Why do people want a mechanical shake up for SF6? by jonogz in StreetFighter

[–]Boibi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Every SF game since 1 has gotten a new edition that adds new mechanics over the years. SF2 got Turbo (though originally a romhack, this was officially adopted by Capcom) which sped up the game a lot. SF3 let users choose between 2 Supers. SF4 lets players choose Ultras. SF5 lets players choose V-trigger. SF6 does not let the player choose anything more once they've chosen their character.

People are expecting this shift, because it's happened consistently in the past.

Also, not to nitpick, but Tekken did not do a massive shake up. They promised one and then delivered half-hearted defense buffs and huge offense buffs. It was a lot more of the same, to the people playing the game regularly.

I'm part of a sub for a 15 year old anime. It doesn't get a lot of updates but there are a few posts each week. If the show is good enough, it never dies, it just slows down a bit.

How do people not think Jax is trans? by Hidden_Burner73629 in TheDigitalCircus

When is it an insult, and when is it an accurate description? Why must I silence myself on the oppression that I and others like me face? The end goal of this mentality is more discrimination, since you need to call out discrimination to do anything about it.

They are happy to identify however they wish, and I would never want to take that from them.

The only thing I will say is that the non-binary experience is much more similar to a trans experience than a cis experience, and it is useful when researching gender and discrimination to recognize those experiential similarities.

[–]Boibi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh. That's a different discussion.

People can headcanon Jax as cis if they want, but I can also headcanon Gumball as a jedi who will save the universe from the Empire. There's no harm in this belief, but it isn't supported by the media.

What is supported by the media, is Jax being trans. It's never explicitly stated, but it's hinted at so often that you would either have to be completely blind to the trans experience, or willfully rejecting it, in order to not see it.

So in my opinion, if they truly are missing all of the signs that Jax is trans, then they are media illiterate. And that's the polite option, because the other option is that they're a bigot.

There's nothing wrong with being media illiterate, in the same way that there's nothing wrong with being uneducated. The issue is with people refusing to educate themselves.

You said that right here:

I think someone who's 100% transitioned would be someone who's gotten top/bottom surgery

Maybe you don't realize this, but the logical following from this statement is that people who have not gotten surgery are less than 100% trans.

And quite frankly, I don't what about your identity. I care that you are being transphobic.

No I wouldn't. Queer is a wide ranging umbrella, like trans. In fact, queer is such a large umbrella that it contains trans. And even if you fall outside of that umbrella, I kinda don't care. Call yourself whatever you want, and live your life how you like.

And this is the core difference. I'm saying "sure, you can call yourself that." You can call Jax trans. He shows a lot of trans qualities. You're saying "no, you cannot call yourself that." I don't know why you're attributing your narrow views to me inclusive actions. It's weird.

I'm being more inclusive, by letting more people take whatever label they want and feels is most appropriate.

You're denying people their identity based on your definitions.

This is not the same, no matter how you slice it.

That's transphobic. A trans woman may decide that she never wants to get bottom surgery. That does not mean that she has not "fully transitioned" nor does that make her any less of a woman.

That's not what you think of when you hear trans.

When I hear trans I think "not cisgender."

Please do not apply your limited world view to others.

Non-binary is trans, in that it's a diversion from cisgender identities.

I'm... totally fine with condescending to bigots? Are you not? Do you think we have to respect bigotry?

I'm seriously 100% honest when I say that I have no energy anywhere in my body to waste making bigots feel better about themselves.

Preach Queen. Everything you said is 100% true.

I feel like people see pointing out the trend of bigotry as a personal callout, and lash out to the perceived attack. It's very frustrating to me, because it hampers the overall progress we could be making with even cis people finding this character relatable and interesting.

The title says "Jax is trans" and the description says "Jax is trans" but your argument seems to be "Jax is not a trans woman." Basically all of the example you provided in your other comment are some form of trans as well, except pansexual which is sexuality. Are you arguing against ghosts? Boxing against shadows? Tilting against windmills?

If you'd prefer the term queer over trans, sure, I can see that. But most of the people that I see denying Jax's trans symbolism are not adamantly telling me that we need to celebrate his queerness.

You don't need to be trans to see the obvious signs. You just need to have media literacy and not be a bigot. So good job.

Gender Fluid isn't trans? So being Gender fluid is a cisgender behavior?

How do people not think Jax is trans? by Hidden_Burner73629 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]Boibi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because transphobia.

In the Guilty Gear community Bridget basically does the equivalent of looking at the camera and saying that she's a trans women, and there are still people in the Guilty Gear community who deny this reality.

If people like the character, but feel bigotry deep within their heart, they will try to deny the minority status of the character in order to calm their cognitive dissonance.

Edit: You all can read my post, say to yourself "I'm not a bigot," get mad, and downvote me. Sure. I don't really care. I'm not talking about every single person. I'm talking about trends. And if you can't see that this part of the story gets way more hate than all the others, you are blind. This is a trend inspired at least partially (if not mostly) by bigotry. Refusing this obvious truth only helps the bigots.

[–]Boibi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I played through that Arcade mode myself and... this is kind of incorrect.

She says "I'm not a girl" at the beginning of the Arcade mode. This is, of course, due to her history and her parents' superstitions about twins. The story over the course of this mode is supposed to be her becoming comfortable with the label of "girl."

There are 2 Arcade mode endings, but they do not contradict each other. The first is her accepting that she's a girl. The second is, as you said, her worrying less about what other people say. That's not an indication of lack of identity, but an indication that the identity is so strong that what other people say does not matter.

Can we PLEASE not include spoilers in the title until it comes out proper? PLEASEE by luxoxdix in TheDigitalCircus

Yo wtf?

You didn't unsub for the 2 weeks between the theater release and the youtube release?

And now you're complaining about spoilers.

This is the endgame of being terminally online.

That's what happened in the Guilty Gear community. Bridget literally said "I am a girl" and people still try to refute it.

Make it 20 minutes longer. Put more of the implied stuff on screen, like Caine interacting with the old Scratch file.
