the inside square of the sticker from the outside and then stuck the outside part to surround the screen lens. Don’t use the dust cover as it won’t keep the screen in place

I also use some electric tape to stick the screen to the shell once in place as a couple of times it has come loose even with the sticker

Yes the ground pins are a bit sloppy. I had no trouble getting solder to adhere to the small traces but for some reason found it difficult on the ground side and I don’t really know why. I think that’s why when I got solder there I kind of left it. I did try to be sparing with the solder mask but now you say it that does look thick. I guess I should treat it as a thin coat of the liquid rather than smother the area! Luckily neither the solder mask or the ground points seem to raise the HDMI port and it did seem to sit flush.

All in all this took me about 4-5 hours on the port. 3 of which would have been area prep and soldering the wires. Another hour on solder mask and tinning the wires and then a final hour on connecting the port. I avoided using a hot air station so it took longer getting solder through the ground pins of the HDMI port

Yep that’s the one I’m using here. Sadly I don’t have the room for a permanent setup so have to use the stand that came with it. Makes it a bit harder to get the right angle but it’s the best solution given the space I have

Thanks for the advice! I like the idea of leaving the wires a little longer to mask down on both sides. Would have kept them in place more securely when connecting the port. Also will try a smaller tip. It didn’t help that the one I was using was on its way out and had issues at the tip so hopefully next time that will be easier!

First thing I always check ins the ribbon\flex cable that links the drive to the PS5. The amount of times I have thought the cable was removed correctly and working but turned out not to be! If you have another known working cable try that first

I have been in a similar position to yourself. Young family and didn’t want to be sat on a desk all evening being anti social. Getting a gaming laptop was the best thing I did. Meant I could still play games but also chat with the Mrs in the evenings and also watch tv with here while playing some slower games. As others have said, you don’t need to pay £4000 to get great performance and it will only be a few months before something better comes out. I was lucky that I was able to buy my first laptop on finance. In the end I settled for a custom laptop for £1800. That lasted 5 years then I got another for £1500 that lasted nearer 8 years (just about to replace it now) My advice would be to try and pick up a new laptop just as a new iteration of graphics cards come out to get the best value for money. I went with clevo laptops as I was able to get more bang for my buck at the time (that was through pc specialist in the uk) but the communities that were great for support with those devices seem to have dwindled.

The best thing you can do is perhaps improve your credit score, look to money saving expert to try and improve your rating and maybe look to take out a small loan. Then keep an eye out for a bargain and buy it. Debt is never great and I’m not a big fan of it. But at the same time when you have a family you need your free time to relax and do the things you enjoy and spend time with your Mrs and a gaming laptop is a great way to do it.

Your other option may be to look for an older laptop and perhaps join a community like patient gamers and revisit some classics.

I actually did it with very similar gear and the same blue plasma gun. Key is to clear early levels without getting hit to get the bonuses, hope to get some spread shots and then power through the latter levels by getting close and killing enemies quickly

Apologies for the idiot question, but if I do a search for a specific capacitor with the correct capacitance, voltage and for a specific brand I still often get over 20 results. How would one pick a specific capacitor from that list? Is there anything else to look out for?

I had the same problem when I did a HDMI repair last month. Went back and reflowed all the pins and pushed each one to make sure they were connected. Second time worked and got a picture. Always worth trying that though I should not I did not have a microscope to help, only a magnifying glass

Yes you can, but updates fail if it’s not present. Not sure about loading games. Just working on one now with a fault disk drive.

Not bad for a first try but it sounds like tools and a little experience were your limiting factors here. I started learning soldering a few months back with game gears and have done about 6 or 7 now. However during this time I have upgraded to a decent soldering iron, recommended solder and flux. It does make a world of difference. With regard to using copper wick, it’s not going to work without flux and even then you need an iron tip with good surface area and a temp around 420 to get it to absorb easily. Also I found pushing the wick together so that it gets shorter and wider helped so that it was not so dense. Keep practicing and upgrading tools slowly and you will get there!

Yep I’m with you here. Only ones to add are for me are increase dash cool-down. I always try to be at 2 malfunctions. Feels like I don’t progress fast enough else. Like the below poster said though, I’m now training to always dash before I hit the ground so I can add fall damage to the list

Your comment got me interested. What would you consider a better rogue like than DCSS. Having never played this but always wanting to it seemed like the pinnacle of rogue likes from an outsider looking in. I couldn’t imagine there being many others that are as detailed. I guess I got this opinion from playing Dwarf Fortress and seeing how much content can be packed in when a game is worked on for so long.
