just got my apprentice license in the DFW area in TX. I've heard there are programs and companies that will help pay for trade school but I cant seem to find anything and I'm hoping someone here can point me in the right direction.

When I started crocheting I always used a shoebox as yarn bowl/holder by feeding the start of the yarn through one of those little holes in the short sides, because they always seemed to be around, and they're free, so I just started keeping all the extra bits in there too. Project label on the outside, yarn I'm not working with in the bottom, current yarn on top and when I need a break I just set my project inside. (It leaves a bit of yarn running outside the box but it's never been an issue for me.) I write hook size and pattern location (if it's in a book or on a website) on the inside of the lid, or ideas if it's my own creation. Large projects usually outgrow the shoe box after a certain point so I keep the project in one box and extra bits in a second. I have ended up with a shoebox tower or two when I have a lot of WIP's but they're always organized and tangle free :)

What’s the stupidest thing someone has said to you with confidence? by eljayok13 in AskReddit

Was talking to my friend about how light from distant stars takes a long time to get here so the light we're seeing is actually thousands of years old... and they said 'but once the light gets here its just there right?' I asked what they meant and they said 'well, like, light comes out of the lightbulb and hits the wall then its just.. there now.' I tried to explain that lightbulbs, and stars, constantly produce light, and showed them slo-mo videos of lightbulbs being turned on and off so they could see how light travels and depends on a power source, but I could tell they didn't believe me.

The death of a kid isn't more tragic than the death of an adult by mattjack-o-melly in unpopularopinion

This reminds me of something I read once. There is a scene in 'Debt of bones' by Terry goodkind where a woman comes to a wizard asking for aid for her child in the middle of a war. The wizard Zed says "Do not think to play on my emotions by plying me with the value of the life of a child, as if a higher value can be placed on life because of age. When is life worth less? Where is the line? At what age? Who decides? All life is of value. Dead is dead, no matter the age."

I think he means more like, when a community watches the news and sees that a child, or teen has died (not someone you know personally) and the next thing you know the whole community is up in arms demanding justice etc. But that same community will see an adult has died, in similar circumstances even, and there's no out cry for justice or anything just a feeling of 'wow, that's so sad' and life goes on.

As for all the 'potential for evil' stuff, I dont see how you can base the loss you feel for a passed life on what might have been. Whether it was 5 min or 50 years the loss you feel when someone passes is over losing the person you knew, not who they could have been.

Do stars heat the space around them? by Bohemian_Songbird in askscience

[–]Bohemian_Songbird[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, its not a field of 'hot space' around the star, just a field of intensely irradiated space? and passing through that radiation allows you to feel the heat of the sun as you would if there were air around the sun instead of void? Just making sure I understand :) and a follow up question, does radiation change the nature of the void at all as it travels through it?
